Chapter 238 - 238 The Fight For The Local Specialties, New Food!
238 The Fight For The Local Specialties, New Food!
When school started, in the boys’ dormitory at Oxford University.
Yang Bo was a local and was the first to arrive at the dormitory.
No one had used the dormitory for a month. The first thing he did when he returned was to open the windows to ventilate the room. The early spring wind was still a little cold. Yang Bo unpacked his things and sat for a while. He felt that he had nothing to do, so he wanted to tidy up the seats of the other three.
At this moment, Hao Yingqiang and Ali walked in with bags of things. Yang Bo threw down the broom in his hand and helped the two of them with their stuff.
“You’re finally here!” Yang Bo was really excited when he saw the two of them.
“What’s wrong?” Ali smiled. “A day apart feels like three years. Do you miss us so much?”
When Yang Bo saw the two of them, it was as if he had seen his family. He was extremely enthusiastic. He helped move things and was busy wiping the table with a smile on his face.
“That’s right! You don’t know how uncomfortable I’ve been at home!” Yang Bo smiled bitterly. “My mother cherished me for three days. Then, she was unhappy with everything about me and looked forward to my school reopening every day.”
Yang Bo was a local. When he had nothing to do, he would take a taxi back. During the end of the semester, he revised in school for an entire month. Yang Bo’s mother had not seen the child for a month, so her heart naturally ached.
However, it was a pity that the gentleness of a mother and the filial piety of a son did not last long. Soon, the house was in a tizzy. Yang Bo had nothing to do at home, so he looked forward to school reopening.
“It’s good that you guys can go home once every few months. Your Mom and Dad should be overjoyed, right?” Yang Bo looked at Hao Yingqiang and Ali enviously.
Hao Yingqiang laughed. “Forget it. My mother almost asked me to apply for cram school when she saw my results. I’m a university student, but she still wants me to go to cram school!”
His results last semester could be said to have just sc.r.a.ped through, and he was almost on the verge of taking the make-up test.
Hao Yingqiang arrived home before everyone else. When he opened the door, he did not receive his parents’ concern. Instead, he was grabbed and held a serious family meeting. He almost had an uneasy New Year.
The two of them looked at each other and sighed.
“Luo Feng’s life is still the best. Not only is he the number one in the entire Faculty, his Dad and Mom are also going on a trip.” Yang Bo gritted his teeth in envy. “He’s staying at his girlfriend’s house and even celebrating the New Year with her!”
Hao Yingqiang nodded enviously.
Ali looked at the empty bed and said, “Speaking of which, why isn’t Luo Feng here yet?”
“He said that he’s busy in Shanghai,” Hao Yingqiang said.
When he gave Luo Feng a New Year greeting, he chatted with him a little more and knew that Luo Feng had gone to Shanghai.
The three of them knew that Luo Feng had businesses, so it was reasonable for him to be busy during the New Year. The three of them did not pay much attention to it. They swept the floor and unpacked their things.
Hao Yingqiang suddenly took out a plastic oil bucket from his suitcase! There was a plastic bag on the outside, and a trace of sour and smelly smell floated out.
“What did you bring…” Yang Bo covered his nose and took two steps back in disdain. “What’s spoiled? It smells so strong!”
“This is my mother’s exclusive pickle. It’s salty and light and just right. It’s delicious! Try it!” Hao Yingqiang opened the lid and took out a pink radish. He took a bite of it.
“It’s very delicious!” Hao Yingqiang strongly recommended it!
“Alright, alright! Take it further…” Yang Bo really couldn’t stand the smell. “But this smell… You’d better cover it quickly, or the dormitory warden will come up and arrest you.”
The taste of the pickle was indeed very crispy, but the taste of the pickle was too strong. He refused to take a bite.
Ali took one and tasted it. He praised, “It tastes really good. You won’t feel that it’s salty even if you eat it directly. It’s delicious!”
“Isn’t it!” Hao Yingqiang said happily.
Ali turned around and took out a Vacuum bag from his luggage. He smiled and said, “Actually, I brought you local specialties too. Come and try them.”
“Is it meat?” Yang Bo’s eyes lit up.
“That’s right. My mother made it too.”
“Meat is good.” Yang Bo was filled with joy and rubbed his hands as he waited.
When Ali unwrapped it, Yang Bo was stunned.
He held the vacuum bag and said, “What’s this? Leftover fish heads?”
The bag contained a few shriveled fish heads that were about the length of a thumb. They looked like kitchen waste left behind by a kitten.
“I’m sorry, I took the wrong one.” Ali took out another Vacuum bag from his bag. After opening it and pouring it in, he inserted a few fish heads in one after another.
“The Stargazy pie! Try it!” Ali brought it to the two of them.
Yang Bo could not stand the impactful smell of food. The moment he smelled the fishy smell, he almost did a somersault! He covered his nose and retreated to a corner of the dormitory.
“Oh my G.o.d, your local specialties are quite legendary! Have you eaten them?”
“This is my mother’s first time making it.” Ali chuckled. “I’ve been wanting to bring you something before I came. Later, I felt that the most famous thing is the Stargazy pie. This is a leap in my mother’s culinary skills! Try it!”
In other words, this was the first time Ali’s mother had made this Stargazy pie. Yang Bo felt that it might be the last time.
He was very touched but rejected it. “No need, no need. Help me thank Auntie. I don’t like fish.”
“It’s not good for your health to be picky,” Hao Yingqiang said. He took a piece of pie from the plate and ate it. He nodded and said, “It doesn’t taste bad. The fish is dry and fragrant!”
The two of them ate one piece at a time and could not stop eating. Perhaps it was because the food was more novel and the taste was richer. It looked darker on the outside, but the taste was actually really not bad.
“Yang Bo, are you really not eating? If you don’t eat, you won’t have a share.” Ali licked his fingers.
Yang Bo craned his neck to take a look and realized that there was still half of it on the plate. “Isn’t there still a lot? Can the two of you finish it?”
“I have to leave a few for Luo Feng,” Ali said.
“Hehe, Yang Bo, I’ll help you eat your share.” Hao Yingqiang smiled.
Even if Yang Bo did not want to eat it, he wanted to try a piece today when he saw Hao Yingqiang coveting his portion!
“I’ll try it!” Yang Bo took a piece, gritted his teeth, closed his eyes, and stuffed it into his mouth.
A moment later, his eyes were filled with happiness. “It’s so delicious!”
Yang Bo would have eaten them all if not for Ali reminding him to leave two pieces for Luo Feng. He was not satisfied and even ate two pieces of pickled vegetables made by Hao Yingqiang’s family.
They were all delicious food that smelled bad and tasted good.
After eating, Yang Bo became worried again.
Hao Yingqiang and Ali had brought the local specialties of their hometown, so he did not bring anything. Moreover, he was a local. No matter what there was to eat locally, his roommates would just take a taxi and eat. He did not have to bring them to the dormitory.
However, Yang Bo felt very embarra.s.sed to eat someone else’s food for free.
At this moment, the door of the dormitory opened. Luo Feng was holding a small suitcase in his hand, followed by Ai Tingya. He did not seem to have brought any specialties.
“Hey! You’re back early!” Luo Feng greeted them.
