Charlotte's bottom lips quivered. She looked at me with panic and scurried quickly out of the room like a rabbit. My heart went out to her.

I plopped into one of the chairs in a very unladylike fas.h.i.+on and Caeden sat down beside me. I leaned conspiratorially across the table towards Bryce like we were sharing a very important secret.

"Bryce," I said sweetly.

"Yes," he said leaning across towards me. I felt like we were spies planning some king of mission.

"Go after her," I said sweetly and twisted my head to the side.

"Why?" he ground out thickly through his teeth. "She doesn't like me."

"She doesn't know your feelings there's a difference," I said.

Bryce flicked his floppy hair towards Logan who stood by the table broodingly. "She likes that jerk not me."

"You have to show her that you're worth noticing," I said. "If you like her, prove it," I said.

"That's not fair," he said.

"Life's not fair," I countered. "Just go talk to her. Ask her if she's okay? Ask her if she wants to leave or stay and dance with you? Trust me, she'll want to stay and dance with you. I'm not telling you to confess your undying love for her, Bryce."

He narrowed his eyes at me and stood. "Fine, I'll go find her and when she completely ignores me it'll be your fault."

"We'll see," I said leaning back in the chair with a grin.

He shook his head and disappeared out into the lobby of the hotel in search of Charlotte.

"That was hot," said Caeden with a grin.

"What was?" I asked puzzled.

"You," he said, "being all determined matchmaker."

"I just want to see people who deserve to be happy find that," I shrugged my shoulders.

"You're really good at picking up on unsaid things," he said.

I sighed and looked down at the table I traced random patterns on the white linen with my pinky finger. "Before I found out about being a s.h.i.+fter and the...uh...no college rule I wanted to be a therapist. I like to help people find their way."

"You amaze me more every day," he said. He pondered something for a moment. "Maybe you should still go to college," he said.

I sighed. "You're the one that said s.h.i.+fters don't go to college. Our job is to serve and protect."

"That's true," he said, "but maybe it's time we do more than that. I hate to see you lose out on your future and like I told you before the rest of the pack and I would like to go to college too. I mean, we couldn't go away for college, we'd have to go to the community college but it would still be an education."

I smiled. "Do you mean that? Can I really go?"

He nodded his head and smiled hugely. "We're going to college!"

I squealed and jumped into his lap throwing my arms around him. I kissed him soundly on the lips. I didn't care who saw. Teachers beware. "Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love you!"

He laughed. "Wow, it really doesn't take a lot to make you happy," he said and his eyes crinkled.

"Nope, it doesn't," I said. "I am a simple girl."

He chuckled. "You are far from a simple girl. You're amazing, not simple."

"We'll agree to disagree then," I said as Logan, having apparently decided the coast was clear, took his seat again.

"Dance with me," said Caeden brus.h.i.+ng his lips against mine. His body was tensed for a fight.

"Yes!" I said enthusiastically surprising him. After the news I had just received I thought nothing could bring me down from my high. I climbed off of his lap and he led me to the dance floor.

Some kind of upbeat European song was playing. I didn't exactly know how to dance to it but then again I didn't know how to dance to any kind of song. Fast or slow so I just rolled with it.

"'Can you spend a little time, time is slipping away, away from us so stay, stay with me I can make, make you glad you came. The sun goes down. The stars come out. And all that counts, is here and now. My universe will never be the same. I'm glad you came. I'm glad you came,'" played the song.

Caeden began dancing expertly to the music and soon he had me swaying to it too.

He grinned as he listened to the lyrics. "I'm glad you came," he said into my ear so I could hear him over the music.

"Me too," I admitted. "I never thought I'd be happy I came to prom but with you... Yeah, I'm glad I came," I grinned.

"Success!" he joked. "She admitted it!"

I laughed and smacked his arm.

The song finished and switched to something slower. Caeden pulled me against his body and moved us slowly to the sway and beat of the song. Across from us I saw Bentley holding Chris in a similar pose. I hoped they got together. They were as perfect for each other as Caeden and I were.

Over my shoulder I saw Bryce and Charlotte come back into the ballroom. He was holding her hand and led her out onto the dance floor. I wanted to do a little happy dance but I settled for grinning like a fool as a constellation prize. Bryce held her tentatively in his arms. He caught my eye and grinned. He then gave me a thumbs up behind Charlotte's back. I smiled. My work was done for the night.

I laid my head against Caeden's chest. Its steady beat and the heat he always carried calmed me. I didn't think life could get more perfect than this moment.

epilogue. travis.

"You b.a.s.t.a.r.d," I ground out through my teeth.

My father grinned at me. "She was useless. Just like you. Who would want you as a son you worthless piece of s.h.i.+t!" he spat blood on me.

I narrowed my eyes. He was pus.h.i.+ng his limit. My hands curled into fists as I tried to block the red haze from my eyes. I could feel my veins engorging with blood as my adrenaline spiked. I hated this man more than I hated life itself. But he had something I wanted and I was just about to get it. I twisted my neck from side to side to relieve some of the tension coursing through my body. I was like a live wire ready to ignite at the slightest provocation.

"You really shouldn't have said that," I growled in a deadly calm.

My dad's eyes narrowed to calculated slits.

"You wouldn't dare," he hissed.

"Oh, I would father," I said and lunged the silver made knife that I had hidden in my pocket, straight through his heart. I twisted it to make sure it hit home.

His eyes widened in shock. Shock and astonishment.

"Sleep tight papa wolf," I said with a smile.

He took a last gurgling breath, blood spilling from his lips, and finally the b.a.s.t.a.r.d died.

I grinned and then licked his blood off the knife. It was done. He was dead. It had been so much easier than I thought it would be. I had wanted a fight and had not received one. I was disappointed to say the least.

I bent down and cut a hole through his plain t-s.h.i.+rt and then used the knife to dig out his heart. Satisfied, I thrust the knife through the door of the shed with his heart attached to it still dripping with his warm blood.

Joy.

That was the emotion I felt seeing his heart pinned to the door like a sacrifice. Its sticky dark rivulets dripped satisfyingly down the door.

I turned and sauntered into the woods not bothering to glance back at the man that was my father. He deserved no pity.

I shed my clothes and s.h.i.+fted into my wolf form. I felt stronger than I ever had before. Unstoppable.

I howled into the night to call my pack.

My pack, I thought smugly, to call and let them know that there was a new Alpha in town.

Yes, I Travis Grimm now had what I desired most.

I was Alpha.

Things were about to get interesting.

I smelled the scent of bloodshed nearing. I sincerely hoped it was Caeden's.

I howled once more in victory and ran off into the moonlight.

This book was so much fun to write. I truly love Caeden and Sophie's story. I had been working on it for a long time. Like years and just couldn't get anywhere with it. Then one day I sat down with my notebook and planned it out. A month later I had finished the book. My fingers just couldn't seem to fly across the keyboard fast enough. I have begun working on the second book in the series but there is no release date as of yet.

I hope you enjoyed reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it!.
