Usually, office workers only have one day off for New Year’s Day, but students often have three or four days off.

So on the second day after New Year’s Day, Bai Xunyin was summoned back to the research inst.i.tute by the director. There wasn’t much to do in the inst.i.tute, as it was the busiest time before and after the New Year.

The director just wanted her to prepare and bring along some interns to do some basic experimental teaching.

“Interns?” 

Bai Xunyin was a little surprised after hearing this, and asked her female colleague from the same department, Luo Yan, “It’s almost Chinese New Year… Will there still be interns coming to the inst.i.tute?”

“What interns? Our research inst.i.tute doesn’t just take in anyone. These are all arranged in advance by leaders from prestigious universities, sending some master’s and doctoral students over for interns.h.i.+p experience—hm, after all, the experience in our inst.i.tute is quite valuable.”

Luo Yan bit into her ribs with a crunch, speaking fiercely. “Bai Bai, I think you’re wasting your time dealing with them. Out of the seven or eight interns, only one is somewhat serious. What’s his name again… Right, Sheng Jianian, Xiao Sheng is still okay.”

Hearing this, Bai Xunyin paused with her chopsticks, her brows faintly furrowed as she responded with a noncommittal “Hmm.”

In fact, she didn’t care at all about the evaluations of these arrogant students, but Sheng Jianian really gave her a headache.

“Then how should I address you?”

Bai Xunyin said mercilessly, “Just call me by my name.”

“That won’t do, it’s impolite. After all, you’re always my senior sister, or my… teacher.” 

When it came to the word ‘teacher,’ Sheng Jianian deliberately lowered his voice, adding a hint of ambiguity, as if flirting. 

“How about I call you teacher?”

Bai Xunyin felt that Sheng Jianian must thank her for her patience; otherwise, she would not be able to stop herself from scolding him.

Taking a deep breath, she furrowed her delicate brows, stood up, and turned away.

For such a ‘clingy ghost’ like Sheng Jianian, it seemed that only a cold treatment would work.

You couldn’t directly refuse anything—because he hadn’t confessed to you at all. He was just like a little ghost, hovering around you openly and using writing papers as an excuse, thinking he could barge in and take over.

But Bai Xunyin felt it was time to wake him up.

When she got back, she picked up her phone from the table and sent a WeChat message to Yu Luoyin, asking if he had time to pick her up after work.

Bai Xunyin rarely took such initiative, probably because she happened to catch Yu Luoyin in a leisurely time as he replied almost instantly.

Even from the text, you could sense a hint of teasing. 

[What’s up? Miss me?]

This guy was narcissistic in his daily life, but there was nothing wrong with indulging him a little.

Bai Xunyin replied expressionlessly.

Yu Luoyin replied. [I’m sure you do.]

With him saying that, it probably meant he didn’t have surgery and didn’t need to work overtime. Bai Xunyin felt relieved and put her phone away.

When it was time to get off work, sure enough, Bai Xunyin saw Sheng Jianian secretly observing her progress in packing up and waiting to leave with her.

He had been doing this for several days in a row.

But today, instead of pulling Luo Yan along to take the subway to avoid him, Bai Xunyin walked out of the research building’s gate alone, openly and confidently.

Yu Luoyin’s white Bentley parked outside the gate was particularly conspicuous.
