As they walked toward the merchants guild, Ahri closely trailed behind Caesar's tall figure, "have you already informed your father of our arrival?" she asked hesitantly. No one was willing to freeload, especially the prideful fox-kin, thus, Ahri was quite apologetic about the matter.

Caesar knew of her concerns, so he just smiled rea.s.suringly, "Relatively, however, I'll be taking care of them with my own money until they are capable of standing on their own two feet. I will grant the fox-kin sufficient tools, farmland, and opportunities, just like the citizens of Rahvin kingdom," Caesar explained as he turned right and walked across a more luxurious road.

Ahri nodded her head, "thank you…" she replied with a quavering voice as they finally reached the entrance of the merchants guild. The lights were still on and without replying to Ahri, he pushed the wooden door and entered.

The smell of paper, ink, and coffee a.s.saulted Caesar's nose as he walked inside. A small ding echoed out from a nearby bell and one of the employees quickly approached Caesar. She was a moderately short young girl with blue hair that flowed like a serene river, a graceful and professional smile plastered on her face.

"I'm sorry sir, but the merchants guild is closed right now…" she said hesitantly as she deeply bowed her head. She was aware of Caesar's position within the kingdom, but the merchants guild was a powerful and fearful force in their continent.

Instead of answering the young la.s.s, Caesar briskly walked past her and walked up the staircase, "don't worry sweetheart, you'll be seeing much more of me in the near future" he whispered quietly as he made his way up.

Ahri glanced between Caesar and the shocked girl for a few moments before smiling wryly and striking up a conversation with her, "h-he's a bit difficult to understand sometimes…" Ahri stammered for words and barely managed to seize the young girl's attention.

Caesar didn't pay the two gals much attention and soon made it to the top of the staircase, where yet another small hall greeted him. At the end of the hall lied a black and conspicuous door, where the sound of scribbling and grunting occasionally escaped from.

A playful smile appeared on Caesar's lips as he quickened his pace and entered the room without knocking. As the door slowly creaked open, the thick aroma of coffee caused him to slightly furrow his brows and glance toward the table.

Snoring and grunting escaped from a sleeping Veronica that was currently hunched over her desk. Her hands instinctively wrote on a random piece of sheepskin and Caesar quietly walked over to the desk.

He pulled out a white, silk glove from his suit pocket and elegantly placed it on his right hand before picking up a few pieces of letters and paper that were laid out in front of the sleeping Veronica. He scrutinized the contents of the few pieces of paper that detailed some sort of statistic.

It only took Caesar a few moments to deduce that it was the income and cost of his current weapons business. The materials, workers, and rent were deduced from the generated income which was then distributed to Caesar and Veronica, who would deliver bonuses onto those who were deserving.

The weapons that were given to the rebel forces for free when Caesar had first left from Rahvin kingdom had cost them over 1500 gold coins, however, the amount of popularity gained from their endeavor made it worth their while. In the following month, they gained over 10000 golden coins for selling the weapons at an overexaggerated price.

Caesar a.s.sumed that the weapons showcased their worth quite well as the money gained even after subtracting the workers' pay was over 25000 gold. Naturally, 20000 would go to Caesar and 5000 would go to Veronica.

The doc.u.ments that detailed their deal were still in Caesar's possession and if she were to ever go back on her word, she would be instantaneously blacklisted by the merchants guild. With this in mind, he scanned the other papers and even inspected a few of the personal letters.

Letters from family, love-letters, and, of course, letters sent directly to the Evernight company address. He read the contents of each one with a calm smile and even found himself a decent seat, placing his feet on top of Veronica's desk.

Many threats coming from stronger kingdoms, underworld businesses, and even the a.s.sa.s.sins guild were present. Judging by the crinkled letters, it was clear that Veronica was fearful of the consequences for ignoring them, however, Caesar was relatively calm.

The pages fluttered as Caesar read for a few more hours without taking a break. As he read the final letter, m.u.f.fled laughter escaped from his lips as he grabbed the quill pen on Veronica's desk. He gave directions on how much to pay the workers, how much more workers to employ, and some more money to purchase an even larger building. Naturally, he would take some of the money to buy food for the fox-kin.

20000 gold was an absurd amount of money, which was capable of buying a dozen or so extravagant houses. As such, it was enough to give the workers a bonus and a better workplace, whilst also supplying the fox-kin with enough food for now.

Money was the least of Caesar's worries as he could easily come up with a few more inventions based on his degree in engineering and modern knowledge. Although he majored in weapons, his range of expertise was by no means shallow. There were plenty of simple inventions that would sell like hot-cakes on a Christmas morning.

Whether it was simply water and windmills, the flying b.u.t.tress, or even paper money. All of which were things very easy to implement that would rake in plenty of money. Not to mention the fact that Caesar was certainly aware of what made the most money… Weapons, alcohol, food, drugs, and, of course, tax.

All of which were things that were always in high demand and Caesar was capable of selling each and every one of them. Although Caesar wouldn't sell silly things like drugs, he would gladly sell a simple distiller for money.

Thinking to here, Caesar subtly glanced at the groggy Veronica who was about to awake and stood up from his chair. He didn't feel like talking to a woman who was tired and held a grudge against him, at the very least, she would contain her anger when fully awake.

Thus, he placed the piece of paper with his instructions on the table and quietly stepped out of the room, heading down the stairs and being greeted by Ahri and the blue-haired la.s.s energetically conversing with one another.

As Caesar appeared, Ahri quickly locked arms with him and bowed apologetically toward the young la.s.s before leaving. The night wind a.s.saulted both him and Ahri as they walked down the desolate and quiet streets.

"That look… you're going to do something bad again, aren't you?" Ahri interjected after a moment of hesitation. She knew Caesar's personality well, and whenever he squinted his eyes and licked his lips, it meant that he was about to something somewhat unethical.

"Not necessarily, I'm simply going to start expanding the business and using the money to my advantage…" He replied with a half-truth and pulled Ahri by the arm. He figured he would surprise Elizabeth at the palace with Ahri's presence since it wasn't too late yet.
