Startled by Xia Wan’s voice, he glanced up, then confusion flickered across his face. “Have we met before?”
Xia Wan couldn’t hide her irritation at this response. “I’m asking what you’re doing in the teacher’s office,” she reiterated firmly.
Jiang Lu seemed to relish the opportunity to play around. “I thought I’d sneak in and steal the exam papers while the teacher’s away!”
Xia Wan, unperturbed by his nonchalant response, advised, “The teachers are in a meeting. If you have nothing to do, you’d better not linger here for too long.”
“Why can’t I be here if you can?” Jiang Lu questioned, showing no concern.
Refusing to engage further, Xia Wan gathered her marked papers and headed toward the exit. Since her academic performance had significantly improved, teachers from various subjects were eager to recruit her as their subject representative. Consequently, her form teacher had a.s.signed her the role of cla.s.s study committee member.
As Xia Wan approached the office door, Jiang Lu intercepted her. “Hey, cla.s.smate, why are you leaving like that?”
“I still have something to ask you.”
“Can’t I seek your advice? I don’t know how to be a thief!” Xia Wan quipped, lightly pus.h.i.+ng Jiang Lu aside before departing.
Jiang Lu rubbed his slightly bruised arm but couldn’t help but smile.
Walking back to her cla.s.sroom with frustration, Xia Wan encountered Liu Hua near the entrance. He immediately approached her, concerned. “What’s wrong? Who got you so worked up?”
Setting her papers on her desk, Xia Wan pulled Liu Hua back to his seat. “It’s nothing. I spotted a suspicious individual—a thief!”
“A thief? Where is the thief?” Liu Hua inquired, his eyes wide. “Is there a thief in the school? Did someone lose something? Should we call the police?”
Xia Wan quickly gestured for him to lower his voice. “Nothing was stolen, and there’s no need to involve the police. I just saw someone sneaking around the teacher’s office.”
‘Who was it?” Liu Hua asked, intrigued.
Ordinarily, students avoided the teacher’s office as much as possible. Who would dare to sneak in?
“It’s that new transfer student,” Xia Wan said, her tone tinged with disdain.
“You saw the new transfer student? I heard he’s quite good-looking!” Liu Hua exclaimed with antic.i.p.ation.
Xia Wan pursed her lips; she had no interest in sly and young guys like him.
As they chatted, Jiang Lu suddenly appeared at the cla.s.sroom door.
Some students recognized him and asked, “Transfer student, who are you looking for?”
Without hesitation, Jiang Lu introduced himself with a friendly smile, “I’m Jiang Lu. I’m looking for the girl from your cla.s.s who was holding the papers just now.”
Everyone’s gaze landed on Xia Wan. She squinted at Jiang Lu, her expression intimidating.
However, Jiang Lu raised the two papers he held with a flattering grin. “Hey, you dropped these. I’m here to return them to their rightful owner.”
