As Paolo exited the forest, he saw a path in front of him, heading towards two opposite directions.

After a few moments of deliberation, he decided to head towards Darren Town.

Before doing so, however, he had to decide what look he had to take on as his persona in this kingdom.

After tweaking the system settings for a bit, a new name and ident.i.ty has been created.

After changing his name, Paolo changed the soul emission as well as facial features he had, transforming into a 1.8 meter person, with a rugged look. There were more muscle this time, making him look like a lean bodybuilder when compared to before.

Paolo took this moment to check his spoils in his inventory. According to the system, the number of beasts that he killed was around 233, and all of them dropped cores of below basic to average quality. The 3 average quality cores came from the 4-star beasts, which had the strength of 2-star beasts on earth.

This was a land of treasure for any esper coming from Earth, with the beasts weaker than that the beasts the appeared on Earth. This benefitted Paolo because he would gain the same amount of system and skill points as he killed a 4-star ranked beast with the strength of a 2-star beast, which amounts to 50,000 skill points. Not only did he manage to pay off the debt in less than a day of hunting, he also earned a lot.

In total, he had around 345,000 skill points and 545,000 system points. He wasn't in a rush to level up, because he knew the system points he had was not enough. Paolo sighed at how devious the leveling system was for him. Others just needed to meditate, kill beasts, and absorb the energy in cores and they would easily level up.

Paolo tried to see the good things the leveling system had for him: He gets to keep the cores, he has a clear path on strengthening himself, he had different abilities that made him well-rounded.

Thinking about this, Paolo thought of a plan to get a footing in Darren City: Setting up a restaurant. Thinking about the ingredients he had, there were multiple recipes that seem to exist only on earth but could still be replicated here.

He just needed to find a capital to establish one. After all, he just gained a few tens of gold coins and equipments. Should he become a mercenary? Or probably rob others then? There's a black market in Darren City, according to the guy's memories. As Paolo walked towards the direction of the City, he saw an alert go off in the system map, showing hostiles close to his position. He checked and saw there were tens of them spread out, as well as several white dots. These red dots were obviously preying those that traverse this area, and were probably bandits.

Paolo prepared in advance and casted this time only the [Water Defense] [Air Defense], as the barriers were too inconspicuous. The white dots were similar to that of the soldiers he met in the forest. The moment they realized he was an esper, they turned red.

I don't need that kind of surprise now, thought Paolo. This brought forth a problem for him: How should he kill the red dots without magic?

Aren't I a magician? Why should I bother with other methods of killing when I already have the best?

Immediately, he launched several [Torrential Bolts] and reached their target immediately, penetrating their heads, instantly killing them. The number of red dots were decreasing, even though they were 400-550 meters apart from Paolo. Anyone that is hostile according to the map deserves to die, since there's no second chances.

His movements alerted the bandits who were able to regroup near the white dots. Paolo just shrugged after seeing his tactic was quickly exposed.

Probably these people had a life sensor attached to them, so their boss can easily learn if there's an ambush or an attack.

"Who are you? How dare you attack the White Band Bandits!" The leader of the group shouted, his voice filled with anger. Never had he experienced such a situation where he had to cower behind the bodies of his subordinates.

"What a pity, I only got 15 of them." a voice resounded, causing those present to hear the sadness deep within the words. It was still sunset yet the bandits felt cold, very very cold.

This raised their vigilance against their unknown a.s.sailant. After a few moments, a silhouette could be seen from the distance. What made it worse was that every step that the silhouette took, it moved several meters from its previous location, giving the viewers a sense of trepidation.

Practically everyone in Oz knows about Espers, and their betrayal to the crown. It was practically ingrained to them since childhood to hate them and fear them. However, not all of them subscribed to the same belief.

Take for example, the hostages this time. Rather than show fear or anger, what they expressed with their eyes were joy and relief.

"Wh-why is there an esper here?!" The members of the bandit group cursed out.

They felt that their luck today was quite rotten to the point an esper would decide to intervene into their affairs.

"Oh, it seems my ident.i.ty isn't new to you all. I'm really just pa.s.sing by, but then I glimpsed this situation a kilometer away." Alexander muttered.

"Anyhow, shall we begin your punishment? You all have been very, very bad." Alexander said chillingly, his face showing a hint of a smile.
