In the end, Mamiko and I ended up staying in the workplace. We were currently facing my little sister who was on the couch. My father was secretly taking peeks at us while pretending to work on his storyboard.
"Umm, are you really dating Ani [1]?"
Out of nowhere, my little sister asks Mamiko this question. My sister had a suspecting face on.
Mamiko shyly answered my sister's question, "Y-yes, I am…"
As if my sister still couldn't accept that, she asked again, "Really~?"
"No, really! She… really is my girlfriend."
My sister was unnecessarily pressuring Mamiko, so I interrupted by saying that.
"That's what Ani says, but…"
Then, my sister changes her target to me. She seemed to be in an even worse mood than before as she glared at me.
"Isn't that fine, I'm her boyfriend after all."
"Was I asking you to answer!?"
"Mamiko was troubled. As her boyfriend, I can't afford to just sit back and watch."
"It shouldn't have been too hard of a question!"
"She was troubled though. As her boyfriend, I understand."
As I talk back to her, my sister keeps quiet as she stares at me.
It looked like she was somewhat annoyed or frustrated by something.
"Also, your boyfriend act is really getting on my nerves."
"You were trying to doubt both Mamiko and I, so of course I had to do that."
After I replied, my sister once again returned to being silent.
Still, she didn't stop glaring me, and I could feel the atmosphere worsen.
"Why are you so mad?"
"I'm not really mad."
"No, you are mad, aren't you? It's obvious that you are."
"… It's just that I'm really annoyed."
It was obvious that she wasn't just annoyed, but if I try to say more the argument will never end, so I won't say anything.
"I see. Then, are you good? We need to go."
"Ah…"
To my words, my sister could only stay silent. I take a sidelong glance at the sofa and stand up.
"Mamiko, let's go."
"Y-yeah…"
While being overly careful of my sister, Mamiko stands up as well.
"Dad, good luck on your romantic comedy."
"Y-yeah! Look forward to it!"
Finally, I casually call out to my father, and moved to leave the workplace.
"W-wait a minute!"
However, my sister once again stopped us. Honestly, it was starting to get annoying. I don't understand why she stopped us earlier, and for some reason she's mad.
I didn't say anything as I turned around to look at her. I'll let her say something, but if she's still showing the same behavior as before, I'll say something back and just leave.
"As Ani said, I'm probably mad. I'm really frustrated right now."
"That's what I thought. Though, I don't know why."
"… It's Ani's fault."
"What?"
"As I was saying, it's brother's fault!"
"… Eh, you hated my boyfriend act that much?"
"I hate that as well, but I'm more annoyed that you got a girlfriend in the first place."
"Whaat?"
What is this girl saying? She shouldn't care about whether or not I get a girlfriend. That's what I thought, but what my sister said next surprised me more.
"After all… Ani is already mine!"
Umm, what does she mean? Why do I belong to my little sister?
"We go shopping together, watch TV together, we confide in each other, and he does a lot of different things for me!"
No, I mean isn't that what siblings are supposed to do for each other?
"I was trying to say, that I like you… Ani that is."
No, this girl is bad. She is seriously saying that. That's not right.
"Wait a moment, cool down a bit. We are siblings, right?"
"So noisy! I like brother as a man, not as siblings! That's why I'm frustrated!"
My sister said that desperately.
Somehow, I was just confessed to, but there couldn't be a confession that was more troublesome than this one. Now then, what should I do…
For some reason, I'm way too popular these days. Just recently, Mamiko had confessed to me.
"… Yos.h.i.+ki-kun?"
As I was lost about what to do, Mamiko, who was next to me, called out to me. Looking at Mamiko, she looked like how she was when I was talking to Ueno. In other words, Mamiko became mad.
Probably me not saying anything caused her to think that I was wondering whether or not I should date my sister. But no, I was just confused. Of course I wouldn't date my sister, right?
"It's alright. Please don't make a weird misunderstanding."
"… Then, that's fine."
Mamiko said that with an unhappy face, and quickly turns away her face. It seems I was able to convince her.
Now, my sister. I turn my eyes to my sister again. When I look at her, my sister jumps and her shoulders shudder. It seems that she was preparing herself for something.
"Umm, you want to date me, right?"
"Well, yeah."
To her quiet confirmation, I give her a resolute response.
"It's impossible. I can't date you."
"… That's what I thought. You already have a girlfriend after all."
"No, that isn't the problem. I don't see you as a woman."
"Even if I didn't have a girlfriend, I still definitely wouldn't date you."
I was a little bit harsh, but this much should be fine I think. After all, I don't have any feelings for her.
After I said that, my sister went "Is that so!", and angrily barged out of the workplace.
Well, that's probably fine. It was a really surprising, but we are siblings, not romantic interests. While thinking this, I move my legs once more to leave the workplace. This time, we will leave properly.
"Well~ That was surprising~"
Then, I heard my father's voice.
I completely forgot. Oh yeah, my father was there. He heard my sister's confession earlier, right? Wasn't that bad?
However, my father throws out my worries as he opens his mouth.
"I never thought Yui liked Yos.h.i.+ki~"
"Wait, your children may have ended up dating each other. Shouldn't you have a little more tension then that?"
"Well, it's up to Yui who she falls in love with~. It's not exactly a bad thing."
"That's true, but…"
"More than that, let me use the previous scene in my manga."
My father said that with a satisfied expression.
"No, what are you saying?"
"If something so surprising, so interesting were to happen in front of you, wouldn't you just want to write about it?"
"… Well, I guess you can use it, but is it alright? Is it really that interesting?"
"Absolutely, it's interesting. Leave it to me!"
My father makes a fist as he appeals to me. He then heads towards his disk and begins drawing his storyboard.
"G-good luck."
With the complicated feelings that I had, that was all I could say to my father. Then my father who was facing the desk let's out one more thing.
"Well, leave Yui to me. It's fine if you don't think anything of it."
Coming from my father, those words gave me a sense of relief.
"Yeah, I'll leave it to you."
With that said, I leave my father's workplace.
TN:
Ani is a way of referring to your own brother. It is used specifically by people of their own family and is slightly more casual then Onii-san or something along those lines.
