What name?

‘I promise,’ Gu Jiao Wu said.

Qiao Tan Yuan turned on the tap, and checked the water temperature. She turned around, Gu Jiao Wu was naked and she coughed awkwardly.

‘You can shower,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

Every time Qiao Tan Yuan saw Gu Jiao Wu’s naked body, she would blush. She didn’t think she would get used to seeing him naked.

Gu Jiao Wu stepped into the shower, Qiao Tan Yuan held the shower cord and carefully washed his body. Her heart ached every time she saw the scar on his chest, and she knew she would always love him.

Gu Jiao Wu savored the sensation of Qiao Tan Yuan softly scrubbing his back, and ma.s.saging his soapy head.

Gu Jiao Wu behaved during the half an hour it took Qiao Tan Yuan to help him shower.

Qiao Tan Yuan was surprised Gu Jiao Wu listened to her. She turned off the tap, and reached for a towel. But he carried her into the bath tub.

‘Ah…’ Qiao Tan Yuan cried out softly.

Gu Jiao Wu turned on the bath tap, and warm water quickly filled the tub. Qiao Tan Yuan tried to boost herself out of the tub, but her hands were slippery and she fell onto his lap.

‘Gu Jiao Wu, you promised,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

‘I did keep my promise,’ Gu Jiao Wu said. ‘I let you help me shower. Now I want to help you relax.’

Gu Jiao Wu turned Qiao Tan Yuan around to face him. He kissed her lips, and spread her legs. He liked having her help him shower, but he liked helping her relax more.

After the water turned cold, Gu Jiao Wu carried Qiao Tan Yuan to the bed.

‘Tan Yuan, do you have any energy left?’ Gu Jiao Wu asked innocently.

Gu Jiao Wu dried Qiao Tan Yuan and himself on the bed.

‘Tan Yuan, your stamina is truly weak,’ Gu Jiao Wu teased.

Qiao Tan Yuan acted like she couldn’t hear Gu Jiao Wu. He went to get the hair dryer then he blow dried her hair.

Later Gu Jiao Wu laid next to Qiao Tan Yuan on the bed. It was a habit for him to wrap an arm around her waist, and hug her to sleep.

‘Gu Jiao Wu, aren’t you satisfied yet?’ Qiao Tan Yuan asked.

‘What are you saying?’ Gu Jiao Wu asked. ‘I only want to hug you and sleep.’

‘You… before you didn’t keep your promise,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

‘Are you saying you won’t relaxed before?’ Gu Jiao Wu asked.

‘Can you say you didn’t bully me before?’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

‘I didn’t,’ Gu Jiao Wu said. He kissed Qiao Tan Yuan’s lips and throat. ‘If this is bullying you then I want to bully you more.’

Qiao Tan Yuan turned around, Gu Jiao Wu hugged her from behind and stroked her hair.

‘You should sleep,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said and closed her eyes.

The following morning, Gu Jiao Wu woke up but he didn’t see Qiao Tan Yuan next to him in bed. He got out of bed, dressed and walked to the nursery. Xiao Bao was lying on a baby mat on the floor, and Qiao Tan Yuan put a plush rabbit in Xiao Bao’s small hands, and Xiao Bao threw the it on the floor.

‘Xiao Bao, look at the baby rabbit,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

Xiao Bao spoke baby gibberish, and stretched her small arms toward the rabbit.

Qiao Tan Yuan held the rabbit above Xiao Bao’s hands.

‘Mummy’s going to throw the baby rabbit away since Xiao Bao didn’t want the baby rabbit,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

More gibberish came out of Xiao Bao’s mouth, and she held her small hands in the air.

Gu Jiao Wu saw Xiao Bao was about to cry so he grabbed the rabbit from Qiao Tan Yuan’s hands, and he put it in Xiao Bao’s hands.

‘Xiao Bao, daddy gave the baby rabbit to you,’ Gu Jiao Wu said.

Xiao Bao threw the rabbit on the floor again and she cried.

Gu Jiao Wu picked up the rabbit, and he waved it above Xiao Bao’s hands.

‘Xiao Bao, look, daddy’s giving you the baby rabbit,’ Gu Jiao Wu coaxed.

Xiao Bao ignored Gu Jiao Wu and she cried louder.

Qiao Tan Yuan sighed helplessly. She grabbed the rabbit form Gu Jiao Wu’s hands, and she put it in Xiao Bao’s hands.

‘Xiao Bao, mummy gave you the baby rabbit,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said. ‘Don’t cry anymore.’

Xiao Bao threw the rabbit on the floor again. She stretched her small hands toward Qiao Tan Yuan, and Qiao Tan Yuan carried Xiao Bao. Xiao Bao buried her head in Qiao Tan Yuan’s chest.

‘Xiao Bao, let daddy hold you,’ Gu Jiao Wu said.

Xiao Bao clutched Qiao Tan Yuan’s s.h.i.+rt, and she cried.

‘Jiao Wu, I think Xiao Bao’s hungry,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said. ‘Aunty is making baby food for Xiao Bao downstairs. I’ll take Xiao Bao downstairs to eat.’

Gu Jiao Wu nodded. He wanted to try holding Xiao Bao again after breakfast. When he followed Qiao Tan Yuan downstairs, he stroked Xiao Bao’s cheek, and Xiao Bao turned her head away from his hand. He sighed, he didn’t think he had a scary face. His nephews loved playing with him, but Xiao Bao didn’t want to be close to him.

After breakfast, Qiao Tan Yuan put Xiao Bao in a stroller and wheeled Xiao Bao in the garden to see flower blossoms. Gu Jiao Wu walked beside the stroller, but Xiao Bao ignored him.

Qiao Tan Yuan crouched in front of the stroller, and stroked Xiao Bao’s cheek.

‘Xiao Bao, look, this is your daddy,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

Xiao Bao continued to ignore Gu Jiao Wu.

‘Jiao Wu, don’t worry,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said. ‘If you spend more time with Xiao Bao, she’ll understand you’re her daddy.’

‘Um,’ Gu Jiao Wu said. ‘We haven’t thought of a name for Xiao Bao. We can’t call our daughter by her nickname forever.’

‘I want to give Xiao Bao a Danish name,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

Gu Jiao Wu frowned. He didn’t want to think about Qiao Tan Yuan almost leaving him to go to Denmark with Xiao Bao. He looked at Xiao Bao for a while. He thought Xiao Bao was a gift from heaven, and he wished Xiao Bao would listen to him.

‘Tan Yuan, what do you think about Ting Ding?’ Gu Jiao Wu asked. ‘Ting for a good listener, and Ding for heaven. Gu Ting Ding sounds like a good name for our daughter.’

‘Um, Ting Ding,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said.

‘Gu Ting Ding,’ Gu Jiao Wu called and smiled at Gu Ting Ding. ‘Gu Ting Ding, do you like your name?’

‘Wait,’ Qiao Tan Yuan said. ‘Jiao Wu, who said Ting Ding’s family name is Gu? Our daughter’s name is Qiao Ting Ding.’
