Undead on his level would be at a disadvantage, but if they were much stronger than him, even his barrier wouldn't be able to hold them back. As his forest of obelisks grew, the barrier would grow stronger and be able to hold off stronger foes from entering his domain.
He watched as both cities went to war with themselves, the orders he had given through his rings to each family leader he had branded and then controlled to send their forces out and to conquer the city.
The dead warriors were dumped near his forts, the excuse used was to send him a message that his people would be next, he smiled as his girls were using these "messages" to add more soldiers to his own army of wraiths.
He was waiting for the leaders of the elven clans to join him in the throne room, he would offer them seats on the council of his city, some had vast amounts of experience and he would need guidance in areas not pertaining to war.
He had noticed that most of the knowledge his creator left was of conquest, he didn't want war for his people but he knew it would be necessary to protect them. Not everyone was willing to trade with you peacefully, some would look at his lands and desire what was his.
The predecessors of this mountain had learned that the hard way.

He had received a report during breakfast that most of the guests he had invited had arrived, at both forts, most were family members of the humans and dwarves who had taken up residence within his city, while many others were like the amba.s.sadors and many other n.o.ble families that had displayed the better qualities of mankind.
He had invited the dwarf clan that he had granted a towns.h.i.+p too, he would not ignore them over old hatreds that made little sense to him, this invitation to the council of elders was met with a gift of beer and dwarven made weapons.
The weapons were intriguing to him as a smith and enchanter, he had looked through the weapons and he found a set of black tomahawks which he enjoyed playing with. They might come in handy on the battlefield so he kept them for his own personal collection.
The enchantment on them was the common penetration, he would be able to pierce through any unenchanted armor, against the undead it would be useful if he could hit them in the head otherwise, he would only use them on heavily armored living targets. He kept one on his hip and three more in his pocket dimension.
He was wearing his silk, black and green, robes to this formal gathering, he was actually getting excited, seeing so many of his kin alive and well. He was happy that he had managed to warn them before the undead had encircled them, he didn't hate the undead for what they were, only the methods which they used to fill their armies.
Sitting up straight Salem felt as his honored guests arrive one by one, arriving first were the amba.s.sadors from the human cities, they had all arrived before the fighting had started so they didn't know that their cities were in a state of war.
As they entered the hall they saw the view of the mountain and cities below and gasped in shock and delight, smiles blossoming on their faces, though they couldn't make out what was happening from this view unless they had an elfs eyesight.
He welcomed them all with a smile and toasted each family, he had the amba.s.sadors sit close to him after the humans took their seats the dwarven clan was welcomed, Ohren Bolgerish walked in with his retinue, he was broad and tall for a dwarf. He stood at five feet tall, even with the formal wear on him, you could see the fabric cling to the large arms that they failed to hide.
Toasting Ohren took twice as long, he took the toast as a small compet.i.tion to who could drink longer, luckily for Salem, the gla.s.ses were not that large. Ohren sat with the amba.s.sadors on his left, while there were four chairs on his right, left for the elven lords.
The first to arrive was the forest elves, the Tavari clan lead by a female elf named Yana, she had brown hair and eyes, a little short but she carried herself with pride. She took the first seat to his right, giving him a smile and nod after she sat, he returned the gesture and welcomed her to his hall and city.
Next came the river elves, clan Sindi, lead by Phaen Sindi a tall and kind looking elf. He had black hair and blue eyes, he walked forward and gave a gentle smile and sat beside Yana. The Talath clan came next, these elves were from the plains and migrated often, the Talath clan lead by an older elf, Aeleth Talath, he was about a few inches short of six foot. He had white hair and like most elves have sharp features, though his eyes were a light green color, like dry gra.s.s.
He walked forward with a stern look on his face, his eyes watching the corners of the room, he took his seat and gave a quick nod to his host. Salem returned the greeting with a smile and nod of his own, he was interested in this elf who seemed ready for an ambush even within his palace.
The last to come in was actually a drow clan, the Skal clan, lead by Navi Skal. She was taller than most humans, only slightly shorter than Salem was now, she had dusky skin, black hair, and gray eyes. Her ears were long like his own, unlike the other clans who had short pointed ears. She felt aloof like she wasn't quite there, she didn't have a smile on her cold face, but it did not take away from the attractive body that she wasn't trying to conceal.
Her bountiful b.r.e.a.s.t.s pushed against her tight robes while her pants were like a second layer of skin, showing off her toned legs and curves. He watched the cold beauty the only emotion he could see from her was agitation, as she glared at him.
Not so surprised at the glare she cast his way when she sat to his right, the drow were mostly ruled by matriarchs while males would be trained as warriors, or slaves depending on the clan. He noticed the glare wasn't for him only, the other elf clans were not as hospitable to the drow which he should be too surprised about, though he hoped he could end these hostile relations.
There was also tension between the dwarves and the Talath clansmen, he wondered what could've sparked a feud between them, though he was sure he would know soon enough.
"Welcome, all of you to my city, thank you all for coming here my neighbors from Koftas and Idos, though it pains me to say this. Your cities have started a civil war, each clan vying for power, and I am glad you and your families could escape such a b.l.o.o.d.y war."
The amba.s.sadors on his left stood abruptly, along with several other n.o.ble Lords who had frustration and worry written on their faces. Salem stood and raised his hands to calm them and motioned for them to sit.
"I know each of you wishes nothing more than to return to your homes and help, but I am also aware that your forces even combined together would not be able to push back the larger n.o.ble clans who have an interest in taking the cities for themselves.
Try to relax after we finish up here I will work with each of you to relocate the citizens to my city if that is what they wish, you all will be granted asylum from the two warring cities. You can even come to me with your skills and specialties, you will be granted the same t.i.tles in my lands and will be allowed to reclaim your own lands once the civil war has ended.
I will do my best to keep the casualties to a minimum during these trying times, Forsa. Dalen. I would like for you two to join me and my counsel, you are both hardworking and you care for the people it would be best if they had someone they trusted letting them know it was safe here. I can make them all the promises in the world but without your support, many of them will die and possibly starve to death if they are not killed outright."
"Do not worry about the undead, for now, I have strengthened the barrier so that even the upper undead would hate fighting here. Only the very best of them could march through and still be a threat so put those worries aside while you make your decision."
Salem walked down to them and a.s.sured them that he would do everything he could for the people trapped in the cities.
Both Forsa and Dalen took a moment and talked with one another, Salem didn't rush them, he had seen the shock on their faces when he had asked them.
The food was served while everyone waited, Salem offered each clan leader a spot on the council which he got two immediate affirmations, one from Yana and Navi. The later was a surprise to him considering the glare and that he was a male, Ohren was only slightly behind Navi in confirming his seat on the council.
The rest slowly gave their answers during the meal, Dalen and Forsa had agreed to join him and swore their fealty. Which lead to the remaining elf clans to join the council as well, they would be a little stubborn to the way things worked but he hoped he could tame the hostility between them.
There was still hostile stares between a few of them once the meal ended, he wasn't looking forward to the coming struggle but all of them were needed to make his city stronger.
He sat in his study with Railia clinging to him, he drank from his flask and thought of how he would take control of the entire mountain.
