A tall, ebony vampire approached. On instinct, I almost backed away. His muscular chest and broad shoulders filled out his T-s.h.i.+rt, and his legs were covered in black jeans. I caught his eyes, a reddish flare under dark brown.

"As you wish, my lady." His dark voice completed his demeanour. I'd have to make sure not to get on his bad side.

"Good. Now that we have the team set, we need to get you ready for the scene. A handsome gay vampire can't possibly go into a club looking like that." Aurora motioned for her butler. "Pablo, see Malachi and Terrell to the dressing room. I'm thinking something dark, yet playful."

Black see-through mesh allowed the cool air to bite at my naked skin. Tight leather pants hugged my hips. I struggled with the zipper until it was snug around my package and a thick silver chain around my neck completed the ensemble.

Seriously, is it goth night at the club?

"Absolutely gorgeous." Aurora winked, a smirk planted on her blood-red lips. She splayed her fingers along my chest and walked in a complete circle around me, then gripped my crotch and travelled around my side to give me a playful smack on the a.s.s. "Your hair."*

48.

She ran her fingers through the back of my hair, spiking and ruffling it to look messy.

"Perfect."

Terrell stepped into of the room and Aurora immediately turned her attention to him.

She fixed his red silk s.h.i.+rt, letting it hang unb.u.t.toned to reveal his sculpted abs. He'd been given comfortable black jeans. Why should I have to wear the leather?

"The limo is waiting for you out front. Malachi"-her eyes flashed red-"I trust you have fed and are ready to go?"

I nodded. It wasn't quite the truth. Sure, I had fed-off a stinky pouch of lukewarm blood. What the h.e.l.l was that c.r.a.p anyway? There was no way in h.e.l.l that could sustain me.

Maybe I should take another pouch, just to be sure?

"I'm ready." I tried to keep my thoughts silent so she didn't hear them. But my fangs ached for more.

Terrell led the way downstairs and past the dining room. The company was still around the table, just like they'd been when we'd left. Dante was hidden in the corner of the room.

His lover had him pressed against the wall, their lips meshed together. When they broke off, he looked at me with l.u.s.tful, unnatural red eyes.

I went numb from head to toe. There was nothing between us anyway. Right? But no matter how much I tried not to concern myself with seeing him in the arms of another, I couldn't help but tighten my jaw and clench my fist. I brushed a stray hair behind my ear and focused on the floor.

Go ahead, see if I care.

I inhaled a fresh breath of night air as I stepped out into the moonlight. Dark clouds brewed in the distance, the flashes of lightning immediately snapped me out of my funk. The black limo sat out in the drive, ready for us. I was anxious to go out there.

"I'll be waiting for your successful return, Malachi." Aurora stopped in the doorway.

"You won't be coming with us?"

She shook her head. "Not this time around. There is something I must see to here."

Terrell folded his arm around mine, escorting me down the steps. "Let's go."

Gooseb.u.mps formed on my arms at his dark, commanding voice.

Pablo welcomed us at the pa.s.senger's side door. I slid in and stared out of the window at the city lights visible from the mansion. I wondered how many days it had been since my last hunt. The city seemed so big from this angle-maybe it was the limo?*

49.

"Keep your hunger at bay, young one," Terrell commanded, and I immediately felt a tingle rise in my throat. "I know you lie to the mistress."

"I do not." I couldn't look at him.

"Humph, your ignorance will bring your death."

"I lived without a coven for eight years. Ignorance makes the man."

The mechanical hum of the dividing window going down interrupted our spat. Pablo c.o.c.ked his head and peeked inside as we sat at a red light. "To 42nd Avenue tonight, senores.

Si?"

"Yes, Pablo. Thank you," Terrell said, then turned his attention back to me. "I will follow you into the club, but that's all. It's your responsibility to obtain this guy."

"Should I bring him out to the limo?"

Terrell nodded. "We'll park in the back. If he's reported missing, we might have to cover our a.s.ses, so make sure no one sees you leave with him."*

Chapter Seven.

Walk the Tightwire Make sure no one sees me? An extremely difficult task in this d.a.m.n crowd. People shuffled past me with barely any room between bodies. It was hard to breathe in the hot, cramped s.p.a.ce next to the entrance. A hand squeezed my a.s.s.

h.e.l.l, I'm not even past the door yet!

Inside, it wasn't much better. Once I got past the bouncer and stepped into the club, a barrage of neon lights. .h.i.t my sensitive eyes. I squinted and shoved past the hordes lined up at the bar. Terrell shuffled past me and was immediately lost in the crowd.

I couldn't understand why the crowd had gathered at the bar until I looked up and spotted the glistening body of a dancer on the counter. He shook his hips in his white Calvin Klein's, welcoming the dollar or two that onlookers stuffed into his shorts. My mouth watered, fangs aching. Wow, I'd be a lucky b.a.s.t.a.r.d if that was our man.

An unknown hand cupped my crotch, and I jerked my hips against the tight leather, needing release right then.

"h.e.l.lo, hotness," a voice said.

It took a second to realise that I was frozen like ice among the swarm of people. The man in front of me was a perfect match for our catch tonight. A cleanly shaven head, large diamond studs in both ears and the silver ring in his lip. His forehead barely came up to my chin-his height was something the picture hadn't told me.

There's no way it's this easy.

"Are you one of them?" the man whispered.

"Them? Who's them?"

He slid his hand up my stomach, tickling my skin underneath the mesh. "Night stalker."

Listening to the beat of the music and imagining it was the beat of his heart, I fought back the pain soaring through my fangs. I narrowed my eyes. "Could be. What's your name?"*

51.

The man gripped the fabric of my s.h.i.+rt and pulled me close. "Uh-uh." His warm breath on my lips sent my mind into a whirlwind of need. Need to bite, need to kiss... f.u.c.k, I was getting hard. "Names don't matter here, baby. Have you come for me?"

"Names do matter here, honey. I'm..." I had to think fast. Should I tell him my real name?

"Merrick." d.a.m.n, why had I said that?

He tipped his head. "Nice to meet you, Merrick. I'm Marco."

"Well, Marco. I do believe you've found your stalker." I pressed my lips to his, fighting the need to pull back and feed. His lips warmed me. A tremor pa.s.sed through my limbs.

I closed my eyes tight for a brief second. When I opened them, he had stepped away.

"Gimme a sec and we'll get out of here."

Marco stepped back to the dancer and, with a dollar in his hand, he pulled on his briefs.

I stood behind him, wiping my lips, wis.h.i.+ng there was blood so I could taste even the slightest bit of satisfaction. Instead, I tasted alcohol from the man's kiss.

Dante was right after all-this is h.e.l.lish.

The dancer leaned in to take Marco's dollar, then tucked it into the waistband of his Calvin's.

Marco turned back and grabbed hold of my s.h.i.+rt again. "Let's go, baby."

He stepped back, prepared to exit through the front when I froze.

"Wait, where's the back door?" I asked.

His eyes lit up in interest before he turned and pulled me by my s.h.i.+rt through a hallway that read 'employees only'.

We walked past the crowd and into the empty, dark hallway. Terrell was nowhere in sight.

"I've been expecting someone all night. G.o.d, I didn't expect them to send someone like you," Marco said as we walked deeper into the darkness. "Is there anything you require first? I can suck your d.i.c.k, if you'd like. I'm the best. So I'm told."

I chuckled with the intention of saying yes. "No, that's not necessary."

"Mmm, b.u.mmer."

The street lights seeped through from outside creating a glowing square around the back door. I knew we were close. Just a few more steps-I had to refrain for just a few more.

He pushed on the door, and I breathed in the refres.h.i.+ng cool air.*

52.

I looked out into the alley, expecting the limo to be there right where we had parked it, but it was nowhere in sight.

Marco pulled me close to the wall, b.u.mping into the side of the building. I splayed my fingers on the cold brick to prevent from getting any closer.

"Kiss me, night stalker."

A warm electric current streamed down my limbs. How could I refuse such an offer?

No one was in sight-I'd left Terrell back in the crowd, and Pablo had taken off in the limo. I sucked on my lip, knowing d.a.m.n well I wasn't allowed to bite him.

Marco slid his hands up my s.h.i.+rt. "Well, what are you waiting for?"

I pressed my thigh between his legs. His hard c.o.c.k thumped against the confines of his blue stonewashed jeans. Oh, h.e.l.l with it. I brushed my lips against his, tasting the bitter aroma of vodka. I closed my eyes and lapped at his lower lip. He darted his tongue between my lips and our mouths locked together in a needy embrace.

The heat soared in my face. My cheeks flushed. The tight leather pants held back the painful pulse of my hard shaft.

He explored the taut lines of my chest. My shoulders tensed as he flicked at a hardened nipple. Then, he tickled my sides as his hands snaked towards the leather. He wrenched at my pants, then wrapped his fingers around my c.o.c.k and began to stroke, sending s.h.i.+vers up my spine.

I kissed his cheek, lapping over his heated skin. His whispered moans buried themselves inside my heavily beating heart. My fangs sc.r.a.ped flesh and he whimpered, needy.

All of the rules went right out of the f.u.c.king window. I could feel his heartbeat underneath my lips. My c.o.c.k was painfully hard from his ministrations. A hiss flowed from between my fangs.

"Malachi!" Terrell's voice echoed in my numb ears.

I angled my sight towards the door. A flash of white light blinded me. I shook my head and looked back at the man. He stood still, eyes wide for a second before curving into the brick and falling to his side. A small dart stuck out from his neck.
