Chapter 14: Barbecue — I want to!
♕
Never in her dreams did Ye Zhen Zhen think that she would meet the little apple here——oh no, she meant Dr. Ji. He was wearing a dark gray suit and was standing in front of the school gate, speaking into his phone as if nothing was out of the ordinary.
Pei Cui Cui followed Ye Zhen Zhen's arm and stared. She wanted to whistle like a hoodlum. "f.u.c.k, he's handsome!"
Ye Zhen Zhen considered this statement to be correct and nodded. There were many female students incessantly pa.s.sing by the school gate to take a look.
Pei Cui Cui nudged Ye Zhen Zhen's tiny waist with her elbow, her two eyes s.h.i.+ning. "You know this little apple?"
"Mn, he is my primary doctor."
"Primary doctor?" Pei Cui Cui suddenly understood. "No wonder it took you so long to leave the hospital."
Ye Zhen Zhen didn't pay her any attention as Ji Zhe Yan, who was standing to the side, seemed to be nearly done with his phone call. Pei Cui Cui tugged at Ye Zhen Zhen's hand and continued to ask questions. "Which hospital is he from?"
Ye Zhen Zhen finally turned her head to glance at her. "Don't think about it; he doesn't heal brain damage."
Pei Cui Cui: "…"
She never knew that one of the complications of amnesia was a venomous tongue.
While Pei Cui Cui resided in her stupefied state, Ye Zhen Zhen walked towards Ji Zhe Yan. Ji Zhe Yan had just hung up and caught sight of Ye Zhen Zhen standing in front of him when he raised his head. He unwittingly was at a loss for words.
"Dr. Ji, why are you here?" Ye Zhen Zhen was subjected to numerous curious gazes as she walked up to Ji Zhe Yan with a beaming smile.
Pei Cui Cui followed closely behind. Seeing a gap, she stuck in a needle1 and said, "h.e.l.lo, Dr. Ji. I am Pei Cui Cui."
After she said this, she recalled, s.h.i.+t, I haven't washed my hair in three days!
Fortunately, Ji Zhe Yan didn't pay any attention to her hair. He nodded courteously at Pei Cui Cui and then looked at Ye Zhen Zhen. "I have lectures here, and they just finished."
Pei Cui Cui's eyes narrowed. So as it turns out, this was the lecture that the counselor had spoken of?! How could she not say that the lecturer was this handsome!? Enrolling students would have definitely been considerably enthusiastic; at least, she would definitely have enrolled!
Ye Zhen Zhen originally didn't hear of this lecture, so she hadn't felt a sense of loss like Pei Cui Cui at the moment. She smiled at Ji Zhe Yan and extended him an invitation. "Dr. Ji, do you have any other appointments later? We were just about to go out to eat. If you're free, let's go together. I'll treat."
"No, allow me to treat!" Pei Cui Cui, who had never been this energetic her whole life, took the initiative to raise her hand. "Dr. Ji, this invitation you must let me pay. I contracted a if-I-don't-pay-I'll-die illness!"
Ye Zhen Zhen frowned slightly. She raised a hand and pushed aside Pei Cui Cui's greasy head. "Dr. Ji, she has previously received a brain injury. You don't need to pay attention to her."
Ji Zhe Yan nodded in understanding. "No worries; I know a neurologist. This is his field of authority. If there's an opportunity, I'll introduce your friend to him."
Pei Cui Cui: "…"
Can you not discuss my brains so seriously? If you do that, I'll truly believe my brains have a problem!
She glared hatefully at the two individuals in front of her.
Ji Zhe Yan saw that Ye Zhen Zhen's complexion was much better today than it had been at her last doctor's appointment. He inquired, "When did you begin attending school?"
"Just began today. I didn't expect to run into you, truly fantastic." Ye Zhen Zhen couldn't help but smile, looking as if she had eaten honey on the sly. Ji Zhe Yan somewhat awkwardly hummed. Ye Zhen Zhen then asked again, "Dr. Ji, how was your lecture today?"
Ji Zhe Yan thought for a moment before saying, "I originally believed that a university specializing in finance and economics would have significantly more male students. I didn't expect there to actually be so many female students."
Ye Zhen Zhen: "…"
Pei Cui Cui: "…"
Probably three-fifths of the female students attending the university had long gathered at the auditorium on level 8 since early that morning.
The university mostly had small eateries nearby, whose prices were also relatively sensitive to the students' needs. Ye Zhen Zhen, however, couldn't allow Dr. Ji to accompany them to eat at a roadside eatery while attired in a suit. Moreover, she had concluded that Dr. Ji wouldn't eat such things either. At this time, Pei Cui Cui's worth as a person was seen. Although she personally didn't come down often to buy food, she absolutely had a better understanding of which places had tasty dishes than the amnesia-diagnosed Ye Zhen Zhen.
Finally, the three of them left school to go to a nearby barbecue restaurant. This barbecue restaurant was the best restaurant in University City and had an excellent interior decoration and ambiance. It was also very clean, but its sole shortcoming was its expensive price range.
Because of these characteristics, this barbecue restaurant was the best place for male students to go on a date with their G.o.ddesses, so when the three of them had entered, they saw that it was practically filled with sweetheart couples——of course, a portion of them were still striving to reach this result.
There weren't many customers in the restaurant. In general, if a student wasn't doing this for X, then they wouldn't have chosen to come here to eat. The ¥7 fried rice downstairs received more of their favor.
Pei Cui Cui chose a seat she liked and sat down immediately. Ye Zhen Zhen thought for a moment and chose to sit down with her. Dr. Ji sat by himself across from them. The barbecue was not self-service. Very quickly, a waiter brought them the menu. Without even reading it, Pei Cui Cui immediately ordered three plates of streaky pork. Ye Zhen Zhen laughed gently at her before handing over a menu to Ji Zhe Yan.
Ji Zhe Yan actually didn't eat out much. One reason was because of the lack of hygiene. The second reason was because the majority of the food he saw outside was junk food. In regards to barbecue, he could immediately state how many areas of the body it was bad for.
But it seemed that these young female students loved to eat this. He browsed through the menu in his hand and ordered a few vegetable dishes. Pei Cui Cui saw that he ordered entirely vegetarian food and promptly ordered a pile of meat. Ye Zhen Zhen was forced to relinquish her privilege to order dishes.
Although Pei Cui Cui spent her time at home, her barbecue skills were not bad. As a result, she was in charge of grilling the meat on the table. After she finished grilling, she would then distribute the meat to everyone's bowls.
Just as she finished distributing the first round of freshly grilled barbecue, the cheerful and lighthearted notes of Little Apple began to echo again. Ye Zhen Zhen coughed, nearly choking on the streaky pork within her mouth. Pei Cui Cui wiped the grease from her mouth and fished out her phone with slight irritation. She didn't have any time to speak before the person on the other side of the call began speaking impatiently.
"Cui Cui, why didn't you answer my call?"
"I'm eating out with a cla.s.smate. What do you want?" Pei Cui Cui didn't forget to brush a few of the streaky pork slices with oil as she asked this.
"Eating out? Ah, I see you!"
The call abruptly ended. Pei Cui Cui mumbled to herself as she stowed away her phone into her bag.
Ye Zhen Zhen swallowed the meat in her mouth and glanced at her, asking, "Your older brother again?"
"Mn." Pei Cui Cui nodded.
"Does he have some urgent situation to find you for?"
Pei Cui Cui sneered. "What kind of situation can he even have? He would feel uncomfortable if he doesn't hara.s.s me for a day."
Just as she dropped these words, a guy with a crew cut rushed in from outside. "Cui Cui, is he the cla.s.smate you were talking about?!"
His hand was pointed straight at Ji Zhe Yan, as if he had received a fatal blow.
Ye Zhen Zhen blinked and turned her head to look at Pei Cui Cui. "This is your…boyfriend?"
Pei Cui Cui rolled her eyes. "My brother."
Ye Zhen Zhen chuckled. All sister-complex older brothers are broken-winged angels.
The guy just seemed to have caught sight of Ye Zhen Zhen and blanked out. Afterwards, he somewhat excitedly said, "Ye, Ye Zhen Zhen, you're out, out of the hospital?"
Ye Zhen Zhen smiled and nodded. Even better, a stuttering angel.
Pei Cui Cui cackled evilly and moved closer to whisper into Ye Zhen Zhen's ear, "Oh, that's right. I forgot to tell you earlier. My older brother has always been secretly crus.h.i.+ng on you."
Ye Zhen Zhen: "…"
Perhaps, due to nerves, the guy's face became slightly red. "How, how is your body d-doing?"
"I'm recovering quite well. This is my primary doctor." She pointed at Ji Zhe Yan sitting opposite them.
The guy once again looked at Ji Zhe Yan, his expression a heavenly difference from before. "You're, you're a doctor?"
Ji Zhe Yan nodded.
The guy's eyes brightened, and he nearly threw himself forward. "Doctor, I have always been scared of the dark as a kid. Can you save me?"
Pei Cui Cui: "…"
At this moment, she looked like she wanted to kick him into returning home.
Ji Zhe Yan stared at him but didn't reply. The guy continued to say, "In fact, I'm not specifically afraid of the dark; rather, I'm afraid of seeing the moon. Doctor, every time I see the moon, I feel that my body is changing."
This time, not only Pei Cui Cui, even Ye Zhen Zhen was silent. She felt that he and Qin Kong would definitely become friends—no—wardmates.
Ji Zhe Yan was the only one who had a calm and composed appearance. "My suggestion is to read more books."
Guy: "…"
Pei Cui Cui didn't have the heart to continue staying here. She savagely ate her streaky pork and then dragged her elder brother out. The dining table suddenly only had Ye Zhen Zhen and Ji Zhe Yan left. Ye Zhen Zhen looked at the leftover food and somewhat artificially asked, "Dr. Ji, could it be that you do not like to eat barbecue?"
Ji Zhe Yan stared blankly at her for a moment before shaking his head. "No, it's just that I don't eat it frequently. Eating it once in awhile is not bad."
"Oh," Ye Zhen Zhen said before taking over Pei Cui Cui's incomplete work.
Her mood seemed indescribably downcast. Ji Zhe Yan looked at her for a moment and stated, "Next time, let's go to my house to eat. Although I cannot guarantee that the food I cook will taste great, at least I can guarantee it would be hygienic and nutritious."
Ye Zhen Zhen's hand, which had been brus.h.i.+ng a chicken wing, suddenly stopped above the grill. Her two large eyes blinked before staring at Ji Zhe Yan unblinkingly. Ji Zhe Yan himself was also somewhat embarra.s.sed. He had never invited someone of the opposite s.e.x to his home before. Seeing Ye Zhen Zhen's reaction at the moment, he felt that it had probably been very rude of him. "If you don't want to…"
"I want to! I want to! I very much want to!" This words practically came out as a roar. The restaurant suddenly became strangely quiet for a moment before breaking out into resounding applause. There were even some rowdy jeering thrown into the mix.
Wait a minute! What are they misunderstanding!?
Ye Zhen Zhen's face immediately became crimson. She called for the waiter to quickly settle the bill and then dragged Ji Zhe Yan out.
"I apologize, Dr. Ji." Ye Zhen Zhen looked at Ji Zhe Yan with an apologetic gaze. Their nice meal had become abandoned as they fled. Ji Zhe Yan definitely must not have eaten his fill.
Ji Zhe Yan didn't mind and shook his head. "It's alright. Next time, I'll treat you to a meal."
"Okay." Ye Zhen Zhen couldn't be more antic.i.p.ative at the thought of being at Dr. Ji's home with Dr. Ji cooking. Ji Zhe Yan laughed, and Ye Zhen Zhen's eyes suddenly opened wide like an ox. Did Dr. Ji just laugh!? He laughed!
Ye Zhen Zhen wasn't given time to overcome her shock as Ji Zhe Yan's car was already right under their noses. He opened the door, turned around, and said to Ye Zhen Zhen, "Tomorrow morning when you come for another diagnosis, take a physical examination while you're at it. I have already made arrangements."
"Okay." Ye Zhen Zhen nodded. Uncle Wu could also drive her over. The two of them parted ways, their cars going in opposite directions. Ye Zhen Zhen was still calming down her stirred up emotions when her cell phone began to ring without any notice.
It was Sun Qian.
"Auntie, what's the matter?"
"Zhen Zhen, Lawyer Qian, the one in charge of the inheritance bequeathments, has returned from abroad."
