“The way people behave around someone who is handicapped varies person to person. There are people who pretend not to see me, and there are people who make sure to help me too. But, while I’m thankful for the people who try to help, I don’t think the people who pretend not to notice me are cruel.”
“&h.e.l.lip;&h.e.l.lip;Tatsumi?”
His confused voice made him lift his face that had lowered at some point. Kusamakura’s tone was tinged with worry. He didn’t intend on changing his expression like that, but he may have been making a more grim face than he imagined. He frantically pressed his hands against his cheeks. His hands informed him of how tense his expression was. He tried to hide it with a wry smile.
“Of course that isn’t limited to the people who definitely know the right way to help.”
He was thankful for the people who felt the need to help him. That wasn’t a lie.
“It was when I hadn’t been with the company very long, but one of my female coworkers would grab my white cane.”
She―Yamauchi, may have done so out of kindness. She was a woman who spoke with a clear voice, and whatever was on her mind. She was about as tall as Tatsumi, and seemed to be rather thin as her heels clacked loudly whenever she walked. She had a pace much faster than the other women around her, and seemed to work quickly as well.
