Chapter 4: Epic Level Lautner
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
It was bright and sunny outside the treehouse, the gra.s.s and leaves were green and bright while the colorful flowers never fell.
The Border Town was near the borders of the Blackleaf Forest. The place was part of the subtropics and was near the southern seas, so the ocean breeze never left and the temperature wasn’t too high. The weather was similar to a spring day all throughout the year, so the scenery never changed and was always as beautiful as a painting.
The town was built on a cliff that was at least eighty meters tall. There was a narrow but deep river that flowed down from the mountain lakes, pa.s.sing through the center of the town before it flowed into a waterfall as it fell down the cliff. It would even form an everlasting rainbow, which was why the town was called the Rainbow River.
Meanwhile, the eighty meters tall cliff provided a natural barrier for the town’s neutrality and was the town’s greatest advantage!
If not for the cliff, being between the Iron Nation and the Black Lava Nation, they would often be disturbed by the two nations.
Being in the Bright Camp didn’t mean they were good, and being in the Dark Camps didn’t necessarily mean they were completely evil… That was impossible.
Everything was caught in between the races and interests, which was why there were many wars amongst the human nations and also amongst the Orc tribes.
The town was not surrounded entirely by the mountains or dense forests. If they walked towards the east or west, towards the edges of the cliffs, there was a very large piece of land with black soil.
Many agricultural products could be planted here. So for the peasants who were only trying to feed the town, it was plentiful.
South of the town was the Blackleaf Forest that extended in all directors. The town was located by a small, narrow area by the mountain. Once you crossed the mountain on the southern side, you would even be able to see the endless ocean.
However, there were countless magical beasts and wild beasts, of different levels, living in the depths of the Blackleaf Forest. The stronger the magical beasts were, the deeper into the forest they would be found. There would even be several wild dragons.
After all, the Blackleaf Elves weren’t the only ones living in the Blackleaf Forest. There were many other intelligent beings living there as well.
The half-blooded Elves and pure-blooded Elves that lived in the town had a lot fewer requirements than the humans because they didn’t really like to eat grains and often liked to go hunting in the Blackleaf Forest. Every time they went into the forest, they would obtain platy, fruits, and meat with their own ability.
Because there weren’t too many high-leveled preys at the Southern mountain, as long as people didn’t risk their lives by exploring out of the area, it would be rather difficult for them to see higher-leveled wild beasts or magical beasts.
The Elves in G.o.ds were omnivores. Although they ate fruits and vegetables as well, their main food was meat. After all, when the Elves wanted to stand at the top of the social pyramid, they definitely wouldn’t have the energy to do so just by eating pure vegetarian food.
The handsome, cool William Blackleaf with pointy ears, was currently wearing a magnificent dark purple gown as he walked out of the treehouse. After he activated the player’s screen, his leg injury healed very quickly. He had to admit, players still took a very large advantage in this world.
After all, pastors in this world couldn’t really add health points when they wanted to. They could only heal injuries and use buffs to stay alive.
Because the pastors in the game didn’t purely support characters and they were all super buff men that carried flails to restrain deceased souls. They were all super muscular and durable.
They would shout for the Saint loudly, as they carried their flails and rushed forward into battle…
Be it NPCs or players, regaining some health power required body capability and taking potions. The water elemental mages were almost the same as the pastors and were able to have some healing skills. However, the skills only sped up the healing of wounds, so the effect was about the same.
However, mages were mages after all, and not an occupation that was created just to support others.
In his previous life, there weren’t many people playing mages. The occupation had been avoided like it was krypton. If players wanted to develop the character, they needed to have luck too, since they could only depend on their devil-catching tools to earn money. However, strong mages were extremely popular, as long as they were free to catch the devils…
“My Lord, it seems as though your injury is almost healed!” When two Elves guarding the treehouse saw him walk out, they bowed respectfully and patted their chest. No matter how much they disliked William, they would never do anything disrespectful to him.
“Yes, I should be fine now. How’s the development of the territory?” William glanced at the two Elves, Norton and Nox. The two pure-blooded Blackleaf Elves were his personal guards.
They were both middle-level professionals at level 40. They were at least ten levels stronger than usual guards, the key factor is that they had Master bloodline and a fairly good attribute.
Even though he was only level 8, he could see their attributes with just a glance because they were his soldiers. He could see whoever he wanted as long as they were loyal to him. As for the others, he just had to use his insight. Being both an NPC and player gave William the greatest advantage in surviving.
Norton and Nox glanced at their Lord in surprise, before they both shook their heads. “Ever since my Lord decided to rebuild the town, several people have fled, so the developmental progress doesn’t look too good.
“Do you want me to ask Executive Lautner to come over? He has been the one in charge of the issues within the territory.”
“I’ve just realized that the town is in a good position and it isn’t time to rebuild it. Instead, we should host several hunting events and make some magical beast fleeces to sell at the humans’ nation. We should still be able to earn some gold coins.
“Please take me to Uncle Lautner.
“I don’t know why, but I seemed to have hurt my head after I fell down from the tree. Some of my memories have become really blurred and I can’t remember where Uncle Lautner’s house is anymore!” William acted as he caressed his head.
Norton nodded, thinking that his Lord’s head seemed to have started working after his fall!
The town wasn’t very big.
With a population of only 3000 people, the town was considered small.
A good majority stayed in tree houses made from giant trees. If not, they would get wood to build their wooden houses. The design was simple and they were barely strong enough.
After all, they were in the subtropics, so they never had to worry about the cold.
Apart from his treehouse that had been enchanted, every other building in the town was very simple.
Especially since many people and soldiers had taken things with them when they left after his Father disappeared…
“There are a hundred things to be done! Once I reached level 10, I have to quickly change my occupation to be a beginner level professional!” William had chosen to be a human in his previous life and was a warrior that had required a lot of effort to develop.
Although he wasn’t able to find any hidden occupations at the start of the game, there was a chance for everything ultimately. After a few years of effort, he finally got the chance and changed his occupation into a hidden one.
If not, to become Legendary, he could only put in the effort and depend on his equipment and attributes to complete his missions.
He had thought that he was useless to begin with, as he only had 3 luck points both in his previous life and current life, wasn’t this a proof then?
This was the continuation of being useless.
The continuation of something that even time and s.p.a.ce couldn’t defeat made William so touched he almost wanted to cry…
After walking for about three minutes, William finally saw Uncle Lautner. He had once been his Mother’s personal guard and was now the town’s executive and his life mentor…
Every physical job required training their battle energy.
Just like how any magical job required meditation and magic.
As long as he was level 10, he would be able to learn battle energy or magic, then choose the occupation that he liked.
However, what made William even more surprised and happy about Lautner’s attribute page was that he never expected his own territory to have such a precious master around.
Name: Lautner
Race: Blackleaf Elf
Occupation: Devil Hunter Ranger

Endowment: …
Health: 15300

“What is endowment…? This is being endowed, alright?!” William couldn’t help but mutter sadly in his heart.
Next, he said with teary eyes, “Uncle Lautner, thank you!”
He even wanted to hug Lautner tightly as he spoke.
Seeing this, Lautner felt weirdly calmed and at ease. He had found out from Sia that the current William Blackleaf seemed to have injured his head. However, he had become a lot more polite than before.
That was why he glanced at William as if he was showing concern and care to an idiot as he said slowly, “It’s alright, it’s something I should do. Besides, you should call me Executive, not Uncle Lautner.”
William wiped away the drops of tears that never appeared, pouting his lips stubbornly, “No, I can’t. Uncle Lautner is my Uncle forever. You’re not only my Executive, but you’re also my teacher. Although I have lost a lot of my memories, I know that you’re the nicest to me in this world.”
“Let’s go look at the development of the territory now. If this continues, the territory your Father left for you will probably disappear on this land!” Lautner was slightly awkward, but he felt extremely happy and satisfied. This child that he had watched grow up finally knew how to respect him.
It seems as if hitting his head was a good thing.
“However, why are you touching my biceps?” Lautner didn’t know what to say. How could he know that William was filled with an indescribable adoration for Lautner after knowing his Epic bloodline and the feel of his strong biceps?
