Chapter 183 - "Mommy, are you going to get me a new daddy?" (3)
“What are you having today?” asked the old lady curiously as she looked at the lunchbox that Feng Zeyu has in his hand. “Oh mi. Beer duck? Braised eggplants, braised pork, tomato fried eggs, and a hot and sour bamboo shoots. Is she from the Chuan Province?” This kid was too quiet. He refused to share anything.
“No, Grandma. We really are just friends.” Feng Zeyu didn’t know what to make of that. She already has two children. For sure she was already married.
“Alright, alright. I’ll stop asking. I am going to bed now.” And he was still trying to tell her that they were just friends. What kind of friends would make all these different dishes every day? Meats and fish at that. How come she never met a friend like that in her entire life? And he was still trying to lie to her.
Feng Zeyu figured that Shu Yan wanted to talk to him about the traffickers.
Truth was, he did have news for her. He heard from his comrade that they had already arrested the traffickers’ partners. They had even saved a few children and a few women that they had kidnapped. For some inexplicable reasons, he did not tell Shu Yan when he was outside of her house this morning. The reason that he gave himself was that he didn’t want to be seen with her; that would be bad for her reputation.
So why didn’t he tell her after they got off the car? Nor did he mention it when she went to the Star of Jiangnan.
He picked up a duck leg and took a bite. It must be that he didn’t want the tasty food to end…
“Mom, that uncle…” JingJing asked hesitantly, “Does he have nothing to eat?” What she really wanted to ask was why did her mother keep on making him dinner.
Tianbao was still young and didn’t understand much. JingJing had always been a mature one and understood a lot. Mainly she had a cla.s.smate whose parents were divorced. He told JingJing that after both of his parents got remarried, neither one of them cared about him anymore and he now lived with his grandparents. That made JingJing worried. She worried that her mother would be like her father and no longer want her and her brother if she got remarried.
What if she had to return to her grandparents? The thought made JingJing shuddered. She didn’t want to go back to those days.
“No. He did Mommy a big favor in the past so Mommy cooks for him to thank him.” Kids always thought that they hid their emotions very well but, truth was, an adult could see through it right away. Shu Yan pinched JingJing on her cheek and said, “Don’t think too much, kiddo. Mommy is busy right now. Taking care of you two is already a handful. I don’t have time to think about anything else.”
JingJing lowered her head. “Mommy, will you give up little brother and I?”
She had once overheard Wu Xiuyue talking to Zhang Chenghan’s grandmother. She said that if it wasn’t for her and her little brother, her mother would be a very successful person.
“What are you talking about? Why would Mommy give you two up? If I am going to do that, I wouldn’t have brought you two with me when I left.” Shu Yan put a piece of eggplant into Tianbao’s bowl and said, “Don’t just eat meats, have some vegetables too.”
Tianbao ate the vegetables with a frowny face before he looked up and asked, “Mommy, are you looking for a new daddy for me?”
Shu Yan looked over at Tianbao in shock. “Who said that to you?” Were there already rumors started without her knowing?
“I said it.” Tianbao picked up a piece of braised pork and shoved it into his mouth. His mommy’s braised pork was delicious. “I have a cla.s.smate whose parents were separated. He said that meant they are no longer together. Then his father brought home a new mother. He said his mother, too, has found a new father. I have seen his parents. His daddy would beat people up and beat his mother a lot. I felt that it’s a good thin that his mother found a new father.”
Shu Yan looked at Tianbao, dumbfounded. She couldn’t believe that just came out of a three-and-a-half years old boy.
