"How are you, Ingrid? It's been a while..." The man said gently. Remorse could be seen written in his eyes.
"I- I'm good." Her voice quaked.
It's been years since she saw him, and she could not find out what she felt about the man. He is still good looking but he appeared more mature and responsible now than he was in college.
"Ingrid, who is he?" Clifford interrupted. Ingrid gradually felt a cold ambience slowly erupted from him.
"I'm Sheldon Mesley, her ex." It was Sheldon who answered when he saw that Ingrid has no intention of introducing her to her companion. He initiated to shake hands with the man.
Clifford just looked at his extended hand and ignored him. Sheldon felt embarra.s.sed so he pulled out his extended hands and shakes it off on his pants as if it has some sand.
"He is Clifford Briggs, my boss." Then she squinted at Clifford's direction.
"I am not just her boss, Mr. Mesley, I am also her friend and later will be her–"
"Cliff, stop it!" she cut short whatever Clifford blurts out.
"What?" Clifford glared at her back. Sheldon laughed.
"Are you having a lover's quarrel, here?" Sheldon was so amused at what he is seeing.
"NO!" Clifford and Ingrid simultaneously answered and both glared at him.
"Woah, fiery couple. Anyways, Ingrid hope we could catch up for old times' sake." Sheldon said sincerely. "I promise no prank this time, no bets, just you and me as friends. And also to recoup the nasty things that I did to you. Believe me, I changed after that."
"Thanks but no thanks. Sorry, but I am not a dog who returns to its own vomit." After saying that, she stormed out from their presence fuming with irritation.
She looked for her son and called him to go back. While the two men left in agape.
"Wew! What a fiery woman. I like that!" Sheldon shakes his head and grinned.
"Just what you did to her, Mr. Mesley? What do you mean by those nasty things you mentioned earlier? Are you the one who broke her heart?" Clifford clenched his jaws and had the urged to punch the man's face.
"Woah! Easy, man. I am not here to make some trouble, I just happened to notice her a while ago because I haven't seen her after we graduated so I think we need some catching up. With regards to those nasty things I mentioned, I think it's none of your business and besides, it's only between me and Ingrid to discuss." Sheldon said it with seriousness.
Clifford controlled himself not to hit him, so he just firmly clenched his hands and left. But then Clifford stopped and turned around to face him again.
"This is a warning, if I ever see you again hanging around her or meeting with her, I swear I will no longer control myself and will punch your face. Bear that in your mind."
Sheldon's jaw dropped, his eyes were bulging and he was left in shock.
Ingrid went directly to the penthouse but unfortunately she could not enter because she has no hotel's key card. So she just waited for Clifford to arrive. While waiting she was fuming with anger against Sheldon who acts as if he did not do anything stupid to her.
"Is he insane? What does he think of me? Gos.h.!.+ He is driving me crazy!" Ingrid touched her forehead. Clark looked at his mom with perplexity.
"Mommy, what's wrong? Who is driving you crazy?" the child asked her innocently, her anger then lessen which makes her amuse and then she chuckled.
"Oh what would I do if you are not here, Clark? You always make me feel lighter."
"Huh?" the child blinked his eyes.
"Oh never mind." She hugged her son tightly and kissed him on his head.
Then the elevator opened and she saw Clifford with confused look. He took the key card and inserted it. They were both sensing each other's temper, and to avoid Clifford she hurriedly went to the direction of their bedroom.
"Ingrid, wait." She jolted when she heard him calling her. She just stood there and hesitated to turn around. She budged her gaze to her son.
"Clark, go to the room and wash." The child obeyed.
"Yes?" she slowly turned to his direction.
