Chapter 2
Intern Overlord
After the twenty-third century, due to the flouris.h.i.+ng development of A.I. technology, many renewable energy sources were realized. This, in addition to the population of humanity being planned for and controlled by the D-Planet Federation, resources were no longer as tight as before. Hence, under this situation, the exploration and probe of humanity with regards to outer s.p.a.ce was also no longer as fervent as in the past.
It was to the extent whereby the various temporary bases on Mars would be empty throughout the year. Map exploration had also become pa.s.sive. Under the relaxed conditions, no one discovered that a base at a certain location on Mars was silently fixed up and decorated.
The cold electronic voice of an A.I. in that base rang out, “Reporting to Overlord. The energy conversion device has been installed, the probing unit has been a.s.sembled, and the essence element extractor is mounted. Right now, we only need a batch of well-trained miners, and we will be able to start organizing them to mine the Fire Ant Mine!”
And the only living thing in the base, the imposingly handsome Overlord, now had a helpless look on his face as he sat on the ground. “Where’s the manpower? Where’s the unending flow of subjects?”
“Overlord, please be patient. According to the rules of humanity’s market, four hours is needed to test a game properly. And after the test, the product would also need a certain amount of time to ‘ferment’ after entering the market.”
“Is this idea really workable?” The Overlord had a look of doubt on his face.
“With the simple and crude conditions Overlord has given me, I’m unable to compute any other methods that can work!”
The handsome face of the Overlord twitched slightly when he heard this, but he couldn’t say a single sentence to rebut.
The simple and crude conditions he provided were truly his current most embarra.s.sing problem.
His name was Xiye Aldia. He was an intern overlord that graduated from one of the Deity Universities in the Great Cosmos Federation. Although he managed to successfully graduate and obtain the lineage of a deity and should, by right, gain the qualifications to be an interstellar overlord according to the rules of the great federation, because the amount of resources he had was limited, he couldn’t compete with the other intern overlords that graduated from the same batch as him!
For his peers, they had either enough financial ability or powerful backgrounds to support them. When they were recruiting interstellar subjects, their power to rally people to join was extremely great. What about him? Back then, for the sake of his own evolution, he had exhausted all the resources of his clan. After he graduated, he wasn’t even able to afford to purchase a ninth-grade inferior planet. This led to his current situation: it was now extraordinarily difficult for him to recruit subjects to join him!
One must know that if the environment of a planet was of poor quality, the probability of recruiting elite subjects would naturally be diminished. The Great Federation used a two-way choice system. With better conditions out there offered by others, what capabilities did you have to attract others to work for you in your lousy planet?
Ninth-grade planets were places where even the lowest-graded dark goblins would be unwilling to live in. Xiye had once asked a dark goblin before, wanting to recruit it to work on a ninth-grade planet. However, the payment the goblin requested was $30 deity dollars per month…what joke was that? When he was in school, his monthly expenses were also only $30 deity dollars!!
Even for a rubbish planet like that, he could only depend on his ident.i.ty as a student from a Deity University to get a loan for it. Although a few corporations were willing to provide a loan for an intern like him, the interest they quoted would be so high that it would frighten people to death. In the situation where all his options were exhausted, Xiye chose to buy a s.p.a.ces.h.i.+p. He started to use the most common method of poor overlords – to find a new star system with life by exploration!
This was like one of the methods that had completely no guarantees. Those overlords who had the slightest financial ability would never choose to do this. The universe was too vast, and star systems with life were pathetically few in number. Many overlords who had chosen this path couldn’t even find a star system with life and died of old age after spending all their lives in exploration.
But he was very lucky. He drifted around in the universe for less than ten thousand years and managed to discover a wormhole that led to the milky way galaxy by chance. He then managed to find D-Planet, this azure-blue beautiful planet!
Its structure was perfect, regardless of its atmosphere, geomorphology, moisture, and other aspects, they were all extremely superior. If it was graded, it would at least be a seventh-grade planet.
Seventh-grade! In their Cosmos Federation, the price of any seventh-grade planet would at least be a hundred times that of a ninth-grade planet. Also, there was demand but no supply. In the black market, even if you used two ninth-grade planets to trade for a seventh-grade one, most probably there wouldn’t be anyone willing to make the trade!
Not only so, but the several planets revolving around this solar system also had a very high development value. As long as they were developed properly, they would all be eighth-grade life planets!
This was simply a perfect opening!!!
But after discovering this place, the first place he wanted to conquer was D-Planet!
According to the laws of the Cosmos Federation, interstellar overlords had the authority to colonize unknown planets that were not part of the federation’s territory. They also had the authority to ma.s.sacre civilizations that were not a part of the Cosmos Federation. This law was set to encourage overlords to explore the universe and set up their bases out there. Frankly speaking, it was to trick this bunch of poor interns like him to do exploration!
But after Xiye calmed down, he discovered a problem!
He seemed…
Not to have the ability to conquer this planet…
When he first bought the s.p.a.ces.h.i.+p, all his money was spent on basic infrastructure, collapsible-type primitive base vehicles, all sorts of element extractors, excellent quality life specimens, and some basic materials. As for weapons, he could only deploy the cheapest compression cannons!
Because right at the start, he had never expected that he would be able to find a planet with a complete civilization system. Before this, the best expectation in his heart was that he would be able to find a ninth-grade planet that was near to self-combustion. After that, he would use the materials in the s.h.i.+p to slowly modify the environment, placing the life specimens on the planet and slowly forming a more complete biological food chain before guiding some of the excellent life specimens for evolution. He would then do his best to make intelligent lifeforms evolve within ten thousand years…
This was already his original best estimation. Thus, he didn’t expect he would be so lucky to accidentally discover a completely mature life star system with over billions of intelligent lifeforms!
This sort of treasure trove was something he had never expected to encounter. It seemed like it wasn’t a waste for him to transport the feces of those goblins from such a long way over!
However, what’s embarra.s.sing was that there was a huge treasure trove before him but he had no way to open it!
This civilization was inclined to materialism and had a complete guided missile system. Just with a single universal s.p.a.ces.h.i.+p that could equip a compression cannon and his initial-level divine strength, it was impossible for him to conquer the entire planet alone!
He felt extremely embarra.s.sed that he couldn’t beat them…
After three months of observation, he and the A.I. system that came together with his s.p.a.ces.h.i.+p had calculated a total of 17 million methods of attack. Among them, there were even methods where he had to infiltrate the political system to gain control. However, the success rate was all below 20%…
Could it be he had to send signals and inform the Federation about this planet to gain some resources?
Although information about such a planet could definitely fetch him a great amount of resources, he still felt reluctance in his heart. He was reluctant to lose this opportunity of having this planet that was on the verge of rising!
And just when he was incomparably anxious, the A.I. of the s.p.a.ces.h.i.+p suggested a method with a higher chance of success rate.
This game model known as [Star Ocean] was a plan to con the ma.s.ses to provide him with manpower. Under the eyes of the D-Planet Federation, he would then silently develop his own power!
And this method was to exploit the D-Planet’s virtual game network that recently became extremely popular!
“Overlord, please note that the transfer device has been activated. There are three lifeforms currently being transferred!”
Xiye was startled when he heard this. He hurriedly stood up and wore his helmet as he roared at the humans sent here via the transfer device. “Welcome to [Star Ocean]. Come, sign the contract and become a subject under the authority of the n.o.ble and imposing Overlord Xiye!”
