Chapter 47: Pa.s.sion — I became drunk on you.
♕
As if bewitched by an evil spirit, Ji Zhe Yan looked at Ye Zhen Zhen with an expression she had never seen before, his eyes half-hidden by his bangs and s.h.i.+ning fantastically.
He smirked, his black eyes gradually curving into smiles as well. "Didn't you buy this to wear for me?"
His voice held a flirtatious tone that Ye Zhen Zhen had never heard from him before.
Ji Zhe Yan seemed as if he had suddenly switched personalities, becoming unfamiliar and yet s.e.xy.
Ye Zhen Zhen had no choice but to admit that she could not resist this version of Dr. Ji at all. When she had changed into the night clothes and stood in front of the sink, staring at herself in the mirror, she suddenly realized—shouldn't she be the one tempting Dr. Ji? How come the roles have completely reversed?
She unwillingly pursed her lips and tugged down the strap on her left shoulder, allowing it to slip down her arm. When she smugly opened the bathroom door, Ji Zhe Yan had already regained his calm expression. He was sitting at the table, drinking milk.
She immediately thought that this scene was like she was some merchandise being put on display.
Ji Zhe Yan rested the gla.s.s against his lip but didn't drink. He merely lifted his eyes to gaze at her. Three seconds pa.s.sed. He finally couldn't help but chuckle quietly. Although his voice was not very loud, his chest trembled visibly…he really found this quite funny.
Ye Zhen Zhen: "…"
Great, she realized, this person was deliberately playing with her.
Ye Zhen Zhen couldn't breathe, her cheeks flus.h.i.+ng a deep red. She finally understood why Ji Yuan wanted to bite him earlier, because now she wanted to bite him too.
"Ji Zhe Yan! I want to duel with you!" Ye Zhen Zhen roared, pouncing. Ji Zhe Yan promptly set down the gla.s.s and caught the person flying toward him.
His right arm wrapped around Ye Zhen Zhen's waist, and the exquisite texture beneath his hand caused Ji Zhe Yan's mind to brighten with joy. "What's going on? You can't wait?"
Ye Zhen Zhen: "…"
Ao! Here we go again! Dr. Ji, don't get into character so quickly!
Ji Zhe Yan had charmed and bedazzled Ye Zhen Zhen into completely forgetting her original intentions to bite him. Ji Zhe Yan embraced this stunned person and couldn't help laughing lightly. "Okay, I'll stop teasing you." He hugged Ye Zhen Zhen and asked softly, "Why did you buy this outfit?"
Ye Zhen Zhen wrinkled her nose and wrapped her arms around his waist. She looked up at him discontentedly. "Because Dr. Ji never wants to sleep together with me."
This reply caused Ji Zhe Yan to burst into laughter. He bopped Ye Zhen Zhen's nose and said somewhat helplessly, "You truly…"
The next words disappeared amidst a tangle of lips and tongue.
Ye Zhen Zhen had been kissed many times by Ji Zhe Yan, both extensive and chaste kisses, but she had never been kissed like this before——a pa.s.sionate, emotional French kiss.
Ye Zhen Zhen felt as if fireworks had gone off in her head. She even doubted that the person kissing her was Ji Zhe Yan.
Perhaps Dr. Ji's IQ really was far higher than her own, such that she would never be able to keep up with him during a kiss like this. Apart from receiving his intense offense, she had no energy to spare to reflect on anything else.
Only when a faint taste of copper began circulating during the battle did Ye Zhen Zhen slowly regain a bit of her consciousness. Ji Zhe Yan, however, had not the slightest intention of stopping, seemingly using this kiss to erase the sharp pain coming from her tongue.
Kissing continuously was a rigorous test of lung capacity; it was clear, however, that Ye Zhen Zhen's lungs could not endure this trial. Her consciousness began floating farther away. She felt as if she would become the first person in history to die from kissing.
Perhaps she could apply for a Guinness Record.
Ji Zhe Yan released her lips when he saw that Ye Zhen Zhen was on the verge of pa.s.sing out, pulling away from her slightly. The two of them violently gasped for air, Ye Zhen Zhen even tearing up.
Ji Zhe Yan bowed his head to kiss away the tears pooling at the corners of her eyes, his breathing unsteady as well. "Are you okay…"
Ye Zhen Zhen really wanted to say she could fight on for another five hundred years, but she could only gasp for air while staring up at Ji Zhe Yan.
She couldn't say a single word.
Ji Zhe Yan examined her very red face, the corners of his eyes still smiling. By now, Ye Zhen Zhen realized they had unknowingly moved to the bed already, and the b.u.t.tons of Ji Zhe Yan's top was already undone. The two of them stared at each other for a moment, and then Ye Zhen Zhen finally had the energy to say, "Dr. Ji…I bit you…where…"
Ji Zhe Yan looked down at her. Her night clothes were already messy and disorderly, her collar completely unable to conceal the scenery below. He did not intend on calling her attention to this, though. He smiled and replied, "Tongue."
Ye Zhen Zhen's brows twisted. "Painful?"
"No." Ji Zhe Yan gently rubbed her lips after he spoke.
Ye Zhen Zhen felt a bit ticklish and then began laughing. "Dr. Ji, did you become drunk on milk?" If he wasn't intoxicated, how come Dr. Ji was so pa.s.sionate?
Ji Zhe Yan raised his head, his eyes hazed over as he looked her in the eye. "I became drunk on you."
Ye Zhen Zhen's heart skipped a beat. So, as it turned out, her Dr. Ji could say such sweet-nothings. Her eyes gradually brightened, illuminating her entire face. "Then should we continue?"
With Ji Zhe Yan's body so close to hers, she could clearly sense something stirring in him.
Ji Zhe Yan's eyes darkened, his mood changing unpredictably. In the end, he sighed lightly and buried his head into the crook of Ye Zhen Zhen's neck. He whispered into her ear, "After you graduate…"
Ye Zhen Zhen suddenly froze and then clearly understood that Dr. Ji had been strongly attached to this notion since long ago.
So, it was her status as a student?
But…she was a university student, not a high school student! Nevermind the fact of where she was supposed to graduate from!
Ye Zhen Zhen sobbed and whimpered, "Dr. Ji, you obviously know that I can't graduate…"
Ji Zhe Yan stifled a laugh and hugged her tightly. "Nothing is absolute." He said this and then backtracked, "At least wait until you regain your memories."
Ye Zhen Zhen curled her lips. "It doesn't matter if I wait, but Dr. Ji, can you really wait?"
Ji Zhe Yan paused and then sent her a pretend look of reproach. "If you weren't indulging in flights of fancy all day long, would I be like this?"
Ye Zhen Zhen pursed her lips and sent him a look of disbelief. "Then hurry up, so serious."
Ji Zhe Yan smiled helplessly and embraced her tighter. "Let me hold you for a while longer…"
Ye Zhen Zhen eagerly hugged him back. She looped her arms around Ji Zhe Yan's waist, feeling him gradually calm down.
"Dr. Ji," she lightly called out.
"Mn?" Ji Zhe Yan's voice came from over her shoulder and sounded a bit m.u.f.fled.
"Your parents…do they dislike me?" With no name, no ident.i.ty, and an a.s.sociation to a homicide case…if she were his parents, she wouldn't want her son to find such a life partner.
Raising his head from the crook of her neck, Ji Zhe Yan looked at her in the eyes with earnestness. "There won't be anyone who dislikes you, and you need not dislike yourself either.."
"But…"
"No buts." Ji Zhe Yan interrupted her, his brows slightly furrowed. "Just remember, my love for you is enough."
Ye Zhen Zhen's heart felt as if it tightened explosively. This was the first time Ji Zhe Yan told her he loved her. When he had confessed, he had not said such a line.
"Dr. Ji…" Ye Zhen Zhen felt as if she was about to cry. She tried her best to choke back her tears. She looked at Ji Zhe Yan and said, "I also love you the most."
Ji Zhe Yan's eyes flashed. He kissed her forehead lightly. "I know…" He laid down beside Ye Zhen Zhen, her body tucked into his. For a moment, neither spoke.
In the end, Ye Zhen Zhen couldn't hold on. "Dr. Ji, you're acting is so good. How come you didn't become an actor?"
Ji Zhe Yan: "…"
He decided to ignore the faint sarcasm in her eyes. "Consider having a mentally r.e.t.a.r.ded Film Emperor at home; don't you think actors will walk down roads toward this end?"
Ye Zhen Zhen: "…"
Papa Ji was truly…being unjustly ridiculed constantly.
"Actually, you went into medicine in order to cure your father?" Ye Zhen Zhen looked at Ji Zhe Yan with an 'I see you, don't try to object' expression.
Ji Zhe Yan fell silent. Although the very beginning was like this, he later realized…that it was better to give up on finding a cure early on. Therefore, he hadn't gone into psychiatry.
"If Dr. Ji was a celebrity, you would definitely be very popular." Ye Zhen Zhen fantasized Ji Zhe Yan entering the show business. "But that would mean I would have to fight more people for you. Really, it's better for you to be a doctor."
Recalling that model called A'yao and how she was able to chase after Emperor Mo, she would certainly have to cross five pa.s.ses and slay six generals. Her hands would be dyed red with blood, truly…sinful.
Ji Zhe Yan stopped laughing at her appearance and simply gazed at her avidly without saying a word.
"Ah, right, Dr. Ji, you previously were in a commercial!" Ye Zhen Zhen seemed to recall something, her voice suddenly increasing in volume.
Ji Zhe Yan's brows suddenly furrowed. "When did I shoot a commercial?"
"Haha, don't think of tricking me. I saw; it's on that video ca.s.sette, right?" Ye Zhen Zhen grinned. "I heard it was shot when you were six? That bare bottom crawling across the floor was yours, hahahaha!"
Ji Zhe Yan waited for her to laugh a bit more before smirking slightly. "Who did you hear it from?"
"A Mr. Anderson who does not wish to be named."
Alright.
"Where did you find the video ca.s.sette?"
"Also found by a Mr. Anderson who does not wish to be named."
Ji Zhe Yan sighed deeply. It seemed like he needed to talk to his father's principle doctor and draw up a treatment plan with him.
He thoughtfully glanced at Ye Zhen Zhen with her curved smile and brows. He softly called out, "Zhen Zhen."
"Mn?" Ye Zhen Zhen looked up at him.
He smiled, so tenderly that Ye Zhen Zhen's heart became bewitched. "Tonight, you're sleeping by yourself." He abruptly turned over and left the bed once he finished speaking, quickly leaving for his own room.
Ye Zhen Zhen: "…"
Wait a minute! She, she could explain!

Chapter 48: Investigation — I'm pulling a snake from its hole.
♕
Several days later, Ji Zhe Yan was still sleeping in his own bedroom like before. This caused Ye Zhen Zhen a lot of grief. She couldn't help but inwardly sigh as she left the college campus. Dr. Ji hadn't come to pick her up, so petty.
She only saw his bare bottom as he crawled across the ground!
What was worth seeing of a six month old baby? Although they were cute, she really wanted to see 'little' Dr. Ji.
"Ye Zhen Zhen, you must have the final design finished by next month." Gan Run Yang's voice, neither cold nor warm, pulled Ye Zhen Zhen away from her train of thought. She nodded and made a sound of agreement.
This time, the compet.i.tion began in the middle of September and continued till the middle of October. Once it began, there wouldn't be much time to make clothes, so teams needed to work more during the summer. As for the final wedding dress, it was also the most complicated of the three submissions. Making it would also take up the most time.
Naturally, this was based on the a.s.sumption that they would enter the finals.
The group separated ways at the school entrance. Ye Zhen Zhen had not walked far though before she was called to a stop. "Zhen Zhen."
Ye Zhen Zhen lifted her gaze and frowned slightly. Say, it seemed like she had not seen Qin Kong for a very long time.
Qin Kong was still driving that eye-catching orange-yellow Ferrari. He scratched his curly hair and smiled at Ye Zhen Zhen. "Zhen Zhen, if you're free, let's go eat together?"
Ye Zhen Zhen stood there and stared at him for a moment before stepping forward. "Mr. Qin, you should know that I am not Ye Zhen Zhen."
Qin Kong blinked, his eyes flas.h.i.+ng quickly. "What does who you are have anything to do with this? I simply want to treat you, that's all."
Ye Zhen Zhen's eyes s.h.i.+fted. She was not Ye Zhen Zhen, so Qin Kong would not get any benefits from her. So why was he still approaching her?
She really had a poor impression of this guy, especially since he might be the one who attacked her. Ye Zhen Zhen glanced at him and politely rejected the offer. "I'm sorry, Mr. Qin, I have things to take care of. I cannot accompany you for a meal."
Qin Kong still tried to persuade her, but Ye Zhen Zhen quickly flagged down a taxi and sped away. Qin Kong watched the taxi drive into the distance, his lips thinning.
"Young Master Qin, it truly is not attractive to pester." Zuo Yi suddenly walked up from the side. He was not wearing a police uniform, and a lit cigarette was casually held in his mouth. He eyed Qin Kong with half-lidded eyes.
Zuo Yi's sudden appearance here really surprised Qin Kong, but he simply smiled and turned with the intent of entering his car.
"Wait a minute." Zuo Yi stopped and held down the car door, his smile not changing even the slightest. "There is a little matter I want to ask Mr. Qin to come help the police investigate at the station."
Qin Kong frowned before loosening his grip on the car door and turning to face Zuo Yi behind him. "Good sir, you need evidence before arresting someone."
The corners of Zuo Yi's mouth rose into a harmless smile. "I did not say I was arresting you. I'm merely asking you to help with an investigation."
"Since it's a request for a.s.sistance, I think I have the right to refuse, no?"
Zuo Yi's smile curved a bit more. Because he had the advantage in height, he seemed to tower over the other. "I believe it is better for you to not refuse."
Qin Kong's eyes darkened, brows furrowing as he remained silent.
♕
Within the interrogation room, Zuo Yi placed the photo taken from the surveillance tapes on the table in front of Qin Kong. "Mr. Kong, are you this person?"
Qin Kong glanced down at the photo and denied. "No."
"Oh." Zuo Yi nodded, a smile on his face as he asked, "Then may I ask you where you were and what you were doing on the night of April 21st at ten in the evening?"
Qin Kong eyed him and countered, "Do you remember what you were doing that day?"
Zuo Yi did not get angry in response to this abrasive att.i.tude, and instead smiled as he retrieved the photo. "Then do you still remember what happened on the evening of March 13th?"
Qin Kong furrowed his brows and did not reply. Zuo Yi continued, "It doesn't matter if you do not remember. I can help jog your memory. According to your previous statement, you stayed in your room that evening on March 13th. At around half past eight, you left for overseas with your older brother Qin Lang." He paused here for a moment. "But according to Ye Kang Ping's latest statement, they had been at the scene of the crime at eight, so your testimony cannot prove that you were absent at the scene."
Qin Kong pursed his lips. Although the Ye Mansion was out of the way, the nearby road conditions were very good. He drove a sports car, so it was not a problem for him to return to the Qin residence within half an hour.
"Not only is it not tenable, we even have grounds to suspect that you intended to abscond."
"Good sir, speak responsibly. What evidence do you have?" Qin Kong looked at Zuo Yi, a frown on his face and anger faintly brewing in his eyes.
Zuo Yi leaned back into his chair, arms crossed as he eyed the other. Feeling as if a sharp needle was p.r.i.c.king his skin, Qin Kong felt very uneasy. He pursed his lips and asked, "Are you done with your questions? When can I leave?"
Zuo Yi glanced at Li Xin Ran behind him. "Have Mr. Qin sign his way out."
Li Xin Ran set down his pen and stood up from his chair. "Follow me, Mr. Qin."
When Li Xin Ran returned after seeing Qin Kong off, Zuo Yi was sitting at his office desk, thinking over matters. He stepped forward and asked, somewhat confused, "Leader, we don't have concrete evidence, so isn't questioning Qin Kong like this simply beating the gra.s.s to scare the snake?"
Zuo Yi raised his head to glance at him, a laugh escaping him. "I'm pulling a snake from its hole.
Li Xin Ran's brows twisted. There really was too many times where he could not understand Leader's methods, similar to how he could not understand Qin Kong. "Why do you think he still deliberately approached her even though he obviously knows Ye Zhen Zhen is a fake?"
Zuo Yi was silent for a moment, the light within his eyes becoming somewhat serene and abyssal. "Have you ever considered that the one who died might be the fake Ye Zhen Zhen?"
Li Xin Ran had no choice but to admit that this hypothesis unsettled him. "Leader, stop it." This case was already confusing enough. He didn't want to add another mystery to it.
Zuo Yi chuckled and asked instead, "How's the search for Ye Zhen Zhen's ident.i.ty?"
Li Xin Ran revealed an expression of suffering when this was brought up. "Leader, you will find it hard to imagine how many people are called Jia Jia in this country." This didn't even count those who were just called Jia.
Zuo Yi stood up from his chair and smiled as he patted Li Xin Ran's shoulder. "Good luck."
Li Xin Ran: "…"
He didn't even feel the slightest bit encouraged.
♕
Ye Zhen Zhen returned home with a slightly disturbed mind. Qin Kong's sudden appearance made her feel uneasy. She glanced at the half-drawn park sketch and somewhat eagerly picked up her pencil to continue drawing.
Drawing scenery and drawing people were different. Ye Zhen Zhen's impression of that park was not good, so drawing it was difficult. Officer Zuo had said however to draw it as accurate and lifelike as possible, so it could be easier to find. A stack of discarded sketches was piled to the side of the table, some carelessly falling to the ground as well. Ye Zhen Zhen continued to sketch though, a look of dissatisfaction on her face.
"Zhen Zhen, what's wrong?"
Suddenly, someone seized her right hand, the one she was holding her paintbrush with. Ye Zhen Zhen looked up and met Ji Zhe Yan's worried gaze.
She had absolutely no idea when he had returned home, and she was even more unclear about when he had joined by her side.
"Dr. Ji…" Ye Zhen Zhen's nose suddenly ached a bit. She turned to hug Ji Zhe Yan, burying her head into his stomach. "What can I do. How come what I'm drawing is no good…"
Ji Zhe Yan wrinkled his brows and bent over slightly to pull her toward his chest. "If you're drawing is no good, then don't draw."
Ye Zhen Zhen continued to bury her head into Ji Zhe Yan's body and didn't reply. Ji Zhe Yan held her for a while, and once he felt her gradually calm down, he slightly pulled away from her and looked down. "Tell me what happened?"
Ye Zhen Zhen snuggled into his body and raised her head. "Dr. Ji, I ran into Qin Kong today."
Ji Zhe Yan's brows furrowed again. He pulled Ye Zhen Zhen to sit down on the bed and sat behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "What did he seek you out for?"
Ye Zhen Zhen pursed her lips and replied, "He said he wanted to treat me out." She leaned back into Ji Zhe Yan's chest and felt her heartbeat gradually steady. "Dr. Ji, I'm not Ye Zhen Zhen, so why did he come find me?"
Ji Zhe Yan held her hand and kissed her cheek. "Regardless of what he wants, after seeing him, do you understand why you need to stay far away from him?"
"I understand." Ye Zhen Zhen turned around and looped her arms around Ji Zhe Yan's neck, pressing a kiss to his lips. Ji Zhe Yan allowed her to, and Ye Zhen Zhen kissed him to her heart's content, blus.h.i.+ng red once she separated and looked at him. "Dr. Ji, can I sleep together with you tonight?"
Ji Zhe Yan really felt helpless and wanted to laugh. This girl always seized every opportunity to act coquettishly.
As it happened, she left him with no way out this time.
"Alright." He softly kissed the corner of her mouth. Ye Zhen Zhen happily beamed and then, not being satisfied with small gains, asked, "Then can you keep me company every night?"
Ji Zhe Yan pinched her cheeks. "Gou Dan'er, people need to learn to be content with what they have."
Ye Gou Dan'er: "…"
Ji Zhe Yan kissed her cheek and then went to cook. Ye Zhen Zhen glanced at the table littered with sketches and decided to fight this battle tomorrow.
After Ji Zhe Yan left the bedroom, he didn't immediately go to the kitchen and instead went to the balcony to call Zuo Yi. Seeing Dr. Ji's name appear on caller ID, Zuo Yi raised a brow and whistled. "Dr. Ji, today truly is a day worth celebrating. I'll need to remember to buy a lottery ticket later."
Ji Zhe Yan ignored Zuo Yi's teasing and went straight to the point. "Today, Qin Kong sought out Zhen Zhen at school."
Zuo Yi lowered his head to laugh silently before saying, "I know; I was there today, too."
Ji Zhe Yan frowned and didn't say anything. Zuo Yi continued, "Dr. Ji, don't worry. We're keeping track of Qin Kong. If things proceed smoothly, we'll soon close the net."
"That's best."
Ji Zhe Yan intended to hang up after speaking, but Zuo Yi spoke up, stopping him. "Have you also suspected that the current Ye Zhen Zhen is the real one?"
Ji Zhe Yan didn't reply, but Zuo Yi knew he tacitly agreed. Otherwise, he wouldn't keep calling her Ye Zhen Zhen.
"Take good care of her." Zuo Yi hung up.
Ji Zhe Yan furrowed his brows and returned to the living room. He really disliked that guy.

Chapter 49: Surrender — I previously gave a false testimony.
♕
Ji Zhe Yan's study held several books, the majority of which Ye Zhen Zhen could not even make sense of the t.i.tle, let alone the content. She still removed a book with a heart ill.u.s.tration, however, and read it with gusto.
She wanted him to see her read the book, thinking that this would probably close the distance between them.
Actually, when she thought of it a bit more, this only made her become more aware of the distance between them.
"Gou Dan'er, your English is already good enough that you can read a medical book in its original form? It seems that next time, you should be scoring a hundred points on the English exam." Ji Zhe Yan's joking voice came from the other side of the room. The room was warmly lit with yellow lighting that illuminated his smile so that it was especially warm.
Ye Zhen Zhen raised her head to glance at him and curled her lips in discontent. "Look down on others less. I can still understand the pictures."
Ji Zhe Yan chuckled and used a hand to lean on the desk, looking at the page Ye Zhen Zhen had open. "Is this graphic novel interesting?"
Ye Zhen Zhen: "…"
Dr. Ji really was very annoying! Was attacking her IQ every day that fun!? Interesting?!
Seeing Ye Zhen Zhen's fuming face from the side, Ji Zhe Yan couldn't help but smile and peck her cheek. "Are you interested in the heart?"
"Yes." Her mood improving with the kiss, Ye Zhen Zhen looked up at him with a beaming smile. "How else can I know how to capture Dr. Ji's heart."
That was a line of complete nonsense, but it moved Ji Zhe Yan's heart quite a bit.
His eyes, normally still-water, surged. He smirked and reached out to ruffle Ye Zhen Zhen's black hair. "In this field, you are already the leading authority."
Ye Zhen Zhen froze and then happily embraced Ji Zhe Yan. "Dr. Ji, agree to accompany me to bed tonight."
Ji Zhe Yan couldn't stop himself from smiling. "Got it."
"Then let's go to sleep now!" Ye Zhen Zhen looked up at him, her eyes sparkling.
Ji Zhe Yan looked at the time. Although it was not yet ten o'clock, there was nothing wrong with going to sleep early.
Seeing that Ji Zhe Yan did not oppose, Ye Zhen Zhen immediately climbed into his lap. "Dr. Ji, carry."
Ji Zhe Yan looked at the young woman with her arms stretched out and, with no other choice, carried her.
Ye Zhen Zhen was a bit shaken. The first time Dr. Ji had carried her like this, she had been in the hospital. She looked at Dr. Ji's profile, her gaze unknowingly softening. "Dr. Ji, do you remember when you used to frequently push me around the garden for walks?"
"Mn." Ji Zhe Yan hummed lightly in agreement.
Ye Zhen Zhen hugged his neck and kissed his cheek. "At that time, I already liked Dr. Ji."
Seeing the tips of Ji Zhe Yan's ears gradually redden, Ye Zhen Zhen felt extremely satisfied. She moved closer to reach Ji Zhe Yan's ear and lightly blew on it.
"Stop being troublesome." Ji Zhe Yan pinched her waist and glared at her in discontent.
Ye Zhen Zhen giggled happily, even as she was set down on the bed. Seeing Ji Zhe Yan lay down beside her, Ye Zhen Zhen slowly wiggled her way closer. "Dr. Ji~"
Ji Zhe Yan glanced at her. "Not going to sleep? Close your eyes."
"Dr. Ji is so handsome; I don't want to close them." Ye Zhen Zhen began acting shameless.
Ji Zhe Yan smiled and hugged her close, asking, "Don't you have to go to campus tomorrow?"
"Mn."
"I'll send you. Before you're done, call me; I'll come pick you up."
Ye Zhen Zhen's eyes brightened. She nuzzled her head into Ji Zhe Yan's chest. "Okay."
Ji Zhe Yan brushed her hair and softly said, "If you're sleepy, sleep."
"Mn…" Ye Zhen Zhen looked up at him. "Good night, Dr. Ji."
Ji Zhe Yan gazed at her for a moment and then leaned down to kiss her lips. "I prefer doing this instead of saying good night."
Unlike the previous fiery French kiss, Ji Zhe Yan's kiss this time was like him—neither impa.s.sioned nor volatile—but it still excited Ye Zhen Zhen more, because she sensed Ji Zhe Yan's hand slipping beneath her clothes.
Nervousness filled her heart, but Ye Zhen Zhen had already intended to give all of herself. Ji Zhe Yan, however, had always intended to stop right there. "Alright…sleep…"
His voice was not as clear or collected as it normally was; it sounded a bit ragged, raw, a certain tinge to it capable of making others blush and their hearts race.
Ye Zhen Zhen's eyes hazed over, a look of grievance crossing her face. "Dr. Ji, treating the body like this is no good."
Ji Zhe Yan hugged her and suppressed a laugh. "So don't always make me keep you company at night.
"Obviously it's you who's being stubborn…" Ye Zhen Zhen grumbled.
Ji Zhe Yan kissed her and then turned off the lamp. "Okay, Gou Dan'er, go to sleep obediently."
Ye Zhen Zhen: "…"
Dr. Ji began dropping her off and picking her up from school again, making Ye Zhen Zhen very happy. After Qin Kong had appeared that day, he did not show up again for the next few days, making her even happier.
After asking Gan Run Yang for help on drawing scenery, as he was an art student, she would lean over her desk every night, trying to draw that park. After three days of drawing, she finally drew a picture that she was satisfied with.
She contacted Zuo Yi, and when they arrived at the police department, he had just finished a meeting. Zuo Yi glanced at Ye Zhen Zhen, who was waiting outside, and called her over to his office. "The park sketch is done?"
"Mn, take a look." Ye Zhen Zhen handed over the sketch. Li Xin Ran, curious, moved closer to see. Zuo Yi looked down at the sketch and admired her attention to detail. Across from the park, there was a convenience store drawn as well. This park really was too ordinary, however; if someone wasn't living nearby, they wouldn't be able to recognize it with a glance.
Zuo Yi raised his head and thought for a moment on what to say. Hou Zi then suddenly burst in from outside. "Leader, Leader! Someone called Zhou Wen came over to turn herself in!"
Once he said this, the entire office fell silent. Ye Zhen Zhen stared at him in surprise.
Zhou Wen, wasn't that housekeeper Zhou's daughter? What did she come here for?
Zuo Yi glanced down, inwardly laughing. The snake had come out.
"Sorry, please wait here for a moment." Zuo Yi stood up from his chair and left with Li Xin Ran after he spoke to Ye Zhen Zhen. "Hou Zi, bring her to the interrogation room."
"On it!"
♕
Within the interrogation room, Zuo Yi examined Zhou Wen and then asked, a smile on his face, "I heard you came here to turn yourself in? For what crime?"
"I…" Zhou Wen pursed her lips, appearing a bit nervous. "I previously gave a false testimony."
"Oh?" Zuo Yi narrowed his eyes and took a seat across from her. "Which part?"
Zhou Wen breathed in and then threw caution to the wind. "On the evening of March 13th, my mother did not leave my residence at eight o'clock; she left at seven o'clock."
Li Xin Ran, who was about to write that down, froze. Holy s.h.i.+t, what was this plot twist? He was getting more and more confused!
Zuo Yi actually didn't react much and simply looked at Zhou Wen, asking, "Why did you lie before?"
Zhou Wen pursed her lips and reminisced, "That night, I suddenly received a message from mom. She said the police might come over to ask me some questions, and if they asked me what time she left, I was supposed to say eight o'clock." Once she said this, she lightly gasped for air and then continued, "At that time, I had no idea what had happened, but soon, the police really did come to ask me questions. I replied as mom told me to. When I saw the news the next morning, I learned that Old Man Ye was murdered."
Zuo Yi silently eyed her and asked, "When did she send you the message?"
"Probably around half past nine."
"Do you still have the message?"
"No, I already deleted it."
Zuo Yi thought for a moment and then said, "Why did you suddenly want to retract your testimony?"
Zhou Wen subconsciously clenched her hands. She took a deep breath and revealed, "Old Man Ye, before he died, took really good care of me. His death made me feel very distressed. But, the murderer has still not been caught. Although mom swore to me that she didn't kill him, I still felt restless. I keep having nightmares, and my conscience guilts me often. I really don't want this to continue. Since mom said she isn't the murderer, then how could telling the truth be a bad thing?"
Zuo Yi eyed her with half-lidded eyes and then nodded. "I understand. Although you previously gave a false testimony, you have repented and took the initiative to confess. We will be lenient in dealing with you."
"Thank you." These two words seemed to have exhausted the last of Zhou Wen's strength. She slumped in her chair.
After making Hou Zi send her off, Zuo Yi and Li Xin Ran remained seated in the room. Li Xin Ran glanced at what he had just written down and turned to ask Zuo Yi beside him, "Leader, what do you think?"
Zuo Yi didn't answer and instead asked, "A report on Zhou Wen's history?"
"Ah?" Li Xin Ran stumbled but then recalled Zhou Wen's profile. "Sole daughter of housekeeper Zhou, undetermined father, twenty-four this year, raised alone by housekeeper Zhou."
Zuo Yi nodded and explained, "It's not easy for a single woman to raise a child on her own, especially under the stress of being unmarried and expecting. She surely has suffered a lot. The relations.h.i.+p between her and Zhou Wen must be very deep. This is clear from her being willing to give a false testimony despite not knowing the circ.u.mstances. The investigation has been going on for four months by now. She suddenly came to retract her testimony—don't you think this is a bit odd?"
Li Xin Ran also contemplated this. "You mean…"
"I think housekeeper Zhou made her come."
Li Xin Ran had no choice but to admit that Leader's imagination would always be richer than theirs. "But this does not make sense. If housekeeper Zhou wants to plead guilty, why not come herself; why do more than is required?"
Zuo Yi smiled. "The person who comes in would be dealt with leniently. Zhou Wen came, so the one being treated leniently is Zhou Wen."
Li Xin Ran blanked out. He felt as if he had a slight realization, but he also felt as if he still wasn't getting it. "Leader, can you say it in simpler terms?"
"Simple?" Zuo Yi glanced at him. "Your brain has always been simple."
Li Xin Ran: "…"
He endured this strike and persevered, asking again, "But why did housekeeper Zhou do this?"
Zuo Yi didn't reply to him and instead asked another question. "Did you find out who Zhou Wen's biological father is?"
Li Xin Ran frowned. "A coworker did an investigation earlier, but housekeeper Zhou had not a.s.sociated with any man in so many years, apart from Ye Hong Sheng… Leader, you aren't suspecting him, are you?!" Alarm instantly flashed across Li Xin Ran's face.
Zuo Yi said, "A wife lost a year ago, a young pretty woman, it's relatively difficult to control oneself all the time."
"But, but Ye Hong Sheng is twenty-five years her senior!"
Zuo Yi glanced at him indifferently. "Although the world is difficult to comprehend, this type of thing is not an impossibility."
