"Well, Well, Well. If it isn't my good friend Lily."
"H-h.e.l.lo, Charley…" As if by accident, Lily and Charley have b.u.mped into each other one lunch break. It's almost as if they go to the same school.
"..." Now that Charley had gotten this far, it was clear she didn't have a plan for how to progress. Perhaps she didn't even have a plan to start with and was hoping it was easy to talk to someone with social anxiety.
"H-how are you?" Charley said because it was getting uncomfortable.
"I'm fine."
"Hm? Can I ask? Why are you so quiet around me? You seem fine when talking to others."
"That's because Owen warned me about you," Lily said.
"Warned?"
'Listen, Lily' Owen said in Lily's memory flashback. 'This girl, this one in this picture. You've met her before but trust me, she is the devil. Absolutely the worst creature imaginable. Her sister is just as bad. It's a family of evil that will curse you for years to come. Once you get involved, escape is impossible. Take it from me, I've already abandoned all hope of escape. So it's up to you to run. Don't think. Just run.'
"THAT a.s.sHOLE!" Charley screamed as she pulled out a knife and started walking towards Owen's cla.s.sroom.

"Ah, no wait!" Lily said, just able to stop her.
"So," Charley said, "Shall we get down to business?"
"Erm, w-what business?" Lily asked.
"Isn't it obvious? We must talk about Sean!"
Charley dragged Lily into the library where she knew Sean wouldn't be. The two of them hid at the furthest point where all the kids who mess about would often hide and began their sacred conversation.
"What do you want to know?" Lily said as if she was attempting to hide.
"Do you like him?" Charley asked as if interrogating Lily, with a large light s.h.i.+ning brightly above her head.
"W-what?" Lily said fl.u.s.tering and flailing about. "I-i… L-like him as a f-friend…"
"Right. How does he see you?" Charley asked.
"I-i don't know." Charley kept throwing questions at Lily who was able to dodge them. It was as if she could see them coming from miles away, each shot that was launched was carefully navigated around and no information was leaked. Maybe there was no information to leak. Perhaps this was an empty barrel.
"D-didn't you get rejected?" Lily said to Charley who entered cardiac arrest.
"Wha? What are you talking about?! Who told you that?!"
"O-Owen" Lily responded pulling her hoodie over her face, activating all systems of cuteness.
"THAT PIECE OF s.h.i.+T!" Charley said as she started forging a knife out of the blood of her previous enemies. Now Owen was to be added to the sword.
"H-he said you were nice." Lily squeaked.
"What? Who did?" Charley asked.
"O-Owen."
"Hmpf. That doesn't mean anything coming from him." She said clearly happy with the compliment. There wasn't a soul in the room that would a.s.sume she was upset after hearing that.
"WHATEVER!" Charley screamed bringing her back to reality. "Back to the topic! Who does Sean like?!"
"I-I don't know," Lily said.
"d.a.m.n, I guess it's true," Charley said admitting defeat. "Owen told me to give up but it's not that easy."
Lily stared at the flattened Charley who rested on the table and scribbled with a loose hand.
"I...I think that's ok." Lily said. "It's ok to take your time… but… if Sean doesn't choose you… you have to accept that. Accepting that you've lost is the hardest part. I think it takes a lot just to accept that you loved him. I don't know if I love anyone. But if I did. I'd want it to be a guy like Sean."
"Oh, Lily," Charley said as she thought deeply about the words that she spoke. "You are just so cute!" She screamed flipping a mental switch.
"You are right," Charley said. "I don't know if I will ever move on, or if I'll be picked. I'm sure I'd only mess things up by pressing it further. It wouldn't be fair for Sean."
"Y-yeah."
The two of them sat in silence until the bell rang, signally the end of lunch.
"Well," Charley said springing out of her seat. "May the best woman win!"
She held out her hand with a smile plastered around her face only to be met with confusion.
"W-what do you mean."
"Oh come on!" Charley said. "Just shake my hand!"
The two of them shook hands and Charley quickly began to leave the library.
"W-wait!" Lily called out causing Charley to turn around. "Can we be friends!"
"Friends?" Charley repeated. "Aren't we already friends?"
Friends is a word that means different things to everyone. It's not easy for people like Lily to make friends as there may be impossible for Lily to trust. Even so, sometimes it's worth the risk.
