~ Seattle, the Franciscan Medical Center ~

Room 570

9:52 AM

Mr. and Mrs. Wilson are in Tyler's room observing doctors and nurses who are busying themselves around their son.

Since Tyler woke up, his parents are eager to talk to him and find out how he found himself in this sorry state.

However, as soon as Tyler woke up, the doctors took him for different scans and tests and by the time they returned, two police officers waited in front of the room to get Tyler's statement.

The police officers asked Tyler what happened to what he responded that he does not remember. There is not much the police can do if the victim does not cooperate. They left their contact numbers and told Tyler to give them a call if he remembers anything.

When the police officers left, nurses returned for more checks and Tyler is hoping that all these people will go away and leave him alone.

Tyler woke up and at first he was in a daze. Where is he? Why is everything aching? Who are all these people around him? He decided not to answer any questions until he figures out what is going on. After all, he does not want to risk exposing himself to more trouble and based on everything happening around him, he is in trouble already.

Tyler did his best to remember how he found himself in this situation. He remembered his encounter with Elizabeth in the parking lot. Did she beat him this badly? Not possible. He went to the Liquid Essence after that and he was fine. Almost fine.

Did Leon and his friends do this? In his mind Tyler saw a bottle of vodka and him downing gla.s.s after gla.s.s and… why did he drink so much so that he can't remember?

"Tyler, how are you feeling?", Mrs. Wilson asked when the last nurse left.

Tyler frowned. His mother being here can't be a good thing. She never skips going to work.

"c.r.a.ppy. I want to sleep.", Tyler grumbled. Every muscle in his body aches, and even though he has no broken bones, even breathing hurts. Luckily, the medications are working so it's bearable.

"Before you sleep, can you tell us who you offended?", Mrs. Wilson asked.

Tyler paused. What kind of a question is that? He offended practically half of Seattle, alright? But he can't give such a snarky response to his mother.

Tyler wondered, is his state because of the displeased customer or one of his 'sources' came for revenge because he revealed some sensitive information? He needs to find out more. "What makes you think I offended someone?"

Mrs. Wilson did her best to keep her composure while handing him the note. "We found you at our doorstep with a note attached to you. Don't tell us that this was a random brawl in the bar."

Tyler read the note three times while random flashes came to his mind. And each of them had an image of Max. Max? What was he doing at the Liquid Essence? Not possible. His memories are jumbled, and he is seeing random things. The last thing Tyler wants to admit is that he messed up with an Anderson. He reminded himself to be cool.

Tyler tore the note into two before returning it to his mother without a word.

"Tyler, son… this is serious.", Mr. Tyler said.

Tyler sneered at his father. "Don't you think I know that it's serious? Look at me!"

"We need to know who you offended.", Mrs. Wilson persisted.

Tyler exhaled and closed his eyes. How is he supposed to answer this if he does not know?

The door opened and Tyler saw the doctor who is in charge of his condition, Dr. Shaw.

"Thank you Dr. Williams for coming here on a short notice.", Dr. Shaw said and held the door for the person he is talking to.

"Not a problem Dr. Shaw. I have my next patient in twenty minutes, until then, my time is yours.", Liz responded, and her eyes met Tyler's.

"This is the patient?", Liz asked without removing her sight from now pale Tyler.

The faint smile at the edge of her lips made Tyler nervous.

Tyler wondered, why is Max's girlfriend here? And she is wearing a doctor's coat and everything!

"Yes. He has multiple injuries to the muscle tissue and several cuts. No fractures are observed at the x-ray, but I am concerned about his head injuries, and about possible damage to the nerves in the cervical and lumbar area of the spine…", Dr. Shaw told Liz and turned to Tyler's parents: "This is Dr. Williams, the neurosurgeon at the Franciscan Medical Center. I called her to get the second opinion about Tyler's injuries. I don't want to risk missing something, and she is the expert in the area of the nervous system."

Liz greeted Mr. and Mrs. Williams under the watchful eye of Tyler.

Liz has a good understanding of Tyler's family. She asked Max about Tyler during their morning coffee and Max told her about two businesses that Tyler's parents own and that he has two younger sisters who are currently in college.

"Thank you for taking care of Tyler, Dr. Williams.", Tyler's mom said with a smile. "Pardon me for talking bluntly, but you look young for a neurosurgeon."

Liz smiled meekly. "I get that a lot. But I a.s.sure you that I earned my degree with hard work and that Tyler is not my first patient."

"Dr. Williams is a rising star in this hospital. She is our youngest practicing MD.", Dr. Shaw said enthusiastically.

"I didn't mean it in a bad way.", Mrs. Wilson said apologetically. "I admire young people who are not wasting their time."

Liz waved her hand, indicating that it's OK. "It's not a problem. But enough about me… Let's look at the patient."

Liz checked Tyler's chart in silence for a minute before approaching Tyler. "Can you sit up? I want to examine your neck from the back."

Tyler's face contorted when he remembered the paralyzing pain from Monday. Is she going to hurt him again?

"Relax…", Liz said softly when her fingers landed on Tyler's neck and he jolted. "I promise that this will not hurt."

Her fingers moved along Tyler's spine and she pursed her lips. "Dr. Shaw, this would be more accurate if he is not under painkillers."

"I know Dr. Williams. But his injuries are extensive and without the painkillers he would be in agony.", Dr. Shaw said helplessly.

Liz nodded in understanding. "These are serious injuries. I would recommend a complete MRI scan. It will give us more details than the CT scan, and then we can take it from there."

"I will get that ordered to be done by lunch time."

"Thank you. I will stop by in the afternoon after the results are in.", Liz responded with her professional smile on.

At that time, a nurse opened the door and walked in while carrying a basket of fruits. "Excuse me, there is a delivery…"

Mrs. Wilson took the card. "Anderson? You are on good terms with Anderson?", she beamed at her son.

Tyler froze. "Anderson, who?"

"The card is from Maximilian Anderson. He is wis.h.i.+ng you a fast recovery…", Mrs. Wilson said while handing the card to Tyler.

"How does he know that you are here?", Mr. Wilson asked suspiciously.

Mrs. Wilson waved her hand. "They are Andersons. They know everything."

Liz observed this interaction and she didn't miss that Tyler's mom is swooning over Max and an idea formed in her mind… "Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, it was a pleasure to meet you. Will you be here in the afternoon?"

Mrs. Wilson shook her head regrettably. "I must go to my company. I have a feeling that nothing gets done if I'm not there."

"You own a business?", Liz asked.

"Yes. I support local fas.h.i.+on designers and I am designer myself.", Mrs. Wilson said proudly.

Liz smiled. She was waiting for this. "How lovely. Are you going to attend our fundraiser on Sat.u.r.day?"

Mrs. Wilson cleared her throat awkwardly. "I'm sorry, I am not familiar with that event."

"Don't worry about it. Some of the major companies from the area will attend, including the Andersons from the Alpha group. It is a great opportunity for networking with likeminded people. Are you interested? I can get you an invitation."

A big smile bloomed on Mrs. Wilson's face and her eyes sparkled while looking at Liz. "Are you sure it's not a problem?"

"I will be happy if you can come. You seem to be a nice lady, and it's not a problem to get you into the event."

"Oh, that sounds wonderful...", Mrs. Wilson beamed at Liz.

"If you give me your contact information, I will ensure that you get an invitation by end of the day."

Mrs. Wilson happily gave Liz her business card and thanked her profusely for taking good care of Tyler.

Liz excused herself. She has other patients and can't linger.

Mr. Wilson watched his wife and nodded in approval. "No wonder your business is doing well. You are great in communicating with people."

Mrs. Wilson's smile fell when she saw Tyler who is staring blankly in front of him. "Do you see that girl? She looks younger than you, and she is a neurosurgeon. Such a sweet girl."

"She is not sweet.", Tyler said through his teeth.

Mrs. Wilson snorted. "Why don't you use your eyes to see what is good? I would be happy if she is my daughter-in-law, but seeing how brilliant Dr. Williams is, she is probably taken. Look at people like Dr. Williams and get inspired to strive for greatness. And not to go around gossiping and insulting people to the point of them threatening my business!"

Mrs. Wilson realized that she raised her voice and she took few deep breaths to calm down before looking at her husband. "I see that Tyler will be fine. I'm going to work."

"I will join you." Mr. Wilson said before turning to Tyler: "I will stop by after work. If anything urgent happens, give me a call."

Mrs. Wilson stopped on her way out and looked at Tyler. "This is not over. I want to know who left us that note. You have until the end of the day before I cut you off financially. In that case we will stop our payments for your rent and for the boat."

Tyler did his best to ignore his mom. He waved them goodbye and closed his eyes while trying to figure out what happened after he reached the Liquid Essence. With all this commotion, he was unable to focus. Now he finally has some peace.

Max sent him a fruit basket? Tyler had a bad feeling about it. In the next moment, voices rang in his head...

"Do you know what you did?"

"Are you upset because I approached your girl?"

"Good that you know..."

Tyler was sure that someone sucked the oxygen out of the room because he was unable to inhale.
