I got off work at 11 o’clock. When I left the restaurant that I worked at, I took a detour and stopped at a 24-hour supermarket to buy a few vegetables and meats to bring to the Zhao residence.
In the dead of the night, I carried two heavy plastic bags on the road to the Zhao residence.
This area was a strip of luxurious villas, and the distance between each house was very far. At nighttime, there simply wasn’t anyone walking on the street. It gave me a spooky feeling, and I’m the kind of person who isn’t afraid of anything except for “ghosts”. I heard that they tend to appear in places where there isn’t much human presence, so I hope I don’t have the luck to run into them.
After walking for almost an hour, I finally reached the Zhao residence. I hurriedly picked up my pace and rushed to the gate to press the doorbell.
As before, it was Zhao Yi Xuan who came to open the door. When he saw that I had come back, he seemed totally surprised, but he didn’t say anything. All he did was considerately take the heavy shopping bags from my hands.
“Is Zhao Yi Bo doing better?” I took the initiative and headed inside the house.
“He’s awake.” Zhao Yi Xuan closed the door, restarted the security system, and followed behind me into the house.
Inside the room, Zhao Yi Bo was presently sitting up in bed and drinking the porridge that I had boiled earlier. Even though he looked very weak, he was already much better than when I left him. I finally felt relieved.
“Teacher, it must have been a ha.s.sle to make a trip here so late. I’m terribly sorry for inconveniencing you.” When he saw me arrive, he made a humble greeting.
Ah… this child really makes my heartstrings ache.
“Are you feeling better? Did the porridge taste alright?”
“I’m doing a lot better. Thank you for the porridge, it tasted very good.”
I extended my hand to feel his forehead, and confirmed that it wasn’t hot anymore. Then I looked at the shrimp porridge in his hands and noticed that it was already cold. The fishy odor was a little strong too. I was surprised that he was even able to say it tasted good. Besides, how can a sick person eat cold food? That’s simply not taking good care of himself.
I took the bowl from his hands and placed it on the bedside cabinet.
I turned my head to ask Zhao Yi Xuan, who had followed me into the room, “Did you eat dinner?”
Zhao Yi Xuan shook his head.
These two kids couldn’t take care of themselves. If I hadn’t come here tonight, I’m afraid one of them intended to go hungry, while the other intended to drink cold porridge and get diarrhea the next day.
“I’m going to go cook something. You two can wait a little bit for now.”
I quickly rushed into the kitchen and prepared four dishes and a soup. It was only thanks to the fact that my mom was a chef that I had skilled hands like these.
Since there was too much food, and there was no way I could carry it all to the bedroom, I could only go upstairs to call them down to the dining room to eat.
Zhao Yi Bo was still very weak and needed Zhao Yi Xuan’s support in order to walk to the dining room. When I saw that he was planning to only wear a thin pair of pajamas out of his bedroom, I hurriedly grabbed a small blanket from his bed. Standing on my tiptoes, I draped it over him.
He turned his head to look back at me, and in that moment he had a profound expression on his face that one wouldn’t expect from a child. However, it was only for an instant, and very quickly that look disappeared. I almost felt as if I had only imagined it.
After finis.h.i.+ng dinner, Zhao Yi Xuan helped send Zhao Yi Bo back to his room, and I stayed in the kitchen to clean up all the used dishes and bowls. Even though I was also very tired, due to my slight obsession with cleanliness, I simply couldn’t leave dirty dishes lying around without was.h.i.+ng them.
My G.o.d, I can’t believe I’m such a natural maid…
“Is there anything I can help with?”
I looked back and saw Zhao Yi Xuan standing behind me.
“How is Zhao Yi Bo? Sleeping?”
“Mm.”
“I’m almost done putting everything away. Why don’t you go to bed too? These past few days, I doubt you rested well, and you don’t look all that great yourself. Tonight I’ll stay over to take care of Zhao Yi Bo, so you don’t have to worry.”
He also appeared very haggard, and I heard that twins often share a very powerful connection. When one of them is sick, the other will also begin to feel ill. Was this what he was experiencing right now?
He didn’t say anything, and he only quietly waited at the entrance of the kitchen for me to finish. Then he followed me upstairs.
His room was right next door to Zhao Yi Bo’s room. However, he still came with me into Zhao Yi Bo’s room and sat down in the chair next to the bed. I could tell that he simply didn’t want to rest.
So stubborn!
I walked to his side and extended a hand to tug on his arm.
“Hurry up and go to bed. You must be tired.”
“I want to sleep here.” He insisted.
“No! There is only one bed here, and you can’t sleep on the same bed as him; he’ll get you sick. And you also can’t sleep on the chair or the floor, or else you’ll get a cold.” I also did not back down. If he also keeled over, I’d be busy to death.
We stared at each other for a while. When he saw my strict manner, he gave up and returned to his own room.
Before he went back, he even went out of his way to find a very thick quilt for me.
Hehe~~ Even though he’s always so quiet, he’s still a really considerate and good child.
I stayed like this at the Zhao residence and took care of them for three days. It wasn’t until Zhao Yi Bo recovered his health completely that I finally returned to my little apartment.
After experiencing these three days with them, I had fully come to see them as my little brothers, and I was determined to do my utmost to take care of them until they came of age.
