Chapter 29 – Leaving Town (Start)

This year’s Briar forest was awfully lively. Even though it was already a bitterly cold season. Even if the snow within the forest was quite deep, that the townsfolk no longer rashly entered. Still, with the arrival of a group of Adventurers, the forest was once again recovered with bustling activities, just like the other seasons. As a result, Ricca town that was situated outside the forest, had once more in this winter, sparked with vitality.

On account of the Adventurers arriving, Rumont, the one the Tax Officer was constantly making things difficult for, had once again had a new opportunity to get rich. Relying on his healing spells becoming more proficient, his business too became increasingly better.

An amiable price as well as a reasonable Druid treatment. Way better when compared with the Priests at the Shrine; at the least, it wasn’t as uncomfortable.

However, even though Tax Officer Barcas didn’t dare make things difficult for Rumont as to offend the numerous Adventurers. He still made a big deal out of the taxes, demanding a third of the income from the very start. Later, in the end, he actually self-smuggedly brought out the so-called taxation regulations, pointing out that what Rumont was doing was violating the law. Although it wasn’t a heavy punishment, but, he needed to pay an even higher tax.

Every time he received 5 silver coins per treatment, in accordance with his so-called new regulation, he unexpectedly needed to pay as much as 4 coins.

This time, it even let the always patiently bearing on the outside Rumont, become quite angry. Treatments expended an enormous amount of strength and spirit; it’s not like there wasn’t a price, how could it be like that?

“Rumont, come quick! “ as he sat down within his own room, pondering over how to resolve the current crisis, a person suddenly shouted for him.

“Ah, coming. “ Rumont promptly answered.

While still above the staircase, a fresh scent of blood a.s.saulted his nose. Rumont at once descended the steps down below, sure enough, it was exactly as he thought. Several critically injured, was currently being placed in the middle of the inn.

“Rumont, they encountered some fierce monsters and received some serious injuries, quickly come have a look! “ last time, Mercenary Corps Captain Howard introduced Captain Burke, who as soon as he saw him come downstairs, straightway yelled to.

“How many were injured this time? “ Rumont tensed up as he sighted the wounds on those injured.

If it was said, that the previously treated, was still limited at treating injuries, then this time, the feeling would be about saving quite a few human lives.

The total amount of injured were five, with four of them still being okay, even if they were in a critical condition. But, for a Rank 1 Druid’s spell of Mending, it was still capable of settling.

However, the person that was placed nearest the staircase by another on top of a large animal hide, their condition was too severe.

“Why didn’t you go to the Shrine? “ discussing about treatments, it was still the specialty of the Priest profession. Rumont wouldn’t deny this point, what’s more, even though Priest Dennis’ character wasn’t great, but he was a 29 years old Priest, his Priest level had reached that of Rank 4. A Priest wasn’t like a Druid, their healing spells were even more powerful. A Rank 4 Priest, was already better than a Druid, who needed to reach a Rank 5 or 6 to be able to utilize the minor injuries healing spell———the so-called minor injuries, was already enough to deal with the present situation.

“Rumont, the Priests at the Shrine, they’ve already used up their spells for today. Presently, their lives are up to you! “ because the wounded currently, was the squad members that followed him the longest, therefore Burke was completely anxious; shouting at Rumont when he saw Rumont was distressed.

“Alright, I’ll do my best. “ since it was like this, Rumont nodded his head. Arriving first in front of the most critically injured.

Once examined, his expression thereupon was unsightly. This person’s abdomen was completely obliterated by the monsters; a large gaping hole. Even though it was wrapped up in clean bandages, however, the blood was as before, drip by drop bleeding out.

As a Rank 1 Druid, not too large a wound could still be treated with the healing spells. However, with such a wide wound currently, he was helpless.

“Rumont, help out, he’s my friend’s younger brother. If you can treat him well, I’ll pay you three times the silver coins. “ even though it was understood that his kind of heavy injury was quite difficult for Rumont, however, at this very moment, he could only hope and expect a miracle to occur.

After all, besides the Priests, the only one at this present time that could use a healing spell somewhat well, was Rumont. As for those that adventured into the forest, the Adventurers that obtained benefits, was always hostile towards Druid Jeff; they had never thought about it———not taking actions against them, was already good enough.

Rumont nodded, he hurriedly went to prepare needles and threads as well as strong liquor for disinfection.

Burke actually understood the use of strong alcohol. Last time his members were injured, it was due to the use of strong liquor, that allowed the wounds to heal even faster. But, what was the use of needles and threads?

This world’s treatments remained at the use of divine spells to heal. The a.s.sistance of medicinal herbs was due to the results being effective. The surgical skills of Earth, naturally wouldn’t have been touched. The set of treatment methods back on Earth, was due to the circ.u.mstances of lacking divine spells. The people inside, wouldn’t have known about it. Neither would those people have comprehended it.

However, on account of having confidence in Rumont, Burke still moved quickly to prepare those items. In fact, these items, were available inside of Mort’s Inn; they spent some money to purchase, to which the Mort couple were naturally willing to.

This is also, for whatever reason that the townsfolk alienated Rumont, that the Mort couple continued to allow Rumont to live here.

Possessing empathy, as well as interests. On account of Rumont staying here, as a result, Adventurers were even more concentrated here, furthermore, on the legal supplying aspect, it was also selling exceptionally pleasantly.

If it wasn’t because of this reason, those wounded people that were inside the inn making a complete mess everyday, the Mort couple wouldn’t have put up with it, no matter how much more kind-hearted they were.

The underwent surgery was a major success. Even though Rumont never learnt anything medical, yet, the superb medicines of this world were quite effective. Therefore, from the shocking scene of seeing the use of threads and needles to close the wound up, he then unexpectedly afterwards, once again spread a thin layer of of ointment over the wound. The ointment he used this time, was the best. All in all, such a heavy injury, couldn’t be too careful.

After finis.h.i.+ng the smearing, Rumont extended his arm; the palm at once had a scene of a dull green glow. The green light dispersed in a flash. Pa.s.sing a few days, hopefully the terrifying wound will heal over.

Wiping away the sweat on his head, Rumont said: “okay, no alcohol, rest for 10 days, and it’ll be basically close over. “

“It’s succeeded? “ Burke viewed dumbly.

He was frightened as he currently recalled the movements of the muscles Rumont just deftly sewed. However, evidently seeing that the injured was breathing stably, Burke immediately grabbed Rumont’s hand, expressed his grat.i.tude repeatedly.

Rumont’s face turned red, busily declining, he also made the other people prepare some more strong liquor. Afterwards, similar to last time, dealt with the injuries of the few others.

Finished being occupied, Rumont couldn’t conceal his exhausted face again. In fact, the main thing was that it was his first time st.i.tching a wound; something he couldn’t get used to. However, the others didn’t know that. Burke saw that for the sake of toiling away at the treatment, even more than the grat.i.tude on his face, was dead-set on leaving behind 50 silver coins, before leading the others away.

Rumont thought it over, handing over 40 silvers coins to Mister Mort, letting him help pay his taxes. This sum of money, sooner or later needed to be paid back with interest. However, the current moment wasn’t right yet.

“Rumont, I’ve heard that you unexpectedly brought back to life a person that had his chest opened up by a monster? “ the news in the small town had always circulated lightning fast. Not even half a day’s work, practically everyone in town knew about Rumont; this Rank 1 Druid’s miraculous magic.

As for Mercenary Captain Howard, who eventually arrived at the inn, teased Rumont for a while before telling him an important information.

“However, 50 silver coins, you unexpectedly needed to hand 40 over, this is too much. How about, you go the Adventurer’s Guild to record it officially? Relying on your current abilities, your future businesses will surely be good, it’s not good as you currently are. “ the Mercenary Captain Howard laughed a hehe.

From what he said, Rumont understood everything he did up to now; the treatment business, that towards one lacking a profession, a higher tax was indeed demanding. However, if he joined an organization like the Adventurer’s Guild, then it’d be completely different. This time, the treatment was considered reasonable and legitimate. The Tax Officer had no whatsoever excuse to levy a high tax against him. As for tomorrow, it was possible he would need to pay 10 percent in tax of the income.

Rumont thanked the Mercenary Captain Howard, who pa.s.sed onto him the location of the Adventurer’s Guild in a place not too far away from Ricca; as well as the information of Banner’s caravan needing to head towards that location.

When Rumont ran into Banner, he mentioned the need to follow along together towards the small city of Appleseed. Even though it was due to the Tax Officer Barcas that caused Banner and Rumont drifted apart a bit. However, Rumont’s recent abrupt displayal of his gifted treatments, allowed him still to think that it wasn’t necessary to allow each other’s relations.h.i.+p to be too strained. Even more so, Rumont wanted to go with them conveniently on the road, it also wasn’t a too awkward matter. Therefore, Banner considered it slightly, and unreservedly accepted.

The bustling days pa.s.sed over quickly as always. Quite soon, it was time for Banner’s caravan to set off.

Rumont had washed up first thing in the morning, eaten breakfast and awaited inside of Mort’s Inn.

“Rumont, please excuse me for coming late, there was too many goods. “ a good half of the day after, Merchant Banner currently appeared inside the inn, leading the fleet.

“So many goods? “ Even though he knew Banner’s business wasn’t limited, however, Rumont still didn’t expect it as he saw over 10 large carriages outside.

“Winter has arrived right? The clothes and foodstuffs stocked by the small city isn’t enough. We won’t be merely earning some money. “ Banner politely said, expressing with a bit of pride.

Rumont continued on with a few encouraging words. At once, the recent awkward and estranged kind of atmosphere, immediately cleared up between him and the traders; disappearing without a trace. Almost seeming as if nothing had ever taken place.

The weather today was great. Beautiful suns.h.i.+ne and winds. The merchandise of the caravans were pulled by a kind of animal similar to that of Earth’s animals of burdens. The carriages were quite s.p.a.cious, therefore, Rumont was quite fortunate to not have experienced the pains of walking on foot.

Sitting on the carriage in the open, Rumont let out a breathe, his emotions were utterly high. Not only because of the goal this time, it was also because it was ever since he arrived on this world, his first time in going to such a far place.

Anyone would also be curious. Rumont was no exception. He compellingly thought about what the outside world would be like.

The carriages carried on in a neither fast nor slow pace. Rumont chatted away the day with people of the caravan that he sat with and those he didn’t. These were extensively traveled people, although deficient in knowledge, yet, their experiences were vastly greater than anyone within the small town. They had been to many cities, and met many a people; he conversed with them all. Letting Rumont understand more or less the affairs outside. As far as he believed, this wasn’t something that could be found recorded; it definitely had a use in the future.

They spoke and laughed as they traveled, never tiring. A day’s worth of time had pa.s.sed. In the end, when the city gates and walls appeared in front, it wasn’t as magnificent when compared to the ones back on Earth, yet way more lofty when compared with Ricca town’s best constructions. Rumont knew, they had arrived.
