Chapter 4
VOLUME 10 CHAPTER 4: DON’T TELL ME THIS IS THE CALM AFTER THE BATTLE OF FAN CITY (4)

Liu Bei POV

Let’s just leave things as they are for now, I thought and sighed as I saluted Yi De and smiled, “If it weren’t for Yi De, I would have been slain long ago. So many thanks for that!”

“Ah…” Yi De uttered but did not say anything and sank into silence for a long while before she gave a simple, “No need for thanks.”

I looked up and saw that she looked troubled but managed to eke out a smile. At this, I too smiled at her, “Well then…”

As I made my way to the doorway, I turned back and looked at Yi De who smiled and waved. Though I have gotten used to this kind of Yi De for a while now, I am beginning to feel something else about her.

Has she awakened my paternal instinct? No no no, that’s impossible. Besides, this Yi De is a lot more mature than before she lost her memories.

I smiled at her and nodded before rus.h.i.+ng out of the room. I was very reluctant to leave but I did not want to entertain that half-joke thought I just had any further.

After I left and closed the door, I walked over to Yuan Zhi’s room with wide strides. The noises we heard before should have come from Yuan Zhi’s room. It could be from Hua Tuo’s subordinates who had come to do a periodic check on Yuan Zhi or it could be…

“Yuan Zhi?” I called out as I knocked on the door impatiently. Even so, there was no response from anyone inside the room. This is…

“Yuan Zhi? Yuan Zhi, are you there?” I called out loudly once more. If Yuan Zhi has not woken up, this might affect her recovery but if it was not Yuan Zhi or Hua Tuo’s subordinate, then who could it be?

I began to feel a little afraid when I thought of this and was about to knock again when I saw that the door was unlocked. The impulse to just charge in rose but when I thought about what had happened just now with Yi De, I began to feel afraid.

Screw it.

“Yuan Zhi, I’m coming in!”

But the circ.u.mstances are different. There are reasons which warrant extraordinary measures here. And so, I lightly pushed the door open and went in. However, this door was much lighter and its hinges were smoother so my light push was sufficient to make it slam against the wall. And when it opened, the sight of Yuan Zhi lying face down and motionless on the ground greeted me.

“Yuan Zhi!” I yelled as I ran over and helped her up.

When I looked about, I saw that the room was in a mess and many things were scattered about, Yuan Zhi’s gourd amongst them. This cannot be the work of Hua Tuo and her subordinates. The only thing I can think of is foul play at work here.

“Yuan Zhi, wake up.” I said anxiously as I shook her shoulders.

“… Un~” Yuan Zhi groaned in response. But this was enough, I thought as I heaved a sigh of relief.

“Hang on, Yuan Zhi.” I said softly as I carried her up with ease and set her down on the bed.

Yuan Zhi was much lighter than I thought she was. In fact, this probably applies to all the girls here. Even though they are so strong, their weights still seem to be the same as any ordinary girl. This really surprises me and I have no idea how this works.

“Un~ Un~” Yuan Zhi groaned and looked like she was in pain with her eyes closed when I set her down on the bed.

“Yuan Zhi…” I called out, feeling worried and anxious but unsure what I could do.

“… Un?” Just as I thinking about my next steps, Yuan Zhi slowly opened her eyes and looked at me, “… Xuan D

e?”

“Yuan Zhi.” I called out and I knelt down beside her. I do not know what happened but I am beginning to panic seeing Yuan Zhi like this, “Yuan Zhi, what happened to you? And what happened in the room just now?”

“Ah… Un!” Yuan Zhi seemed to relax for a moment but when her head moved, she frowned and groaned in pain again.

“What happened?”

“… My head hurts.” Yuan Zhi said as she rubbed her temple.

Her head hurts?

“Ah…” I immediately calmed down and asked, “Do you feel like the world is swirling about you?”

Yuan Zhi nodded.

“… I see.”

What the heck! She’s just having a hangover! I yelled inside. Naturally, I did not actually yell out and merely sighed. I should have guessed it. There’s no way she’s feeling well after drinking so much. But why is her hangover so delayed? It’s been a few days since she has drunk after all. Is it because she was unconscious?

But why is the room so messy…

“Water…” She moaned as she pointed at me.

Naturally, I knew she was not pointing at me but behind me and scooted over before looking around and found that she was pointing at the gourd on the floor. Ah, so that’s what happened huh?

“So Yuan Zhi woke up with a terrible headache and tried to get up and get her gourd. But she was shaky on her feet and fell over, knocking over the stuff on the table.”

“…” Yuan Zhi nodded wordlessly.

“Hu.” I sighed and felt relieved as I went to pick up the gourd, not forgetting to check that it was actually water and not liquor before handing it to her, “Here, Yuan Zhi, get up and drink.”

I held her back and helped her up before biting off the cap and bringing the gourd to her mouth.

*Gudu*… *Gudu*…

As I tilted the gourd, Yuan Zhi drank and continued drinking for a long while, finis.h.i.+ng most of the gourd’s contents before she stopped.

“Haa…” She sighed as she moved away from the gourd, looking better than before.

“How do you feel now?”

“Better.” Yuan Zhi replied as she nodded, “This medicinal liquid is rather effective.”

“Un? Medicinal liquid?” I was surprised and took a whiff from the mouth of the gourd and the faint smell of herbs entered my nostrils, “This is?”

“Lord Hua Tuo gave me this.” Yuan Zhi said, “I woke up this morning when Lord Hua Tuo was changing my clothes for me. When I told her that my head hurt, she brought me this gourd which she said contained hangover medication and told me to drink some whenever my head hurt.”

‘Some’? You just drank almost the entire gourd?

But I have to say that I did not expect Hua Tuo would know how to make something like this. If I know the recipe, can I manufacture it when I return to my era and make big bucks?
