"It is indeed crucial and worth stealing. It was stolen but luckily someone took notice of its disappearance on your desk and without delay we hunted down the culprit."
"Stole? What is it?" Clifford's heart started to beat erratically.
"A letter." Ingrid and Clifford's eyes widen and both looked at each other.
"Who notice its disappearance?"
"Master Clint, your father." He looked at his father, questioning him.
Clint Briggs heaved a heavy sigh and spoke.
"I knew you would suspect me that I am the one who stole it. But I didn't. This is what happened, instead. On the day of your arrival, I went to your office and I noticed a strange letter, a worn out one. I was just about to ignore it but my eyes caught something and it was the sender of the letter, a fertility clinic. My hands shook while I hold it and I was so tempted to open the letter but stopped myself because it is not fitting for me to do so. Timely, Gary called me. But then I promised to myself that I need to go back to the office to check it once again or maybe read it. When I came back, I was shocked not to find it there, so I immediately ordered to check the CCTV around your office. Upon seeing the culprit, I called Mr. Vladimir to have a closer look on the matter as I believe that it has something to do with you, Ingrid and Clark."
"Why is it related to Clark's?" Ingrid asked.
"That is why Mr. Vladimir is here."
Mr. Vladimir showed a report regarding the IVF incident five years ago. He gave each person present in that room a copy of the report for them to read on their own. Ingrid's hands trembled as she received the letter. She closed her eyes and gulped.
'This is it.'
Unfortunately, it is so detailed that she could not follow through because her mind is so preoccupied with so many things. Knowing that the report is lengthy, Mr. Vladimir decided to just narrate what's in it.
"The report stated that in January 2013, Miss Ingrid Howard made an appointment with Dr. Samantha Miers. It was also on that same month did Mr. Clifford Briggs deposit his sperm. After several attempts, Miss Howard finally confirmed that she was one month pregnant in mid February of the same year. Unfortunately, she labored prematurely in September 2013."
Ingrid gasped. 'How did these people knew? This is highly confidential.' She could not believe Dr. Sam would reveal this.'
Vladimir continued narrating.
"After the success of the IVF, the fertility clinic sent a letter to Mr. Clifford Briggs about it. Unfortunately, it was just sat aside and Mr. Briggs hasn't read it. We investigated also why Mr. Briggs was chosen as the donor," Mr. Vladimir paused and looked to Ingrid. "...Miss Howard should I speak publicly the qualifications you require? Or should they just read it on their own?" The man asked for permission to continue it.
"Geez, let them read it!" she snapped. They all fell silent and read. 'I'm gonna die of embarra.s.sment now! Just wait Dr. Sam!' she is fuming with rage inside her.
While both of their fathers were half smiling, Clifford on the other hand, frowned as he read,
THE REQUIREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS: ABOVE AVERAGE IQ, GOLDEN HAIR, TALL, BLUE EYES, AND OF COURSE HANDSOME, NO CIVIL OR CRIMINAL RECORDS, HAVE NOT ENGAGE IN s.e.xUAL INTERCOURSE FOR AT LEAST A YEAR.
He glanced at Ingrid, his eyes mocking with surprise. "Haven't engaged in s.e.xual intercourse at least a year? Really, Ingrid? You even have thought about this?"
She squinted angrily at him. "Mind your own business!" her face was flushed.
Ingrid glanced at her father and feared what will be his say on this. She could not read his emotion. Knowing him, he would not normally show his sentiments regarding a matter outside their home unless the situation calls it.
"Mind to inform all of you, that the doctor has no idea even up to this moment about this. We were so discreet regarding our investigation and deleted and burned any evidence or trace. We are certain no one can find out."
