Nuptial Chamber Next Door Chapter 22

The feeling in the morning after a hard night of drinking and indulgence cannot be imagined. I had a splitting headache, my stomach was heaving, my whole body was sore and worn out

When I opened my eyes, the first thing that caught my eye was the light green curtains. The curtains were closed tight without a single gap

A warm feeling crept up in the bottom of my hear

Because only in Ye Zhengchen's room would there be such light green curtains and those curtains would be closed regardless of how dark the night outside was

I remember when he had hurt his hand and I had cleaned the room, I had opened the curtains allowing the afternoon sun to come into his room

He had immediately pulled back the curtains.

I asked him why

" I am use to this", he said.

" Is it your habit not to see the light?"

He laughed, his narrowed eyes , his gaze excessively lascivious. " I am accustomed to doing things that are done in the dark"

If I wasn't convinced he was joking, I would have been scared enough to run away.

At that point, how would I know that one day I would wake up in his room..

Looking around the room, I saw Ye Zhengchen sitting in front of his computer looking at something in j.a.panese. His right hand was on the mouse. He didn't slide the mouse, but his fingers kept tapping on the mouse in a slow and rhythmical manner.

I used the bed frame as support to slowly sit up so as not to disturb Ye Zhengchen

Since his enrolment in April, Professor Tanaka had put in a lot of pressure on him - lab practice, reading data, publis.h.i.+ng research reports, he didn't have time to take a breath

Ye Zhengchen had never complained, never shown any irritability. No matter how many tasks the professor gave him, he was always on his most perfect behaviour.

But I knew he was tired.

As I pulled the quilt, the noise caught Ye Zhengchen's attention.

" You woke up", Ye Zhengchen looked at me. He took half a cup of tea and walked over to the bed. Then he gently reached out to caress my forehead.

"Is any part of your body uncomfortable?"

I pulled the quilt, covering my bare feet.

" My whole body hurts"

" Drink this". He handed the tea to me

I drank it. It was bitter and very sour. With my years of medical experience I knew it was not an ordinary tea.

" Is this some sort of medicine?"

"Yes, for hangover and body aches"

He coaxed me softly, in the same way as one coaxes a child. I took a gulp and swallowed the whole thing

If he used the same att.i.tude with this patients, let alone bitter medicine, I wouldn't be surprised if they even drank a.r.s.enic knowingly for him.

Many people did not believe that Ye Zhengchen and I were in a formal relations.h.i.+p, including Qin Xue

That's because Ye Zhengchen drove his BMW to the laboratory every day as usual, while I braved the sun to ride my second hand bike to work everyday

This was not because Ye Zhengchen was heartless, nor because I was hypocritical.

If Ye Zhengchen were to drop me to school, that would, ofcourse make me very happy. We were both very busy, and we went off work at different times. If we were to go together and come back together , we would naturally spend our free time together

But I did not like to be bound to spend every minute together, nor did I want to bind someone to me

Ye Zhengchen had also pointed out a wine red Mercedez Benz to me. He asked me if I liked it, his easy tone the same as when he has asked me if I liked the Rolex couple watch.

" I won't drive", I told him honestly

" I will drop you to school"

"Please spare me", I said, "I am too lazy, I can't tell one direction from another,I will get lost in the campus if I don't get my bike."

Without allowing him the time to refute, I continued, "A bike is not bad. It is environment friendly. You don't have to worry about traffic jams, its a good exercise and also prevents me getting fat."

Sometimes I come back with Brother Feng and Ling Ling, happily laughing and talking together all the way

Bicycles do have lots of advantages, except on rainy days

And as j.a.pan is an island, there will inevitably be rain from time to time.

A few days later, when I was coming back to the apartment , I was caught in a sudden thunderstorm. The rain came harder and harder, till I was forced to take shelter in a Mercedes franchise store.

I was trembling as I crouched in the leeward corner, complaining about the weather in j.a.pan and cursing the country to submerge in the sea as soon as possible. At this time, one of the service staff came out and politely asked me if I wanted to get in.

I looked down at the wet shoes in my feet and then looked at the plush red carpet through the French windows and politely bowed to him.

" Thank you very much, I am fine here"

I watched the staff go in and the wine red Mercedes benz in the show room. With luxurious metallic paint, soft curves it really looked gorgeous.

In such lighting, it looked way better than my second hand bke.
