In a bright office, in contrast to the room he was previously seated, the King sat in the presence of a few subordinates.
"Boss actually, we failed to report to you earlier. Chamberlain forced Stallone to work for him." The first subordinate said solemnly.
The King as impa.s.sive as ever questioned, "What kind of work?"
"So far it's increasing the company's profit. I'm confident that's not all." The first man answered.
"Oh…"
They were interrupted by rus.h.i.+ng footsteps, "Reporting to boss, the gang the Stans are fighting were transporting dynamites stolen from the mines."
"Stolen?" He asked raising his brows.
There was not much expression on the face of the King but a chill ran down the spine of the subordinate. "Actually, it wasn't exactly stolen. They had a man in the mines. He only lied about the amount of explosives used and sold them to the gang."
"The dynamites were detonated." Another subordinate rushed in to report.
"How?" He casually asked.
"In the exchange, a stray bullet set off the explosives." The subordinate answered.
"Casualties?"
"Unknown."
The King drummed his hands against the hardwood before instructing, "It's time to send that warning to the Stans. Kill the seller, wipe out their gang."
"Yes Boss!"
He had information that the Stans were working for a hidden power. Since the other side could conceal themselves, he didn't want to act recklessly. Their ident.i.ties were still unknown and he had first hand information that Brandon Blackwood may be used as the scapegoat and then Stallone would immediately take over the mantle of rulers.h.i.+p. Killing two birds with a stone.
He wasn't sure how he felt about Stallone taking over. He was both inexperienced and soft hearted, he couldn't possibly lead a family based on kindness alone. Since the Stans decided to interfere in his turf, acting without accordance, he had to remind them who was in charge.
As his subordinates filed out in an orderly manner, he swiveled his seat, overlooking the city.
He was supposed to be in the capital but because Carl was banished, he followed behind. It was also a good opportunity to see how this side handled matters.
The streets were littered with people like rush hour on a Monday morning. To think there was once a time he was like every other person. Such a distant memory. These days, he slept quite well as compared to before. Maybe it was due to change in environment, he wasn't sure.
What he was sure of is that he wanted to make Carl feel as helpless and as powerless as he felt on that dreadful day. It did not matter to him that Carl was not directly involved in that ordeal. He was simply the only surviving person related to that day.
How was it that before he could exact his revenge, they were all dead? Why then did he acc.u.mulate so much power? Carl had to bear the brunt of it all. That was the only way to relieve the pain. It was his only purpose.
…
After almost two hours of moving from one hospital to another, Carl finally found Kim. She layed limp on the bed. Her face, pale beyond comparison. She had lost a lot of blood but was lucky to have arrived just in time. Her life wasn't in any danger as the bullet was successfully removed and the bleeding was stopped.
She was like Sleeping Beauty, only with bandages. After confirming she was out of danger and was only sleeping, he moved her to a single room. He didn't want her to be disturbed by the noise or be affected by those in the ER.
He couldn't fathom the pain she went through. He had never been shot before. His only physical injuries were those inflicted by his father and his men.
Though he was glad she was alive, he wished he was the one that was shot and not her.
Taking out his phone, he began texting Allan to know more about the situation. Gritting his teeth, his mind drifted off to Chamberlain. He knew they were not innocent but he did not expect them to go all out. There was even an explosion and innocent people got involved.
But as powerless as he was, he couldn't do anything to them. His phone dinged. He saw that the explosion was unintentional, however it did not make him feel any better. It did not matter that they did not mean it, what mattered was that people died. Some were injured critically.
He wondered why they were still dragging out the take over. Except they were met with more than they expected. He really did not know why they were trying to take over, he only knew that the gang had control of the docks. Maybe they wanted to import illegal goods? Since it couldn't be done in the capital because it was at the heart of the country.
Carl sighed deeply, setting his phone aside. He turned to her, then he tucked her hair behind her ears. Remembering that he came empty handed, he quickly texted Allan to get some necessities because he couldn't bare to leave her side.
