He instructed Gary to take Rose, his mother-in-law and his son, Clark somewhere private but not far away from the hospital. He also instructed Gary to go back to the hospital after Rose and Clark arrive at the meeting place and tripled the security and no one should enter the hospital without Gary or him inside the room.
His mother-in-law was somehow confused of his son-in-law's arrangement but she agreed and prepared Clark, too. She told her husband that she and Clark would just stroll somewhere to cheer their sad grandson. Rose has been so anxious lately and felt that Clifford is hiding something from them.
"Hope it doesn't involved my daughter, G.o.d forbid!" she exclaimed in her thought as they travel to the place where Clifford reserved for them.
"Grandma, are we meeting my daddy and mommy there?" Clark enthusiastically asked,
"I believe so, love." She smiled fondly at him and caressed his face.
"I can't wait, grandma… I terribly miss them so much and my siblings. Do you think mom secretly popped the balloon without us knowing to surprise us?"
"Pop the balloon?" the old woman chuckled hearing her grandson's words and he ill.u.s.trates giving birth, so she pretended not to know.
"You know it, grandma, maybe mommy already gave birth."
"Oh, so clever of you to use that term, my sweet boy, you may be right or maybe not. Let's just wait until we arrive there, we'll know the answer, okay?" her grandson's words slightly alleviate her worries somehow.
"I hope so, love, I hope so."
When they reached the place, Gary immediately meet them and escorted them to the room where Clifford already waiting for them. The man stood up, dismissing Gary, warmly greeted his mother-in-law with a peck on her cheeks and took his son to his arms and hugged him tightly.
"I miss you so much, son." He hugged and kissed him simultaneously.
"Dad I can't breathe and it's tickling me. Where's my mom, dad?" so he stopped and looks at his son, amused.
He put him down in the chair while his mother-in-law smiled looking at them, but he immediately evaded her gaze and his son's question.
"What do you wanna eat, mother? How about you, young man?"
Clifford tried to calm the tense atmosphere that he felt even before they arrived by diverting their attention first, he rang for the waiter so that they could order. After they order, they went silent for a few moments.
"Daddy, you didn't answer my question, where's mom? Is she with you? Is she hiding? Did she already pop the balloon?" his brows creased.
"He's asking if Ingrid already gave birth and that your reason for meeting us here is to surprise us with the twins." The old woman answered.
Clifford lowered his head and huffed. 'I can do this.' He muttered in his breath. Instead of answering her, his gaze fixes on his son.
"Son, do you remember the last time we talk when I told you that the moment mommy's available I'm gonna call you immediately?" the child nodded and he turned his gaze to Rose.
"Mother, Clark, I have a confession to make… I hope you could forgive me for concealing this from you but I have no other choice. You can punch me, curse me, or do whatever you want to me after I said everything to you and I will not sugar coat, mother." The old woman started to get alarmed while Clark sits still and did not move.
"Clifford, better stop this prank or I will not forgive you." she threatened. He released a breathy sigh before he continued.
"I hope this is simple as a prank, but no, it isn't. Ingrid is in the hospital right now and just awakens earlier from an almost a month coma."
"WHAT??!!" But Clifford did not bothered by her horrendous voice almost screaming but he tried to remain calm.
"She fell from the stairs while she was on her way to go home from her office."
"Stairs? Why did she take the stairs?!"
"She was about to go home when there was a sudden blackout in the building and because she waited there long enough so she decided to take the stairs, unfortunately the stairs were suspiciously slippery that causes her to be out of balance and then she fell, horribly."
"OH MY G.o.d! WHY?! WHY IT'S SLIPPERY?" Rose covered her mouth in shock, and her breathing started to become unstable and she started to weep.
"Why Ingrid? Why her? Oh my poor daughter. Why didn't you tell me earlier? How about the twins, how are they?! Oh my G.o.d! I cannot take this!" she said in between her sobs, gazing him accusingly as anger filled her eyes.
"I am so sorry for concealing this from you, Mother. I just don't want you, all of you, to go through what I've gone through. It was a h.e.l.l of month for me not knowing what will happen next. I could not bear to see father Clark and you to suffer. So I decided to keep everything from you and blocked everyone in my power who tried spread the news so that it won't reach your hearing."
"That's why you lied to me, dad?" Clifford then saw his son's depressive gaze. He could not move.
A deep and deafening silence then took over them. Rose cried in silence because she don't know what to think any longer while Clark went to him and embraced him and cried on his shoulder but careful not to let any sound to come out. Their conversationis interrupted when their orders came.
It was Clark who broke the silence after their food was serve.
"Daddy, how's my twin siblings? Are they still alive? Did mommy already wake up?"
Despite his apprehension, he showed a bitter smile to his son.
"They are all alive. Your mommy popped the balloon prematurely, meaning she had a forced labor because of the accident and they're now in the incubator, growing fast and healthy."
"Can we go and see them… and mommy, too?"
Clifford looks to his mother-in-law first before he answered.
"Yes, you may, after we eat…"
Rose then cleared her throat, which caught Clifford's attention, so he bow down his head as he readied himself for the hurtful words that she may utter. He waited for a moment but he never heard her speak.
Slowly, he looked into her eyes and there she saw her…. smiling but it does not reach her eyes. Then his eyes travelled when he feels that she took both his hands and he stared back at her again, stunned.
"Forgive me for reacting that way. All I can is… my daughter is blessed beyond anyone to have you as her husband. I do perfectly understand what you meant, you don't have to go through it alone, son. You have us. We could have carried the burden with you. She is our daughter, we have the right to know."

"But I feared that it will affect your health greatly, I don't want it that when Ingrid wakes up, she'll be devastated to know that you're not in good shape. Blame me all you want, mother, but I will never regret what I did."
