*Knock* *knock*
"Miss Maria, it's time for dinner." Vivian's voice came from the other side of my bedroom door.
"Just send me some dinner here. Tell mommy and daddy that I'm busy with some educational matters!"
I continued working on the computer virus while Vivian did what I told her. In 30 minutes, I finished the computer virus and ate the dinner that Vivian brought for me. When I summoned Vivian to take the dishes, she came with a surprise.
"Daddy wants to talk with me?"
I could see Vivian's mouth twitch when I said the word, daddy.
"Yes Miss Maria, he said that he will wait for you at his office."
I nodded in affirmation.
Dressed in a simple royal blue dress, I went to Daddy's office. Well, they call it office but it's just another room in the big mansion where Daddy would work when he's at home. He doesn't like to be disrupted while working so that's why he doesn't use the study.
*knock* *knock*
"It's me, Maria."
"Come in."
'Woo~ Nice voice~'
I inwardly applauded for the hoa.r.s.e yet powerful voice of Daddy. This would be our first conversation since I took over Maria's body.
As I opened the door and saw him sitting on his swivel chair with his keen brown eyes on me, I immediately understood why this man managed to keep the Burnsworth family on the high echelon of the business world. I've met a lot of powerful men in my previous life thus I knew that this man is ruthless and highly intellectual.
'This is definitely the big boss!'
"I heard that daddy wanted to talk with me." I put on a cute and innocent look.
He nodded.
'Boo~ He's unfazed with me calling him daddy. Boring!'
"I am aware of what happened at your school." He spoke in a nonchalant tone but it was obvious in his eyes that he wanted to see a reaction on my face.
Not betraying his expectations, I put on a sad face.
"You may cancel the engagement if you like."
'HUH?!'
My surprised look was genuine this time. I never thought that he would be willing to cancel the engagement between Louis and I. Due to my surprise, my lips moved on its own.
"I have a choice?"
I immediately clamped my mouth shut and reprimanded myself.
'WAIT! What did I just say?!'
"The Hamilton family had sent an invitation to you for a dinner tomorrow evening. You may make your choice by that time."
My eyes continued to look at him in disbelief.
"But daddy… This marriage can strengthen the connection between the Burnsworth family and the Hamilton family. Won't it be selfish of me if I decide to cancel this engagement?"
Daddy's eyes narrowed at me.
"The Burnsworth family can stand on its own feet. This marriage is more beneficial to them than it is to us, so they probably would like to do some amendments and keep the engagement."
In my mind, I agree with Daddy. When I researched everything about the Burnsworth family, I found out that this family could be considered as an unmovable fortress. It has the wealth, the roots, the prestige, basically everything plus, the family head is extremely capable.
"If you've decided to cancel the engagement with Louis then your new fiancé shall be the only son of the Raven family."
'Wow! That dude moved fast!'
"You can only have two options. Either you continue with your current engagement or have a new one." Daddy's voice sounded authoritative.
"At least I have options rather than having none." I blurted out as I sensed a small happiness within me.
'd.a.m.n it! It's so hard to supress some emotions of this body!'
I looked down in shame from the impulsive statement that I gave thus I missed seeing the unknown emotion that momentarily flashed through the eyes of the big boss.
"You are now dismissed."
I bowed and fled the area, afraid that the body's emotions will go out of control.
The Maria within me was happy…
Why?
Because for the first time in 16 years of existence, Glace Burnsworth gave her the freedom to make a choice. As the new owner of this body, I understand why there's an unknown sense of happiness. However, I made sure to remind myself.
'This is the happiness of the old Maria, not mine.'
As I got near my bedroom, the cell phone inside my pocket vibrated. When I checked the message, I couldn't help but snicker.
'Sorry b.i.t.c.h, you can neither run nor hide from me.'
