Chapter 19: Engagement — Let's get married.

This scene would be somewhat shocking to any man.

Ji Zhe Yan stood there blankly for quite a while before tiptoeing into his room, his movements unknowingly gentle and cautious.

Ye Zhen Zhen slept exceptionally sound. Not only did she not have nightmares, she even dreamed the she had a contractor create a fish pond for Dr. Ji. Ji Zhe Yan walked to the bedside and lowered his head to look at the sleeping intruder. Black bangs that reached her eyes swept across her forehead, those ordinarily clear and bright eyes now closed.

Ye Zhen Zhen seemed to have sensed something as her eyelashes fluttered lightly, picking this time to wake up. Opening her eyes and seeing Dr. Ji standing there in front of her, she had a slight reaction. Just a moment ago, wasn't she next to the pond with Dr. Ji feeding fish? How did it change to this in a split second?

She blinked and gazed straight into Ji Zhe Yan's eyes. "Dr. Ji, how did you get here?"

#Shameless!#

Ji Zhe Yan didn't reply. Ye Zhen Zhen then realized that this was Dr. Ji's bedroom, and she…was even lying in Dr. Ji's bed!

As if a spring was attached to her back, Ye Zhen Zhen violently shot off the bed. "S-s-s-sorry! I originally only wanted to just doze for a while. I didn't expect to carelessly fall asleep till now…no! I originally slept on the sofa; how did I get here?!"

#The Inevitably Flexible Use of Shamelessness in Life#

Ye Zhen Zhen raised her head to look at Ji Zhe Yan, her eyes filled with distress. "Dr. Ji, do I have somnambulism ?"1

#……#

Ji Zhe Yan didn't notice the distress in her eyes. He was completely focused on Ye Zhen Zhen's snow white neck and the slight hint of collarbone exposed by her neckline right now. He had previously seen Ye Zhen Zhen's body when she was in surgery…some of it, but at that time, he didn't have this strange feeling he had now.

He suddenly felt that this mouth was a little dry—it must be because he had performed surgery for five continuous hours and hadn't drunk any water.

Slightly pursing his lips, Ji Zhe Yan s.h.i.+fted his gaze. "If you feel you have an illness, then you should go to the hospital to receive treatment right away."

Ye Zhen Zhen: "…"

Little apple transformed into a poisonous apple within a split second. Ye Zhen Zhen began to have doubts about humanity.

She was still seated in Ji Zhe Yan's bed with a dumbstruck look when Ji Zhe Yan turned around and left the room. Ye Zhen Zhen promptly got up and scampered after him. "Dr. Ji, are you angry?" Reflecting on it from his perspective, if she one day returned home and saw a man lying in her bed, sleeping, she couldn't say that she would be able to just let him sleep for that long.

Ji Zhe Yan was stunned for a moment before he softly said, "No." He was simply a bit frustrated at this strange feeling arising in his body. "Are you hungry?" Ji Zhe Yan stopped walking and turned his head to look at her.

Ye Zhen Zhen's eyes brightened. She grabbed the opportunity to ingratiate herself. "Dr. Ji, are you hungry? You must be very exhausted after performing surgery for so long. How about you sit down and rest while I prepare dinner!"

She cheerfully and lightheartedly rushed towards the kitchen once she said this, not giving Ji Zhe Yan any opportunity to refuse. Ji Zhe Yan stared at her back for a while before walking to the living room sofa and sitting down, closing his eyes to rest.

The aroma of food soon wafted over, followed by the ding ding of the microwave. Ji Zhe Yan usually never used that microwave in the kitchen, as he would cook a calculated amount that would leave very little leftovers. Ye Zhen Zhen had heated all the leftovers from lunch, though she still made —completing, in her words, 'dinner.'

Ji Zhe Yan actually wasn't surprised by the dishes on the table. Not mentioning that Ye Zhen Zhen was the eldest daughter of an affluent family, many regular girls typically led a pampered life. It was already a bonus that she made egg drop soup.

Ye Zhen Zhen was aware of how unpresentable her dinner was and apologetically looked at Ji Zhe Yan. "I don't remember how to make food. After I learn again, I'll make another meal for you!" It wasn't that she didn't remember; she doubted she even had anything to remember, but she had instinctively made that seaweed egg drop soup.

Ji Zhe Yan picked up a bowl and chopsticks from the table, not minding at all. "It's fine. I can cook." This implied that he could cook for her again.

Ye Zhen Zhen naturally understand his unspoken words and immediately smiled from ear to ear. Dinner was smaller than lunch, but it was also consumed faster. The hour hand on the wall clock, however, was nearly aimed at nine.

Ji Zhe Yan glanced at the person beside him helping him tidy up the bowls and chopsticks and spoke with a clear and sweet voice, "You should go back soon."

Ye Zhen Zhen's hand froze at the blunt notice to leave. It really was getting late, but she didn't want to go back. There…was also no one waiting for her to return because the one person who would wait was already dead.

As if he could see through her mood, Ji Zhe Yan sighed lightly. "Do you still have cla.s.s tomorrow?"

"Mn, I'll go back first then." Ye Zhen Zhen's face was thick, but it wasn't thick enough to stay here overnight. She picked up her bag from the sofa and looked back at Ji Zhe Yan. "Dr. Ji, do you know a psychologist? I want to receive hypnosis treatment." She might have been able to wait for herself to slowly recover her memory before, but now she was a suspect. Without her memory, she couldn't even declare with conviction that she wasn't the murderer.

Ji Zhe Yan hesitated for a moment. Hypnosis treatment actually forced patients to recall moments they were the most reluctant to recall. Every treatment, to the patient, would be painful, especially to an amnesiac. It wasn't something that would be successful on the first or second attempt.

He glanced at Ye Zhen Zhen but still nodded. "I understand. I can help you contact one." He understood Ye Zhen Zhen's predicament. With the current situation, her amnesia was truly detrimental to her. Ye Zhen Zhen smiled at him and told him she was leaving, as Uncle Wu's car was already waiting downstairs.

The Ye Family's villa residence was located far from the city. In addition to the hour being so late, the eeriness made Ye Zhen Zhen's heart somewhat unsettled. She decided that next time she definitely would not come back so late at night.

As she gazed at the brightening lights in the distance, Ye Zhen Zhen's heart slightly relaxed. The car drove into the garden, and, from the distance, Ye Zhen Zhen could see a car outside and hear it rumbling. The bright yellow color was especially conspicuous in the night.

"Why are you here?" Ye Zhen Zhen got out of the car and stared at Qin Kong, who was in a somewhat bad mood.

Qin Kong leaned against the front door of his car, the night breeze blowing through his curly hair and sending it into disarray. It looked like he was waiting here for a while. "Where did you go?"

Ye Zhen Zhen frowned. His tone was like that of a husband catching a wife whose red apricot tree leant over the garden wall.2 Well, even though they were nominally an unmarried husband and wife, the feelings between them were not enough to even be considered as ordinary friends. Pressing down her unease, Ye Zhen Zhen explained, "I went to the hospital for an examination."

"Examination?" Qin Kong sneered. "Returning back from an examination at this time, your main attending doctor must actually be very dedicated to his work."

The ridicule in his tone made Ye Zhen Zhen a bit angry. He could speak like this to her, but he could not tarnish Dr. Ji. "I really did go get an examination, believe it or not." Ye Zhen Zhen headed for the villa after she finished speaking. Her wrist was suddenly grabbed though, and she was tossed into Qin Kong's car.

Pa! The car door closed, and Qin Kong stepped on the accelerator, causing the car to speed away. Uncle Wu was left behind there hesitating whether he should call the police about this situation.

Qin Kong didn't drive very far, stopping the car at a place where the Ye Family villa was still in sight. Ye Zhen Zhen turned her head to stare at him. The lines on his face were cold and hard, making him appear to be a different person than normal. The chilly breeze pouring into the car seemed to have calmed Qin Kong some. He took a deep breath and then turned to look at Ye Zhen Zhen. "Zhen Zhen, let's get married."

Ye Zhen Zhen went back to staring at him. She was silent for a moment before saying, "Qin Kong, let's break our engagement."

Qin Kong's thick eyebrows immediately twisted together, his voice heavy with irritation. "Is it because of that Ji Zhe Yan?"

Ye Zhen Zhen denied flatly, "Dr. Ji has nothing to do with this. This engagement was originally set by my grandfather. We have no underlying feelings between us either. Forcing us to be together will lead to unhappiness."

Qin Kong's expression became a bit complicated. He saw in Ye Zhen Zhen's gaze disappointment and anger, though there was also reluctance.  Ye Zhen Zhen did not blink or tear her gaze away from his sharp eyes. Finally, Qin Kong softened. "Zhen Zhen, we don't not have underlying feelings between us. We got engaged two years ago, but you lost your memory. You not remembering does not mean it doesn't exist."

Ye Zhen Zhen didn't reply, so Qin Kong lovingly continued to say, "You also say that this marriage was arranged by your grandfather. Now that he has pa.s.sed away, don't tell me you want to go against his final wishes?"

Ye Zhen Zhen's eyes narrowed. Her grandfather didn't pa.s.s away; he was murdered. Though these words were on the tip of her tongue, she never let them out.

Qin Kong saw that Ye Zhen Zhen remained unmoved and directly grasped the hand she had placed on her knee. "Zhen Zhen, affection between two people can be cultivated. Believe me, we will be happy."

Ye Zhen Zhen extracted her hand and finally spoke up. "Don't be foolish, Qin Kong. You and I are suspected murderers. How can a broken me save a broken you?"

Qin Kong: "…"

In the end, Qin Kong drove his flashy sports car back to the Ye Family's mansion in silence. Qin Kong still didn't agree to breaking the engagement, but Ye Zhen Zhen wasn't worried. In any case, there was still one year until she graduated…perhaps more than one year. In short, Officer Zuo would have already solved the case in that time.

…Probably.

Perhaps because she had slept so well during the day at Dr. Ji's house, Ye Zhen Zhen couldn't sleep no matter what she did at night. She sighed; she might as well not sleep. She walked to her desk and once again began drawing that hand she saw in her dreams. A different angle, a different position, 360 degrees with no blind spots. After drawing probably seven to eight versions, Ye Zhen Zhen was quite satisfied with her work. It seemed that her sketching fundamentals were not bad.

…Although, she should find the time to take these to Officer Zuo.

She beat back a yawn and looked at her phone displaying the time: 00:13. She finally crawled into bed and obediently went to sleep.
