Chapter 1. Cling Film Became a Spirit!

Hua Ji stumbled as he ran.

Behind him, a figure dressed in a black, skintight suit clung to him like a shadow, as if every second he would be caught. In the end, Hua Ji was always able to narrowly avoid him.

Hua Ji furiously scolded in his heart, which b.a.s.t.a.r.d was it, who dared to employ one of the vampire[1] to find trouble with him?! When he returns and properly investigates this person’s ident.i.ty, he will not let them off lightly!

Hua Ji grasped any opportunity that presented itself, rus.h.i.+ng head first out of the forest. The scene that met his eye was one of a white beach. d.a.m.n, he overdid it!

Hua Ji was dizzy with anger, at this moment he was endlessly regretful, he shouldn’t have run to Hawaii for a vacation, there was simply nowhere to escape.

The vampire chasing after him from behind started laughing cruelly.

“Really stupid, did you think that I would not be able to catch you if you ran to the ocean? Did you forget? I have wings!”

After speaking, the vampire’s skintight black suit opened two slits on the back. Two ma.s.sive, bony wings unfurled into the sky, gleaming from the round moon and seeming even more peculiar.

Hua Jia was lazy to turn back. The vampire behind him was only a baron, there was almost no difference in power between them. If not for the rules of Zhong Hua[2] kingdom stating that animals weren’t able to become spirits after the establishment of the kingdom, and if they became spirits they had to become canines, causing his cultivation to be incredibly slow, he would long have caused that d.a.m.nable little bat behind him to become roasted wings.

However, this terrain truly wasn’t suited to let him go all out. He, a little fox spirit running to the water’s edge, how could he survive?

A shrill whistle sounded out by his ear and Hua Jia instantly contorted his body. In the next second, razor sharp nails flashed past the strands of hair by his ears, barely missing his throat.

No, this couldn’t go on.

Just when Hua Jia was preparing a large attack, there was a sudden coolness from his feet.

His heart received a shock. Oh no, without knowing, he had run into the ocean!

Whoosh, the waves brushed against the sh.o.r.e. Hua Jia’s feet slipped and his limbs flew in different directions, causing him to slide three to four metres[3]. Out of blind luck, it allowed him to avoid the attack from the vampire.

The vampire cracked up, “Aiyo, your little dance[4] was not bad. Truly deserving of the t.i.tle of the little celebrity of s...o...b..z.”

Hua Ji didn’t have the time to care about replying, suspiciously eyeing the ocean’s surface, his back p.r.i.c.kling and beading with sweat.

The pitch-black ocean’s surface faintly shone from the moonlight, the seawater surging with a strange rhythm. The ocean seemed to be murmuring. Faintly, Hua Ji felt as if something was coming over.

He subconsciously backed away, yet did not guard against the vampire's unceasing attacks, his long and sharp claws directly snagging his shoulder. Not waiting for Hua Jia to unleash fox fire, his throat had an additional iron chain wrapped around it. The vampire started laughing savagely.

"Hahaha, let's see where you have left to run!"

Hua Jia's back faced the vampire as he collapsed in the sea, hands unconsciously clenching the iron chain. His body was tightly bound and he shouted madly, "Idiot, release me now!"

The vampire said disdainfully, "Are you stupid? If I let you go how will I be able to complete my mission? After all, you're worth 30 thousand[5]!"

Hua Jia flew into a rage, "Dumba.s.s I'll give you 50 thousand, quickly let me go!!"

The Vampire Bro[6] paused in his movements, asking, "Are you sure? You'll give me 50 thousand?"

Just when the Vampire Bro was plotting to first receive the 50 thousand from Hua Jia before recapturing him to get the 30 thousand from the mission, in total getting 80 thousand, the seawater rose furiously. Within a second it went from the feet up to the calves.

The Vampire Bro lowered his head to look, "En?"

Hua Jia was on the verge of crying. Foxes were born with a natural sense of danger, he could feel that an immense danger was approaching, yet he was captured by that vampire who would sell his body for 30 thousand, unable to run.

Seawater continued to rush towards the beach, the moonlight hazy. The vampire race's eyesight had always been good, the Vampire Bro was desperately staring at the seawater, the hand holding the iron chain seemed to relax. He asked Hua Jia in a low tone, "Hey, do you feel anything?"

Hua Jia pulled a long face, "Feels like we're about to die!"

The Vampire Bro frowned, loosening the iron chain to not strangle the mission target to death. After all, the employer did request him to be captured alive. He then looked towards the sea again. Looking at it… Dear Satan ah, what the h.e.l.l is that?

The sea seemed to be covered in a thin, transparent membrane, suffused with a strange l.u.s.tre, rippling with bright colours. It was as if there was a countless number of fish all swimming together. At the same time, Vampire Bro and Hua Jia seemed to have b.u.mped into something.

Vampire Bro's wings shook and he flew directly into the sky. Hua Jia desperately pumped his legs, "You @#¥%&…… my, my neck!"

Vampire Bro instantly flew lower. Aiya, can't strangle the target to death.

Hua Jia once again plummeted into the sea, yet his feet stepped on something soft. What, what did he just step on?

"Hey, you're stepping on me."

A crisp and clear sound rang out. Hua Jia twisted his neck to look in all four directions, yet didn't see anything.

"Below you, below you, you're stepping on me."

Hua Jia instantly jumped up. In the instant he jumped, something below his feet seemed to flash by, causing him to fall into the sea once again, finally stepping onto the familiar beach.

After that, both he and the Vampire Bro witnessed the occurrence of a miracle.

The water's surface seemed to be raised by something, the transparent membrane unhurriedly moving up. Through the milky-white membrane, Hua Jian could even see the moon as well as the pitch-black reefs behind it. However, through the membrane the scene was distorted, seeming monstrous and bizarre.

"What are you two doing?"

A ma.s.sive membrane rose on the water's surface. Hua Jia gaped in disbelief at the sight. The ma.s.sive membrane was at least a hundred metres long, after rising, it was at least five or six stories high. Standing in front of it, he seemed as tiny as a piece of dried meat about to be wrapped by a sheet of cling film.

Vampire Bro was also shocked silly, he even forgot to flap his wings, causing him to fall into the water with a splash.

After all, the area the 'cling film' encompa.s.sed even included him!

The transparent cling film looked at the two dazed pieces of dried meat, repeating, "What are you doing? Could this be the revenge killing written about in books?"

Hua Jia quickly regained his senses. In the legends within Zhong Hua kingdom, everything had a soul, anything could become a spirit. Just take it that the cling film became a spirit!

He instantly said, "This senior please help me out, help me get rid of the bat spirit behind me! I'll pay you!!"

The vampire also returned to his senses, tightening his grip on the iron chain, vigilantly staring at the cling film, "What are you? Do you want to fight with me over the reward? Let me tell you, I've already recorded this down in the mercenary guild, this mission only I can take! Even if you want to take this mission, you'll have to wait for me to fail first!"

The 'cling film' trembled, it did not understand what these two people were talking about, however, this didn't matter.

It said, "You are tastier, let me have a bite and I'll help you."

It was talking to Vampire Bro.

Vampire Bro was enraged, his originally pale white face flushed red from his anger, "What did you say? You dare to insult me? I, Daoqueras Jin Aradekel[7] challenge you to a duel!!"

The 'cling film' felt the Vampire Bro's fury but it didn't understand, why did he get angry?

He simply asked the other little dried meat, "If I help you get rid of him, what can you give me?"

Hua Jia straightforwardly said, "Everything![8] Everything!"

The cling film was very satisfied. No matter if it was the commonly used English or the Chinese that had the most speakers, it understood both.

In the next second, the whistling of the waves ceased and the waves abruptly increased in height, until they actually reached ten metres, cras.h.i.+ng down as if they were hiding the sky and covering the earth[9]. Vampire Bro let out a surprised shriek before his body became an afterimage, directly disappearing.

However, n.o.body saw a transparent, milky-white tentacle silently poking at those afterimages, sticking on to Vampire Bro.

Vampire Bro was like a yoyo being pulled back, heavily landing on top of the cling film.

Hua Jia watched in shock as the cling film started to flash. One dot, two dots, three dots, what the f*ck are these uncountable flickering dots of light?

They are eyes.

The densely packed eyes opened wide, closely staring at Vampire Bro stuck on the tentacle.

The cling film said, "Smells good."

The Vampire Bro was instantly scared stiff by the numerous eyes, uncontrollably letting out a screech, he made a prompt decision and actually used his left hand to directly cut off his own right hand!

In the next second his body became a b.l.o.o.d.y mist and vanished.

The cling film looked around blankly, its tone sounding disappointed, "Disappeared."

Once it caught sight of the right hand still stuck on its tentacle, it cheered up again, "Can still eat it next time."

After that, the tentacle brought that unceasingly bleeding right hand to the ma.s.sive cling film's back. Hua Jia clearly saw the hand instantly turn into countless threads of fresh blood, circulating inside the transparent cling film's body. In the blink of an eye the milky-white membrane became a b.l.o.o.d.y red.

The round moon shone through its body, becoming a blood moon.

Hua Jia lay blankly on the beach, his body colder than the seawater.

He mumbled, "You, what exactly are you…"

After not even three to five seconds, the cling film returned to milky-white, the countless dots of light on the membrane all gathering at Hua Jia's side. Being stared at by so many eyes, Hua Jia's body tensed up, not daring to move a muscle.

The cling film's body began shrinking, little by little. At the same time, its body gave off a seven-coloured radiance, actually becoming a person!

He looked to be an extremely handsome man, with a high brow and deep-set eyes. His pupils were silvery-white throughout, with white eyebrows and pale lips. He wore a milky-white robe, like the clothes from ancient Greece, with an ocean-blue sash tied around his waist. Looking closely, that white robe even had ripples undulating.

The man had a head of long, silvery-white hair, with only a few strands at the front and the rest directly falling into the water, as if spreading out a silver curtain of light, moving up and down with the waves, beautiful to the extreme.

He lifted his feet up, walking towards Hua Jia.

Hua Jia dazedly looked at the G.o.d-like man in front of him. He was truly unable to believe that just ten seconds ago the man was still a piece of cling film!!

The man opened his mouth, his voice sounding silky-smooth like the sea.

"I am Shui Mu[10]." He repeated, "A jellyfish from the beginning of the Seastar era[11]."

TN: Hey guys! I’ve decided to pick up this book to translate after leeching off so many other translators’ translations since it seems interesting ^^ I’ll be translating as I read, so I don’t know what’s going on next either. If you see any mistakes, please do let me know!

[1] 血族 in Chinese, it’s another way of saying vampire, the more common way being 吸血鬼

[2] Literally ‘planting flowers’ in Chinese. I thought the pinyin sounded nicer so I kept it that way.

[3] One metre = 3.2 feet

[4] 太空步 in Chinese. Literally translates to ‘outer s.p.a.ce walk’.

[5] According to google, the Chinese, 三万刀, means 30k in USD but literal translation is ’30 thousand blades’.

[6] This was hard to translate. The Chinese is 血族小哥, meaning ‘vampire little older brother’ but the rough meaning of 小哥 is ‘little fellow/brat’.

[7] Daoqueras Jin Aradekel – The Chinese is 道格拉斯・金・阿拉德库

[8] It was originally in English already. Any English words will be bolded from now on.

[9] 铺天盖地 meaning earth-shattering, roughly.

[10] It means jellyfish in Chinese, but I think it’s also his name since I skimmed through later chapters and it’s all he’s referred to as. If I’m wrong I’ll come back to edit it.

[11] Seastar, or starfish. 海星初世代的水母 – If anyone has a better translation for this, I’ll be grateful.
