~ Seattle, Sabrina's apartment ~

Sat.u.r.day

10:02 AM

Sabrina woke up when her phone rang. She usually wakes up easily, but she barely slept last night and that is why she is finding it unusually difficult to move and answer her phone.

Her heart is aching unbearably, and she has no idea what she did after Ashton left the FD Studio or how she managed to reach her apartment. Everything is a blur.

Usually, when she is stressed, Sabrina goes to her parents. The Anderson family villa gives her comfort and security, just how it did twenty years ago. But not this time. She had to go to her apartment, because she hoped that Ashton will come and that she can explain it to him. Everything.

She even slept in the guest bedroom, so that she does not miss him when he arrives. But he didn't come.

Through the night, Sabrina was hugging Ashton's pillow and inhaling his scent which lingered between the bedsheets, but Ashton was not there.

Sabrina replayed in her mind Jackson's visit to the FD Studio from that day, over and over again while trying to understand what Ashton went though.

At some point, Sabrina remembered that Jackson glanced on the side before he approached her and kissed her cheek. And then he stayed super-close until she backed off. At that time, she didn't think much of it, but now she knows that Jackson noticed Ashton and he acted extrcaring just to spite Ashton. And that means that even if Jackson is not absolutely confident that there is something between her and Ashton, he has a fairly good idea. b.a.s.t.a.r.d! He did that on purpose, just to get Ashton riled up and to draw a wedge between them! And the worst part is that he succeeded!

Sabrina is miserable. All this would be avoided if she was honest with Ashton (and Jackson) from the beginning. Ah, she would give anything for a time machine. If there is such a thing as a do-over, Sabrina would never accept to be Jackson's fiancée. If she can't travel so far in the past, she will settle with one day, and she would not let Ashton go to Delphine's office, she would make him sit and listen while she tells him everything. Or at least the summary that engagement between her and Jackson is such a joke that other than that fake kiss on the cheek, there was no other intimacy between the two of them.

Ah, but none of those are a possibility. And dwelling on the past will not do any good. The only thing Sabrina can do is to fix the present, for the sake of the future.

Sabrina left Ashton numerous voice and text messages, and her heart sank deeper every time the call went to the voicemail directly. She wondered if he blocked her number or turned off his phone, or maybe his phone ran out of battery.

She hoped that nothing happened to him. What if Jackson hurt Ashton? 'No, that is not an option', Sabrina comforted herself. If Jackson did anything to Ashton, he would call and rub it in. Or he would use Ashton to blackmail her into obedience, but he would not just hurt Ashton. And Sabrina knows this because Jackson never does anything if it does not benefit him.

It was morning when she finally slept off.

Back to the present…

Sabrina grumbled. It took her a long time to sleep off and now the phone woke her up. It better be important!

She picked up the call. "Yes?"

"Hey…", the familiar deep voice she is craving for swept inside her ear, and Sabrina was snapped awake.

She glanced at the caller ID to make sure that her ears are not playing tricks on her and sat on the bed abruptly. "Ashton?"

"Yeah… Listen, I am sorry that I didn't call earlier…"

Her heart cracked when she heard the sadness in his voice. And she is hurting as well.

"That's OK. No need to explain.", Sabrina interrupted him in a shaky voice. She does not need his apologies or explanations; she needs him to come back to her. "If one of us needs to explain anything, that would be me. Can we talk? Please?"

Sabrina held her breath while waiting for Ashton to respond. Why is he not saying anything? That can't be good. Is he thinking of staying away from her? No, she will not allow it. Not until she tells him everything.

"Ashton? Please, give me a chance to tell you the truth…", she pleaded.

Her heart resumed beating when she heard him say: "I will be at your place at noon."

"Our place…", Sabrina corrected him, but he already ended the call.

Sabrina slumped back on the bed, devastated that things reached this point. But at the same time, she is happy that Ashton will come. She will not allow him to leave until he hears the truth. This time, she will not mess up.

Sabrina hugged the pillow and noticed that it's damp. It reminded her that she cried last night. A lot.

She thought about how this is unbelievable. In just a few days, Ashton integrated himself into her being and when they are apart, it hurts.

Sabrina decided to go and clean herself up. She is still wearing the clothes from yesterday and considering that her eyes are burning from crying and lack of sleep, she probably looks like a hot mess.

Sabrina got out of the master bathroom with a large towel tightly wrapped around her body and another one rolled on her head. She went to her closet to pick the perfect outfit. Ashton is coming, and she wants to dress up for him.

She flipped through the dressed on the hangers for some time because nothing seemed to be good enough… and then her eyes fell on a light blue summer dress. Sabrina bought it a few weeks ago, and didn't have a chance to wear it yet, but she remembers that the dress hugs her waist and fits well her bust area, exposing her cleavage slightly. Perfect.

Sabrina was blow-drying her hair when the apartment intercom rang. She turned off the blow-drier. Who could it be? She exhaled while thinking that it's Ashton. It's barely past eleven and he said noon, but it can be only Ashton. The fact that he didn't use his card key to come up and let himself in with his pa.s.scode, tells her that he is angry.

Sabrina stood up and realized that she is only in her underwear. Well, she wants to seduce Ashton, but this is too much. She swiftly slipped her blue summer dress on and went to answer the intercom.

"Miss Anderson…", the security guy from the lobby called. "I am Cameron from security…"

Sabrina was about to say, 'let him in', but then she heard the rest: "Mr. Adams is here to see you."

Sabrina's head was buzzing, and she was confident that her ears malfunctioned. "Who?"

A second later, the security guy repeated. "Mr. Jackson Adams."

After a moment of being unable to think, her mind started working a thousand thoughts a second. Why is Jackson here? Should she let him up? Did he come here to cause trouble? What's with this timing?

Anger swelled inside Sabrina when she remembered how Jackson acted extra caring yesterday on purpose, only because Ashton was there. That only proved that Jackson is extra cunning, but if he thinks how that will prevent her from breaking up with him, he is gravely mistaken. Because of his action, Ashton left, and she cried herself to sleep. She will not allow that to happen again.

Sabrina encouraged herself by repeating Max's words. Max is right, she will not get married to Jackson, and because of that, she needs to break up with him. As soon as possible.

Sabrina pushed the intercom b.u.t.ton. "Cameron…"

"Yes, Miss Anderson?"

"He can come up in five minutes. I just got out of the shower and I need to dress up. Five minutes will be enough."

"OK. Miss Anderson. I will let him up in five minutes."

"Thanks, Cameron."

The two bodyguards Max a.s.signed to Sabrina are not with her now. She is safe in her building, Jackson can't come to her apartment without her approval. But Jackson is coming to her place now, and she still needs some insurance in case he acts out of line. She never thought about Jackson as a violent person, but Max and Hunter said things yesterday that scared her.

Sabrina took a deep breath and dashed to get her phone.

She dialed Max and paced through the living room until he picked up.

"Jackson is coming to my place.", Sabrina said as soon as Max answered.

"Now?", displeasure in Max's voice was obvious.

"Yes. He will come up in five minutes."

Max didn't like that she allowed Jackson to come to her apartment, but that means that she is up to something. "What are you planning?"

"I will break up with him."

"I will be at your place in fifteen minutes." Max ended the call without waiting to hear Sabrina's response.

Sabrina looked at her phone and smiled. She knew that she could rely on Max. Now she confirmed that she will be about ten minutes on her own with Jackson.

She checked the time: 11:17 AM.

If all goes as planned, when Ashton comes at noon, she will be free from Jackson. That is a thought which lifts her spirit up.

She told herself to focus because she needs to deal with an unpleasant breakup first. Who knows, maybe Jackson will be understanding. Maybe.
