After opening his eyes he felt full of energy, after all, an illusion such as this didn't have any way to simulate stamina.
He knew that he was actually still unconscious somewhere at this point.
After a moment of looking around the room he awakened in a sense of nostalgia came over him.
He awakened in a relatively large room. It had a straw bed which he was currently sitting in, a wooden chest with a couple of miscellaneous items in the far corner, a bow hanging on the wall to his left and a sword that was leaning against a rigid wooden dresser standing at the wall in front of him.
Just after he got up a mechanical voice sounded out.
Mission 1 initiated: Defend the village
Jay calmly walked towards the box which was filled with a number of items ranging from plates to spices. As well as a few bandages. Ignoring most of the things inside he simply took a small pot with spices before turning towards the sword and bow which were also in the room.
After a second of consideration, he decided only to take the sword. The bow on the wall was little more than decoration, the string was old and the body was made with the wrong sort of wood.
After this he walked outside, so far he had remained absolutely calm, taking care of everything quickly, however, now, anyone that pa.s.sed by could clearly see he was shaking.
An old man that was just pa.s.sing by noticed and approached seemingly slightly worried.
"No need to be so scared young general, I'm sure you all will repel those bandits with ease."
However, once he said these words, Jay's shoulders started shaking even more before he raised his head laughing loudly. "Old man, don't you worry. I'll kill every single one of those b.a.s.t.a.r.ds!"
'How fun.....how exhilarating...'
After taking a short moment to calm down he started walking to the middle of this town. The town wasn't all that large having around 300 inhabitants, with a military of just 50 men total. The inhabitants seemed to be in a relatively good state with a decent amount of people living in their 60s.
Now since this was just an illusion, most of the people here could be considered absolute idiots. For example, a blacksmith wouldn't know even know the tiniest bit about tannery and a soldier wouldn't know anything other than how to fight.
The bandits that would attack the town would also number 50. The problem was that the townsfolk wouldn't prove even the tiniest bit of help. Dumping some rocks over the walls would probably be the most they could do.
So, since the bandits vastly out skilled the town's militia, this was a rather tough fight.
If they let the militia fight there would be a good 30 bandits left who would then kill nearly everyone in the town.
In his last life he actually managed to get a narrow win by using some guerilla tactics on the enemy camp at night. Despite pulling about even on casualties the bandits ended up retreating. And even though that got him a good score, it also put him on the mercenary path instead of the Lord's path which wasn't something he wanted this life.
After reaching the barracks, a long wooden building with a few dozen people currently chatting inside he immediately entered with his sword sheathed. Not looking at any of the soldiers he rapidly made his way towards a room at the very back.
As he entered through another door he could see 3 people, one was a young soldier that wanted to rush towards the bandits right now and fight them before they set up camp. The second person was a person hidden underneath a dark cloak who wanted to go in at night and kill as many as they could in their sleep. Lastly, there was an old man with an awful temper who wanted to try and evacuate the town only taking a small number of necessities with them.
In between them, there was a large map of the city and the surroundings with a few points highlighted. It seemed like the bandits were only about 3 hours away but they were expected to make a temporary camp soon. After all, no sane commander would attack when the men are already exhausted from walking.
Once a person got here what they did was usually pretty similar to each other. They would like one of the plans above the other 2 and side with that general. Then they would take some 'quests' from that general to try and beat the bandits.
As expected, after the trio noticed him the old man turned to him.
"General Collin, what do you think we should do?"
Such general dialogue, it certainly had been a long time since he had to work with someone this idiotic. Without a word, Jay looked at the trio sternly before walking up to the map.
There were in truth a mult.i.tude of ways to get a Lord's rating, some were quite easy but those were also bound to give weaker ratings. He had heard a few ways to get a D or C Lord rank rating. One of which was to send some soldiers at night to disturb the beast king in the eastern forest, then they would run into the enemies camp, causing them as well as the soldiers guiding the beast to perish.

Another way was to fight a war of attrition. Using the night to get some trees chopped and reinforce the walls and gates while shooting at the enemies with arrows. In truth, this was the plan Jay was planning to go with but he couldn't help but give it a good thought as getting a better ranking initially could help you get a ma.s.sive head start.
As he looked at the map carefully he took note of a few things. Other then the Beast King in the east, there was also a beast king in the west and a volcano with a rumored 'mythical-level monster' in the north. With the Town being in the far south. Furthermore, there was also a dam built North-West of where the Bandits were resting.
For a moment Jay was speechless, after all, all these things were so easy to find and utilize. How hadn't he noticed last time around?! After a moment of silent thinking, Jay finally spoke up.
"Let's attack them when the moon is at it's highest point. Attack them when they are unprepared"
A mysterious smile made its way onto his mouth. This night, 50 bandits would die, while there would be no casualties on their side. Of this, he was already sure.
