Chapter 1423: Slipped Away
Editor: Henyee Translations
Zhao Shu seethed with anger.
What was the third section of the family thinking? How could they consider such a timid girl worthy of him?
He wasn’t one to place much importance on family background, but he was certainly out of reach for a family like this!
How could he stomach this?
He stood up and forced a smile. “I won’t partake in this meal. I suddenly recalled that Auntie Fang prepared dumplings filled with shrimp and mushrooms this afternoon. I’ll return home and have those dumplings!”
This meal wasn’t particularly enticing, and it wasn’t worth any potential complications.
“Hey!” Third Uncle attempted to halt him, grinning. “You’re already here!”
Tongshun pushed aside Third Uncle’s hand. “Just say what you want to say, don’t touch him. My Young Master doesn’t appreciate being manhandled.”
ReadNovelFull.comThird Uncle shot an annoyed look at Tongshun, pondering that his servant was indeed audacious. Just wait, once your Young Master becomes my son-in-law, I’ll teach you a lesson…
Reluctantly, Third Uncle withdrew his hand and maintained a fawning smile toward Zhao Shu. “Young Master Zhao, it’s just a meal. We’ve prepared a variety of dishes, including chicken and fish. Young Master Zhao, please have a taste!”
“No need!” Zhao Shu smiled and insisted on departing.
Third Uncle grew anxious. “Sigh!”
“By the way…” Zhao Shu suddenly paused and smiled at Third Uncle. “My uncle has arranged a fiancée for me, and I’m dedicated to him. I’ll be leaving in a few days, so I’ll bid you farewell now, Third Uncle!”
Third Uncle was taken aback. “But…”
“Goodbye.”
Zhao Shu didn’t give Third Uncle an opportunity to speak and swiftly made his escape.
Third Uncle contemplated chasing after him, but Tongshun restrained him, offering a sly smile. “Master Third Uncle, stay put and don’t trip!”
With those words, he let go and confidently walked away.
Shao Xiaozhi was deeply shaken. She covered her face and hurried back to her room.
“Um—” Third Uncle was left stupefied. He cast a glare at Eldest Uncle. “Elder Brother, why aren’t you speaking up for us?”
Eldest Uncle opened his mouth and let out a sigh. “Let’s just forget about it, this—”
“What’s the big deal!”
“She already has a fiancé; this—”
Even he was irritated. Zhao already had a fiancée, yet he had told Third Uncle and Ms. Fang that he wanted to marry Taotao, and he was asking for their permission.
Third Uncle grew frustrated and impatiently pushed Eldest Uncle out the door. “Just go!”
“Sigh!” Eldest Uncle sighed as he stood in front of the closed doors. He then rushed home in anger.
He intended to settle the score with that wretched Zhao Shu!
To his astonishment, upon entering the courtyard, he found Zhao Shu and Ms. Fang seated under the large sweet osmanthus tree, engrossed in conversation that had Ms. Fang bursting into laughter.
Eldest Uncle grew even more incensed.
“Young Master Zhao! You—”
“Uncle!”
“Oh, you’ve returned!” Ms. Fang sneered as she stood up and fixed him with an icy glare. “Is the meal from the third branch to your liking? How could you stomach it?”
Eldest Uncle was so infuriated that he pointed at Zhao Shu. “He—”
“What about him?” Ms. Fang retorted sharply. “You have a poor memory, haven’t you already been deceived by the third branch? Do you just believe everything they tell you? Young Master Zhao nearly got into serious trouble because of your actions! Thankfully, he was clever enough to make his escape.”
Zhao Shu offered a modest smile and respectfully clasped his hands before Ms. Fang. “I’m truly grateful, Aunt!”
Ms. Fang waved her hand dismissively. “No, no, no! You’re an astute young man!”
