Cheng Jia's lie was set aside the moment Madam Lin complemented her of being the cutest panda.
It's an honor to the artist's side as well as her sister's, but it is an eerie feeling from Director Min since he knew how meticulous the madam is in terms of aesthetics.
He looked at the girl beside him and found that despite the dark circles around her eyes, she still looked pretty. He thought...
'If Madam Lin thinks she is the cutest, then she probably is. After all, the madam is known for her exquisite taste on things that looks good.'
A few minutes pa.s.sed...
"If there are no questions, Ms. Jia, please sign here, here, and here."
As if in deep thought, Cheng Jia just stared at the contract while nibbling her lower lip. She looked at Madam Lin then her sister.
Weariness can be seen in her eyes, which both Madam Lin and ZhiYong caught as they stared at each other with concern.
At last ZhiYong spoke, "Ms. Jia, is there anything you didn't like in the contract? Say it now so we can modify it."
After a moment of contemplation, she cheered inwardly, 'Honesty is the best policy!'
"No, it's not like that President w.a.n.g. Before I sign this contract, I'd like to say something. It is up to you to decide if you'll let me continue," she answered with a serious tone.
Jian reached her hand and tapped it then smiled at her in approval.
"Cheng Jia, don't keep us waiting," Director Min's impatient voice rang, which made Jian roll her eyes, inwardly.
"Speak now, dear. Whatever it is, you have my a.s.surance that my judgment will be fair," with a rea.s.suring smile, Madam Lin said.
She sighed as if getting strength from it.
"I just wanted to let you know that I am someone's mother. I may not know a lot, but I know entertainment is chaotic. I'm not sure if my work will be affected by my status as a mother, and I don't plan on keeping the job if it means I have to deny my son. However, please do know that I am accepting the job because I needed it for my child," she said with a serious tone.
It is as if the immature Jiajia turned into a different person upon speaking about her child.
"I don't want to lie because I s*ck in lying. I'm still mastering the art of it. So, as my future boss, I am telling you this so that you'd be aware of what might happen."
There was an eerie silence as she stopped talking, which made Cheng Jia's heart thump endlessly.
'Oh my! Are they thinking of letting me go?'

Her heart beats even faster when Madam Lin gazed at Zhiyong.
'This contact is going to trash bin,' she thought as her gaze landed on the contract.
"Thank you for your honesty, Ms. Cheng."
It is director Min who spoke first.
"I am happy that you are honest. Unlike other artists, who hide away skeletons in their closets, you opt to be transparent. Not many artists are as brave as you. That, I admire about you," he continued.
What the director wanted to point out is that some artists have sometimes twisted the idea that by keeping their secrets, they'd be free from its shadow and will continue to s.h.i.+ne. They often forgot that the more they hide things, the bigger its blow on them when secrets are revealed.
He thought that maybe it is because of the human minds' complexity that makes someone take the easy path.
Humans hate it when someone keeps secrets to them thus they keep on prying when they, themselves have secrets of their own. And when someone is being honest, like Cheng Jia they would often find something negative to ruin the person.
She blinked as she heard the always grumpy director praise her honesty.
"Dear," Madam Lin called her name like she was someone so valuable, "Don't worry about your child's safety while you are under my protection. I can feel that your reason for wanting to have this job because of your child is a necessity. I admire women like you. Since you will be representing my grandchild's legacy, be a.s.sured that my company will attend to your needs."
Madam Lin's words gave a hint of rea.s.surance.
Cheng Jia was happy and looked at her sister with a smile, which was also returned with a wide grin. She also took a glance at the director and madam who both gave a.s.surance to her confession. When her eyes landed on Zhiyong, she became confused as the latter fell on deep silence.
'What is he thinking about? Doesn't he like the fact that I am being honest? Whatever! As if I needed his approval.'
Director Min motioned Cheng Jia to sign the contract, which she happily pulled closer as she stroke her signature neatly on each page which needed to be signed. When she finished, she downed the pen, announcing, "All done."
Zhiyong, who had fallen quiet asked out of nowhere, "How old is your child?"
Cheng Jia creased her brow in confusion. 'What's up with the sudden curiosity?' she thought. However, she answered, "He's turning 4yrs. old."
Zhiyong went silent again, tapping his fingers on the table. Then, lifted his face to meet her eyes, "So, you're saying you're a single mother, aren't you?"
Cheng Jia only nodded, and was replied by Zhiyong with an "I see."
She raised her brows, questioningly at him as he just shrugged his shoulders as an answer, which made her pout. Just when she thought he's done asking, Zhiyong inquired again, "Then, who's the father?"
Zhiyong's question garnered the looks of everyone on him. Not because of prying but because of what seems like an accusatory tone on his voice.
'Wait! That didn't sound right,' he thought to himself.
He cleared his throat, *ahem-ahem* "I mean, where is the father of your child? By the way, it seems, you are the only one working hard for your child. So I just wondered where he is, he should be helping you raise your child even if you're separated. Right?"
In all truth, Madam Lin was astounded at how Zhiyong has been attentive to Cheng Jia. She wondered why Zhiyong suddenly pried on someone else's life, which is unlikely of him.
"Zhiyong, why are you like this to Ms. Cheng so suddenly?"
"I'm sorry. I've stepped over the line."
Cheng Jia nodded and gulped the water in the gla.s.s she was holding.
"He is nowhere to be found. I'd also like to know where he is," there was a long pause which made the atmosphere in the room heavy, "...but I can't," she said not leaving Zhiyong's scrutiny.
"Sometimes, there are questions we cannot answer especially if we don't know what to look for," Cheng Jia added.
Zhiyong nodded his head as if understanding, but in reality, he was in a daze.
