VOLUME 7 CHAPTER 26: DON’T TELL ME THIS IS MY ARRIVAL AT JING STATE (1)

Liu Bei POV

For the past few days, all I can remember is being puking and being seasick, all in all being really unsightly. As I turned around while holding on to the handrails, I found that I could see the sh.o.r.e in the distance.

Is that… Jing state? I blinked a few times before taking a closer look, afraid that what I saw was a mirage.

Though it was some distance away, I could see the waves slapping the cliffs, and on top of the cliffs were patches of rich greenery. It wasn’t much different from scenery I’d seen before. What was different was that there was a layer of mist, which made it seem like a mystic realm.

For a landlubber like me, it’s best to be back on land.

“We’re finally reaching our destination. I feel like the smell of vomit has stuck onto me after living with you for these few day.”

I turned around and saw Zhang Zhao standing there. She walked over as she dragged her long sleeves with a look of disdain. As she stepped over, she would bend her body about, as though she were trying to put on a show of elegance, but that was probably just to avoid the splatter from the incoming waves.

“I’m really sorry about it.” I was already used to her snide remarks, and just obediently lowered my head and accepted fault. She didn’t seem to be used to this reaction, and gave a ‘hmph’ before turning away and looking in the direction of the sh.o.r.e.

By the way, Huang Gai dropped off midway at Chaisang.

Seems like there were some issues with reinforcements on the frontlines and Huang Gai was sent there to sort things out. Compared to us carefree wanderers, Jiangdong has been diligently expanding its territories.

And so, the responsibility of commanding this flotilla fell squarely onto Zhang Zhao. Compared to Huang Gai, Zhang Zhao was a lot more meticulous and she paid attention to every single detail. Though you could say that she was a bit of a bother, her instructions were clear and easy to follow so everyone got used to it very quickly and no trouble occurred.

During this time, she was either really busy or unwilling to speak to me so I haven’t been able to interact much with her.

But now that we were approaching the short, she actually took the initiative and approached me.

“It’s been hard on you, Lord Zhang Zhao.” I said some good words first as I bowed.

“You can spare me the pleasantries. I’m just here to say farewell to Imperial Uncle out of courtesy’s sake. We probably won’t meet again after all.” She cut me off and continued, “I’m also here to give you some words of warning out of honour. When you get to Jiangxia, don’t be too conspicuous. Don’t say that you have good relations with Jiangdong either, and just occupy yourselves with merrymaking there. Only make a decision after 1-2 months.”

“Eh? This is…”

“Don’t ask any further.” She extended a finger, and seemed like she wanted to put it to my lips but when she realised she couldn’t reach, she pointed at me instead, “I know how that Governor of Jing state thinks and acts. Just do as I say.”

“Ah, un.” I lightly nodded. I don’t understand what she said but I’ll keep that in mind.

Zhang Zhao didn’t continue any further when she saw this, and turned around to head back to the deck.

“Lord Zhang Zhao, what are your plans after you return?” I don’t know why, but I stopped Zhang Zhao and blurted this.

Zhang Zhao seemed like she was on guard at first but she closed her eyes and relaxed, “Leaving aside everything else, just thinking about how I need to be on guard against Cao Cao is vexing enough. This is rather different from the carefree Imperial Uncle right?”

Wu… Yet another snide remark.

“Big brother, we should be reaching soon. Should we get the troops to pack up and get resdy to disembark?” Just then, Yun Chang came over and asked me. When she saw Zhang Zhao, she bowed and saluted.

“In any case, you should watch out for yourself, Imperial Uncle.” When she saw someone else come over, Zhang Zhao seemed like she didn’t want to say any further and shook her sleeves before heading back inside.

I looked at Zhang Zhao’s back, and for some reason, I couldn’t feel any ill will from her. Her words are always offensive but it feels like it wouldn’t be Zhang Zhao if they were’t.

“Big brother?”

“Un? Un un, let’s go with that then.” I only snapped out of it and remembered that Yun Chang was seeking instructions from me when she asked again, and hurriedly nodded.

“Un,” Yun Chang nodded, and waited for a moment, before she poke again with a difficult expression, “Big brother, Yi De hasn’t shown any sign of recovery.”

“Un, I know.”

From what I can remember, this is the first time Yun Chang is saying this to me ever since Yi De lost her memories. Before this, she has been working hard, trying to help Yi De regain her lose memories. But that hasn’t worked.

I know, Yun Chang is approaching her limit.

“I know.” I repeated once more, as I didn’t have any words to comfort Yun Chang with, and this was the truth after all.

“… Sorry.” She hurriedly apologised, perhaps because she felt bad from what she saw on my face.

“No…” I wanted to deny it, but Yun Chang had already left.

I felt the same way as Yun Chang did, but even if we understood how each other felt, it wouldn’t help alleviate the pain in the least.

By the way, Yun Chang is also from the north but she doesn’t seem to be having an issue with being at sea like me.
