Chapter 19
Although they agreed to go, Feng Fei and Hai Xiu still did shop for a while. They took a taxi and brought the things they bought to the party.
The two arrived at around eight o'clock in the evening, all the people had basically arrived and when they saw Feng Fei, they came closer to greet him.
Feng Fei swept a glance at the people in the party and sure enough, He Hao really called a lot of their cla.s.smates. Holding Hai Xiu's hand, he went inside the room and let the kid sit on a slightly secluded sofa. He then walked to the captain of basketball, opened a can of beer and directly drank on it. He said with a smile: "Please accept my sincere apology to almost failing to see you off."
The captain's relations.h.i.+p with Feng Fei had always been good, that was why he didn’t care much about that matter. He laughed and said: "Alright, alright. I’ll be gone for just six months, but I’ll be back after the exam so I can catch up with your graduation photo. Hey, I really thought that you and your girlfriend would go together, He Hao said that you have a date with your girlfriend…"
The captain was slightly drank so he talked so much. Feng Fei really wanted to go to Hai Xiu's side but he was a little embarra.s.sed to say it, so he still seriously listened. But after a moment of impatience, he slightly pushed the captain and said: "Find someone else to talk."
The captain laughed heartily and went on courting his own girlfriend.
Feng Fei came back to Hai Xiu's side, handed him a bottle of water and asked: "It's not too noisy?"
Hai Xiu shook his head, his eyes were s.h.i.+ning when he said: "That… That girl with your captain is a… ah…" Hai Xiu couldn’t recall the name of the girl, but he vaguely remembered that the girl was the school belle1 and had good grades. He even heard that her character was very good and very gentle.
"En." Feng Fei sat down next to Hai Xiu. "They are childhood sweethearts. They knew each other since they were un primary school, then they got together in junior high school. The captain usually didn't look for her in the school because he was afraid to delay her studies, but he would secretly go behind some cla.s.srooms just to peek on her."
Hai Xiu said with admiration: "Nice. A match made in heaven."
"Is this Hai Xiu?" One of the school's basketball team members saw that the two was just sitting on one side and not playing with everyone. "Let's play together. It's boring to just sit here."
Hai Xiu glanced at Feng Fei and said in a small voice: "You…"
"Does he listen to you everytime you ask him?" The guy helplessly smiled: "When we called him, he didn’t want to go. But when we called you to go, he went with you here. Do you have him in the palm of your hand2?
Hai Xiu quickly shook his head: "No… It's not—"
"I'm just joking. Come and play for a while." The guy looked back at the several girls who were eager to see Feng Fei, he really didn’t want them to be disappointed.
Hai Xiu smiled: "Teach me how to play then."
Hai Xiu didn’t want to just sit on the side and do nothing. He looked over at Feng Fei who just laughed at him and gave a nod. Feng Fei stood, walked over and placed his hand on the shoulder of the boy who told them to play. “Who are you to teach him? I’ll teach him!"
The guy laughed, "You teach yourself! You always lose when playing and you still have the nerve to teach?"
Feng Fei ignored him and pulled Hai Xiu to play with the students. He let Hai Xiu sit in the corner of a sofa and then sat beside the kid.
When Feng Fei found out that the students were playing Counting Seven3, he suddenly had a headache. "Can you change this one? Haven't you had enough with math cla.s.ses?"
The girls smiled and said no. Hai Xiu didn’t react at first, then said: "Count… Count what?"
"Everyone in this circle will count starting from 1. If you encountered numbers with multiple of 7 or any numbers that has number 7 in it such as 17, you’ll shout over instead of counting it." Feng Fei explained, "Like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, over! 10, 13, over! 66, over! 99… Got it?"
Hai Xiu nodded: "I got it!"
"If you made a mistake, you’ll drink as a punishment." Feng Fei swept a glance at Hai Xiu, "If you got it wrong, I’ll drink it in your place."
Hai Xiu suddenly recalled the time when Feng Fei got drunk, he quickly shook his head and said in a low voice: "I… I'll do it by myself."
Before Feng Fei could protest, a girl laughed and said: "We won’t drink today. We will choose an individual punishment."
Feng Fei was naturally happy by this. Because if the punishment was drinking, he inevitably had to drink for two people and his stomach would be bloated. He nodded and said: "Good. Change the punishment."
Everyone started discussing the punishment and they had different opinions. In the end, they each wrote one punishment and then drew lots. And that was: the first person to lose will kiss the last person to win.
Everyone laughed. Some girls blushed, some were a little frustrated and had to give up.
And so, the person near the door started counting.
There was no problem on the first few counts, but as they got to one hundred, the speed was significantly reduced.
"122."
"123."
"124."
"125."
It was Feng Fei's turn and he blurted out: "126… No!"
He quickly tried to recover it: "Over!"
Everyone laughed out loud and the boys ridiculed him. Feng Fei didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, he then cursed out and laughed: "I told you not to play this! My brain can’t keep up."
Feng Fei was the first one to lose, so the boys started making mistakes on purpose. While some of the girls' face were red and werr still counting seriously.
Feng Fei stared at the doorway, he was thinking of an excuse to hide.
On the other side, Hai Xiu nervously looked at Feng Fei. His heart was beating fast—Feng Fei was eliminated first, he had to… had to kiss the winner!
"265."
"267… Ah, wrong…"
The numbers were getting bigger and lots if people were being eliminated. And finally, there was only a girl and Hai Xiu.
Girl: "459."
Hai Xiu: "460."
Girl: "461."
Hai Xiu: "Over."
Girl: "4… 463."
Feng Fei stared stupidly at Hai Xiu, he suddenly forgot that he wanted to hide.
Everyone could already tell that the girl was struggling a little. Feng Fei licked his lips unnaturally as he scooched to the side. He was afraid of bothering Hai Xiu, so he looked at Hai Xiu out of the corner of his eye. He found that Hai Xiu wasn’t struggling that much with counting, only his cheeks were a bit red.
Hai Xiu: "516."
Girl: "Over… Over…"
Hai Xiu: "Over."
The girl was stunned for a moment and even forgot what the next number was.
In the end, the girl was eliminated.
"Wow!" The captain looked at Hai Xiu and praised him: "Awesome!"
The students stared at Feng Fei and Hai Xiu, then started teasing them: "Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!"
Hai Xiu's face turned red as he gave Feng Fei an uneasy look. Although this was his first time to play this game, but the rule was simple. He would only count and avoid number 7 or any numbers with multiple of 7. Unlike the other guys who lost on purpose… he didn’t really quit on purpose.
Because he didn’t want Feng Fei to kiss other people… He really, really, really didn’t want to.
Feng Fei was afraid that Hai Xiu felt tense, so he said to the students: "Don't shout ah! What does it mean when two guys kissed?"
He Hao was dissatisfied and said: "Why not? Hai Xiu didn’t say anything about it, and yet, you’re fussing over it. Just kiss already so we can play again."
Feng Fei turned to look at Hai Xiu, he himself was a bit nervous. Then he let out a hollow laugh: "You… You know what they said?"
Hai Xiu nodded awkwardly. Of course… he knew.
"You…" Feng Fei couldn’t help laughing, "Don’t blame me ah…"
He leaned closer and Hai Xiu subconsciously retreated. Feng Fei's heart thudded violently as he recalled Hai Xiu's serious dedication on counting a moment ago. Then he directly pressed Hai Xiu on the sofa.
Hai Xiu was sitting on the corner of the big sofa, half of his body was sinking on the soft cus.h.i.+on and Feng Fei was in front of him, basically blocking everyone's view.
All of them were teasing the two. Feng Fei looked down at Hai Xiu and suddenly whispered: "You know that you could just lose on purpose in the game, right?"
Hai Xiu looked up at Feng Fei restlessly. The light in the room was ambiguous and Feng Fei was blocking the light, so he couldn’t see Feng Fei's expression clearly. He couldn’t lie either and just let out a gentle "hmm" sound.
Feng Feng chuckled and said in a low voice: "You asked for it."
Before the voice died away, Feng Fei lowered his head and kissed Hai Xiu's lips.
the most beautiful girl in the school or on the campus; campus belle; school babe ↩ complete control over someone and to be able to make them do anything you want: ↩ It's a game in China. You play Seven or Counting seven by sitting in a circle and start counting, but skipping over "seven"—so six goes right to eight—because seven is considered bad luck. But it gets harder. Multiples of seven also have to be avoided, so you have to avoid saying 14, 21, 28, and so on. Every time someone screws up, they will drink and the game starts back at 1. ↩
