Chapter 56: Thief

'huh!'

Abium flabbergasted. But soon, he recovered from the shock and tried to thrust his sword at that human. Out of nowhere, a jet black chain emerged from that creature's chest.

'Clang.'

He astonished by that chain's speed. Following instant, his hair stood up.

'Danger!'

"Blazing s.h.i.+eld!"

Next instant, a fire s.h.i.+eld covered his whole body and appeared like an orange flame. But what made his eyes wide was, his body didn't felt any hot feeling; instead, a warm feeling appeared. Only then he noticed through that flame, another two chains coming from both sides.

'Boom!'

Both chains collided with his defensive spell and quickly broke through that s.h.i.+eld in a second. Fire sparks spread everywhere as finally, the whole s.h.i.+eld cracked like gla.s.s.

But that would enough for Abium to evade those chains and could deal some damage to the enemy. This time, Abium used the advanced sword aura and slashed the snake's head on the right side.

'Slas.h.!.+' "s.h.i.+EEKKKK."

Soon, that snake's head once again falls, and the sliced area got burned entirely. Advanced sword aura not only able to cut through hardest metals, but it could also do damage to the cellular level.

Other snakehead stared at him with deep crimson eyes and soon started to attack him, even fiercer.

More than that, he felt evil energy all over that creature's body. Miasmas! Gas like miasmas formed around its body and started to erode the surroundings.

'It's gonna use the first-tier spell!'

"Escape!" He shouted out loud and teleported away, using three times that blink spell.

A giant red orb appeared from another snake's mouth and threw it towards Abium.

"BOOM!" Darkness, along with red waves, affected the surrounding areas and started to erode.

Next instant, that creature moved towards him with wide-opened claws in an unimaginable speed and tried to rip off his body.

'Blink.' He teleported once again and appeared behind that creature and stabbed from it's back.

Still, there was no use as the wounded area got regenerated quickly made that creature looks invincible!

Cold sweats dripped from his forehead. Before he could back away, one of that black chain with snakehead crept towards his heard.

'Clang.' A knife imbued with yellow aura appeared from his left side and blocked that chain. With a simple glance, Abium saw that black-haired girl was the one that threw that knife.

Abium quickly backed away and observed that creature. If he simply used sword aura to battle this creature, he knew his mana would dry out soon. Already he almost used up half of his mana.

Every chain moved in unpredictable direction made him rethink those chains might have a separate soul too.

'Hm? What is that?' Suddenly a small red light emerged from that creature's chest.

'Demon core? But this creature hasn't completely demonized, right?' A suspicion appeared in his mind. Why would this creature even here? He thought of asking those two girls, but he didn't have any time for that. That creature seems to have already prepared for its next attack.

A large amount of mana started to gather from the surroundings.

"It's going to use innate spell! Getaway as far as possible." He shouted out loud. Both Sara and Lily also seem to understand the situation and jumped from that terrace while Abium followed them. Suddenly, the blonde-haired girl threw a knife imbued with an intermediate sword aura towards that creature.

"ARGHHHHH!" A high pitched noise echoed from the terrace as the building began to shake.

Soon, Abium saw blue fire came out from its mouth and spread in every direction. Within a few seconds, the whole building started to burn in blue flame while that creature moved walked towards their direction.

While he was racking through his brain, he suddenly noticed his badge.

'Yes! I almost forgot I have a first-tier defensive spell inside this badge.'

He quickly stopped his running and returned to look at that creature. He had only one chance to attack. If he failed to kill that creature, then Abium knew a large number of casualties could happen.

In the past, there was no mentioning of this creature, but now another abnormality appeared that made him frown. He quickly thought which skill that might help him to kill this creature.

'I need to burn this creature completely; otherwise, it will regenerate.'

His figure soon dashed forward towards that creature while he imbued every mana inside his body to his sword. Soon, the aura formed into crimson-colored, and slowly, the crimson aura began to gather at the tip of his sword.

At the same time, Abium tapped his golden badge and activated the small magic array rune circle inside.

A thin layer of air began to surround his body, and it almost looked like an invisible s.h.i.+eld.

The next moment, Abium already stood in front of that creature while that invisible s.h.i.+eld completely blocked those venomous snake-headed chains.

"DIE!" With a scream, Abium thrust his sword directly into that creature's chest where that red light was emitting. The sword directly cut through its tough skin and followed by that crimson aura started to spread towards that creature's skill.

"s.h.i.+EEKKKK!" It let out a high pitched scream and wailed in pain. But Abium didn't stop with that. Instead, he pulled out his sword and slashed at that creature upright. The scream quickly stopped as the sword finally reached the ground.

'splas.h.!.+'

Dark blood splattered everywhere while corroding the areas, and that creature's body slowly separated into two.

"THUD." THUD."

Both sliced bodies fell on the ground leaving the area in silence.

Soon, those two bodies started to shrink as those snakeheads began to turn into ash. Then, within a few seconds, a human with a corroded face appeared.

'So, he is the one who got demonized, huh!' He gave a pitiful look and s.h.i.+fted his gaze towards a broken, small red core. It slowly began to crumble, leaving a small white metal.

'What is this?' Abium quickly picked it up and inspected it.

[Item: Shard of Madness]

'What is this the shard of Madness mean?' He asked in puzzlement.

'It's a simple broken piece of divinity kid. Each shard has different powers, and you wouldn't find this in our plane, kid.'

'Is this also considered as a divinity?' He curiously asked. He knew the power of divinity and though he must have extremely lucky.

'No. It's just a broken piece, kid. You had to collect ten shards of the same domain to convert these into a divinity.'

'10, huh!' He nodded and put it inside his spatial ring.

'So, this shard was the reason that guy become so powerful, right?'

'Yes, kid, That is the reason that guy gained that much strength, but even if he completed into a fully-fledged demon, he wouldn't be able to use this shard.'

'Why is that?' He asked and checked that guy's body.

'Didn't you see that name? It's a madness shard kid. It will make one's mind become corrupt and finally push them towards a crazy state.'

Abium finally started to understand why this guy acted like that before he went silent. But still, another thing puzzled him.

'But why are those two snakeheads completely fine?' When fighting against this creature, he felt they acted like animals attacked their prey.

'Of course, they won't be affected, kid. Those snakes are the children of this shard's original owner.'

'So, there is no use for me, huh?'

Silence answered as he s.h.i.+fted his gaze towards two figures who looked at him with a dumbfounded expression. They hadn't expected this elf to kill that creature with less difficulty.

"Now, tell me, why did you plot this a.s.sa.s.sination?" Abium glared particularly at Sara and asked.

"W-Well, she didn't kill him intentionally. This guy forced us and said he would only let us go if we finish this job." Lily responded.

"But, there was no benefit in killing that king, right? Tell me, what are you hiding?"

"Ha! This guy's master was after something in the royal treasury. But it seems only two persons have the authority to open that treasury."

'So, that a.s.sa.s.sination really was a distraction. Now onto the main topic.'

"One is Former king Lucius, and the other is Late King Seawallus, right?" Lily's eyes wide opened at Abium's guess. Of course, she would, because they planted spies inside the royal castle and even mage tower to find out about that information. No one could go near to that treasury because that treasury has a guardian protecting it.

Even with her high-level stealth skill, she wouldn't even manage to get near to that area. Some said it was another third-tier being, while others said it was the ancestral spirit, but no one knew the real answer.

After the years of hard work, they finally managed to gain that information and proceeded their plan further. But now an unknown elf suddenly came and just told Lily those answers made her mind go blank for a moment.

Sara gave a slight pat at her sister's shoulder and woke her up from the shock. She gave an apologetic look and continued.

"Yes, With former king guarding that treasury all the time, Iskax's master made a plan a few years ago and somehow even managed to cursed King Seawallus's soul," Abium listened to her explanation and slightly startled inside.

'It appears they schemed this plan a few years ago. So, that explained why king how king got cursed.'

"He also planted a spy inside the magic tower and perfectly waited for the opportunity."

"So, how this can your organization's head help from killing the King Seawallus?" He asked. If they kidnapped him, then that would help them enter that treasury easily. As he was racking through his brain, a reply came from Sara.

"The royal treasury can also be opened using spirit energy. So, my work was to capture that king's soul and enslave it inside a dagger."

Once she gave him the answer, Abium instantly understood. He knew demons would slave mortals souls but didn't expect they even managed to enslaved that king.

'so, they killed two birds in one stone, huh!"

"So, where is that dagger?" He asked Sara in curious.

"She already gave that dagger to this guy, and a red-colored snake took that and went somewhere. If you find that snake, kill it quickly; otherwise, it will cause problems." Lily said while shaking her head. He nodded with a sour expression. Inside her mind, she was feeling a little restless as she stole something that belongs to this half-elf.

'If he found out I stole a magic stone, he might come after us.'

"Thank you for the information. Now onto the real business. Miss Lily, it's very impolite to take my magic stones without my approval." He spoke with an evil grin.

Lily cursed herself for showing her skills on a mage's spatial ring.

"S-Sorry! I didn't mean any harm. It just a habit of mine."

Abium still showed an evil grin and continued.

"But you do know what has both of you done, right?" Both nodded with a nervous expression on their faces.

"Especially you! You killed the King in front of all n.o.bles. If they found out you are still in the capital, then the whole army may come after you." Once he finished his speaking, a sudden silence appeared. Slowly he saw peoples were started to coming towards their direction and thought of ending his talk.

"If I just informed them, even mages would come after your head."

Finally, Lily understood his intention and asked with a glare.

"What do you want us to do?"

"Haha, you are a very sharp one, unlike your sister here."

Abium first s.h.i.+fted his gaze towards Sara and spoke.

"You have to hide inside Baron's mansion for the next few days. I think you can easily sneak into there. Here, this is the address." Abium finished his talk as he gave a small paper to Sara. Then he quickly returned his gaze to Lily and asked.

"Do you know what was that material your organization was after?" She gave him a long look and shook her head.

"No one knew that answer, even Iskax. But I knew it is much more valuable than any other materials."

"How can you be so sure?"

"I am a thief, and I know how much effort these guys put for obtaining that material." Abium nodded in understanding.

"Can you able to steal that material from that snake as you stole from me earlier?"

"I need to be at least five-meter close to that snake." She gave him an honest reply, then continued.

"But what is there for us? What can I get from angering that snake?" She looked directly into his eyes and asked.

"Freedom. That is the thing you want, right? Freedom from the slave traders, freedom from this kingdom. Maybe one day, you will be able to walk along with your sister in this same royal capital with no fear."

He stimulated her desire for freedom and spoke to her like a devil.

"I knew there is no free lunch in this world. If I did this, do I have to do these kinds of jobs in the future?" She gave him a suspicious glance and probed.

"No. As long as you didn't try to rob my spatial ring, I won't disturb you. You can stay in my territory without paying any taxes for the rest of your life. Of course, whenever my territory is in danger, then you have to help me."

Long silence appeared, and soon, Lily agreed while giving a warm hug to her sister.

"Sara! Go to that address and wait for me. I will come back once I finish the job."

"Take care, sis." Sara nodded her head and left there towards the southern direction leaving two of them alone.

"Shall we go?" Lily nodded her head while sending one last look at the south then followed after Abium.
