"Don't do anything foolish, kid." There was a man dressed in nice clothes that had two bodyguards by his side; one of which was an elephant beastman that towered over the others. "Just come with us peacefully and your friends get to live. We only want you." Okay, they were definitely targeting him.
It didn't seem like they would kill him since they needed him for something so Gren had to change the plan. "I'll create a path to the roof so that you two can target the archers first. If it looks like the others are going to capture me and it's too dangerous to help me then escape on your own. Don't let yourselves get caught."
The men behind Gren's group were trying to approach him quietly so Gren lifted the dirt from beneath their feet and used it to trap their legs while pus.h.i.+ng snow through the people on the archer's side and trying to create a slope for Luna and Midna to climb. For a short while Gren's plan was working but he couldn't maintain control over the magic at a distance. Most of the snow that he had grabbed ended up falling loosely towards the ground and only the dirt closest to him was able to hold on to the legs of the men behind him. It felt like he was using more energy than normal--something was wrong.
The enemy footmen slowed down their approach when they realized that Gren was using magic.
Luna and Midna were able to dodge the first volley of arrows but the pile of snow wasn't high enough to climb on top of the two-story-tall building. "He can still use magic! Take him down!" One of the archers reached for a second arrow from his quiver as he yelled to his allies.
Midna managed to get on top of the archer's building by jumping on to one of the shacks and climbing up the building's ledge but Luna didn't have the agility that Midna did and was left on the ground to fight by Gren's side. The second volley of arrows were disrupted by Midna's attack on the archers but a few of the arrows still made their way over to the other two.
Luna was prepared and managed to dodge the arrows while Gren attempted to block them with an ice barrier. Gren managed to block a couple of the arrows headed his way but his range of control was dwindling and he failed to block the arrow headed towards his left arm. "Gyaaah!" Gren had been injuring his own body for the sake of practicing his healing spells but he had never felt a pain like this.
{d.a.m.n it! Why isn't my magic working properly?}
Midna took out the remaining archers but didn't see an opportunity to reunite with Gren and Luna. The other enemies were slowly tightening the circle around them. Realizing that she couldn't help her friends on her own, Midna rushed to go find help. Midna thought that if she was quick enough then maybe she could bring back reinforcements and save them before anything bad happened. Gren didn't know what to do with his magic ability being limited. It didn't seem like he'd be able to count on his left arm for casting magic either so he could only control one type of magic at a time. His physical combat skills had been improving as he practiced with the knights but he was still a novice and no matter how good they were he wouldn't be able to take down an elephant beastman. Things weren't looking good for him. {Is there anything I can use to help me win?} Gren forgot about it but he still had plenty of objects in his pocket dimension. Most of the furniture and clothes were being used in the guild but there were plenty of statues and chests laying around that could be used as a barricade or possibly even a weapon if he dropped them on people. Besides the elephant beastman it didn't look like they would be able to move the statues on their own and he seemed to be staying back with the man dressed in nice clothes. The other enemies were mostly humans or smaller beastmen. {Take temporary control of the pocket dimension} Gren needed to focus on the battle. There was no way he could mult.i.task in his current state. He and Luna were practically back to back as the enemies had them surrounded. "Luna, don't be alarmed when things start appearing out of thin air. Got it?" Luna was able to figure out what Gren meant since she had seen him use his ability in the past. Gren didn't question the AI's order and prepared to use healing magic. It was pretty obvious what the AI was planning on doing. After Gren felt the pressure from the arrow disappear, he knew that the AI had removed the arrow and he immediately healed his wound. It would be a while until he could properly use his left arm on account of the repaired muscles feeling stiff but it was still better than it was before. The enemies weren't aware of Gren's ability to use healing magic and wondered what else he had up his sleeves. They only became aware of his large magic capacity because he was running around using magic all day long. There were many compet.i.tors so they had to act first if they wanted to gain control of such an attractive resource.
