Chapter 30
VOLUME 10 CHAPTER 30: DON’T TELL ME THIS IS SENDING OFF YUAN ZHI (3)

Liu Bei POV

Ah. I hurriedly reached out to grab her.

*Tatatatata*

As I did so, the sound of horse hooves could be heard and when I looked up, Yuan Zhi had swung down her reins and galloped off.

“Yuan Zhi!” I yelled as I began chasing after her. But there is no way that a human can catch up to a horse so the distance between us grew significantly in a very short time span.

“When fate decrees it, I will come to find you again! When the time comes, I hope that you can return my important thing to me! Lord Liu Bei, we will meet again!!”

A sonorous yell from Yuan Zhi filled my ears as the sound of horse hooves grew distant. I continued to chase after her for about 1-200 paces before I gave up and stopped.

Haa… Haa… Haa… So it ended up being like this huh? I was still trying my best to see her off nicely but it did not work at all…

But… Important object huh…

I raised my hand when I thought of Yuan Zhi’s last words and saw that I had caught her bloodstained bandana back there.

When fate decrees it… She will come back huh?

Really, why do all of you like to play such games?

I chuckled to myself and kept the bandana in my sleeve pocket as I headed back into the city. Well then, that’s one more thing to keep with me.

No POV / POV of G.o.d

*Tatatata*

The sound of horse hooves echoed in the mountains as they landed on the round rocks and on the waters, making the water splatter about.

Xu Shu, who was sitting on the horse, was looking straight ahead. Not too long ago, she had just been through what was the most painful parting in her life. Perhaps it’s because of this or perhaps her eyes are not used to it without the bandana, tears continually stream down her face.

Xu Shu turned back to see if there was anyone following her. She knew that Liu Bei would not do that but she still checked just in case. She had a promise to keep after all and she did not want to break any more promises today.

“Almost there huh…” Xu Shu muttered to herself as she looked ahead at the patch of barren woodlands where there was a thatched hut obscured by fog in the distance.

Even an ordinary person would realise that anyone living here would not be an extraordinary individual. Indeed, the one living here was a great hermit scholar, who also happened to be Xu Shu’s important friend.

But at this time, Xu Shu was feeling very complicated and conflicting emotions when she thought of this friend.

“Jia!” She yelled as she swung her reins down and continued forward until she was just 2 dozen paces away from the hut.

She then dismounted and went on foot while leading the horse along. She looked into the hut and saw that important friend of hers lazing around on the stone table in the middle of the room.

That really is like her huh? Xu Shu thought as she gathered her feelings and handed the reins to her horse to Zhuge Jun before quickly walking into the hut.

“I’m here.” Xu Shu said without her usual cheer and looked at the girl in front of her who continued to lie down on the icy stone table despite the cold weather.

“Un? Yuan Zhi?” The little lady turned and asked. She too did not seem to be happy either but was not unhappy like Xu Shu was as she calmly asked, “Why did Yuan Zhi come here?”

“You didn’t know I would come here?” Xu Shu calmly replied.

“Un…” The girl turned away in a clear sign that she did know. Even though she was an outstanding talent in various ways, she was not particularly good at l

ying.

“So you knew about my going to the Cao faction as well then?”

“… Haa…” The girl sighed and shrugged, “Yes I know.”

“You knew!” Xu Shu frowned and balled her fists but could never bring herself to actually hit her friend.

“Yet even though you knew, you intentionally withheld this information from me.” Xu Shu continued, her volume gradually increasing as she did so, “You already told me so much about what would happen before, why would you still withhold information from me?”

When she finished, the echoes reverberated around the mountains but this did not seem to faze the girl lying on the table at all as she looked at Xu Shu calmly, “So haven’t I fulfilled your wish?”

“… Eh?” With just those words, Xu Shu’s frown slightly loosened up from surprise.

“You told me at the very beginning that you wanted to be a petty official and live peacefully and easily until the troubled times came to a close.”

“I… I did say that.” Xu Shu said as she lowered her head but then immediately raised it to look at the girl with a renewed frown, “But I never knew it would end like that.”

“You didn’t knew? It was clear that–”

“Let me ask you, did you know that Cao Cao would transfer my mother?” Xu Shu interrupted the girl again, making pout and frown slightly. But when met with this question, the girl had to think twice before finally replying.

“I knew.”

*Dang*!

Xu Shu could no longer keep a lid on her anger and her fist landed heavily on the table.

“Then why did you have me look for Liu Bei! Why didn’t you tell me about what would happen afterwards?!” Xu Shu roared to the point where she even hurt her throat and lost her voice.

“I always… I always thought that Lord Liu Bei’s side would be the place I would remain till the very end…” Xu Shu lamented weakly as she crumpled to the ground with her hands on the table.

When she saw Xu Shu like this, the girl got up and left the table.

“I should indeed apologise for this but there are some things which you know I can’t say too much about.” The girl said and placed her hand on Xu Shu’s back after a moment’s hesitation as she slowly continued, “Yuan Zhi, what I can tell you is that once you go to the Cao faction, you can realise your dream of a comfortable life as a petty official.”

“Un…” Xu Shu slowly looked up. It was clear that she was still unable to accept this but then she suddenly squeezed out a smile, “Hai… If I was full of ambitions and dreams back then, would the outcome have been different?”

“… Perhaps.” The girl said even though she did not think there would be any substantial difference in the outcome.

“But I never expected that what you told me would come true.” Xu Shu sighed to calm herself down and continued, “I initially took what you said with a pinch of salt but now it does seem like you do know stuff about the future.”

“Ah… So you didn’t actually believe me huh…” The girl said as she frowned.

“I-I did believe it for the most part…” Xu Shu stammered when she realised what she had just let slip.

“… That’s fine.” The little said dismissively and tidied her clothing as she looked at Xu Shu with a serious expression, “What else is there? You wouldn’t have come to look for me just to vent your frustrations and blame me right?”

“Un,” Xu Shu nodded as she blinked, “Yes I can forget about all this but there is something I would like to ask of you.”

“Go ahead and say it.” The girl said as she swung her large sleeves and waited for Xu Shu to speak.

Xu Shu then saluted the girl and got down on 1 knee.

“Yuan Zhi what’re you–”

“Earlier, I’d recommended your name to Liu Yuzhou before I left. I don’t care if I have to leave but there is no one by his side right now who can help to craft strategies on a grand scale for him.” Xu Shu looked up at the girl who was rather surprised as she said this before continuing, “Teacher is a great talent and knows of what will happen in the future. If Lord Liu Bei really does come to seek you out to join him, I hope you will not refuse! If any disaster should come to him, please help him avert it!”

“Hai… Didn’t I tell you not to tell him about it…” The girl sighed, “What difference is there between me and a sacrificial lamb now?”

“…” Xu Shu did not speak and remained in this position with her head lowered. As the girl looked at Xu Shu, she sighed again.

“Never mind, forget it.” She said as she shook her head, “I won’t pursue this matter but don’t worry about Liu Bei. I have my own considerations. Get up.”

Only when she heard these words did Xu Shu slowly get up, “I understand what Teacher means. This is just me doing my last bit for Xuan De.”

The way she addressed him changed again huh? She’s been changing how she addressed him an awful lot in this short conversation. I guess she really likes him huh?

These were the girl’s thoughts yet she did not feel especially guilty about what she had done. As she had said, Xu Shu could indeed live a peaceful and easy life in the Cao faction. As for her ambitions, these are mostly impossible.

“Ah, yes, I have a question for Teacher.”

The girl looked at Xu Shu’s back feeling somewhat surprised that she still had more to say.

“What?”

“Even though a lot of what you told me did come to fruition why were there so many deviations, especially towards the end?”
