In my few years on planet earth, and in my journey to success in life, I have enjoyed the wisdom and guidance of great mentors, advisors and leaders. No wonder, I have not s.h.i.+pwrecked in the ocean of life's challenges.

I have related with some of these mentors in persons, while others through prints, tapes, email, and other electronic media. However, irrespective of the medium I have used or still using to interact with these great minds, I must confess that I have been able to see life from a broader and better perspective. Success has been coming to me with relative ease. In fact, the insights received from them have put me way ahead most of my contemporaries who are not privileged to have this great relations.h.i.+p.

If you have been in a good mentor-protégé relations.h.i.+p, you will attest to the fact that I am not exaggerating. Indeed, it's one of those relations.h.i.+ps that anyone who wants to succeed in all ramifications of life, must seek to have. Suffice it to say that this is one of the reasons football clubs, be it in the premiers.h.i.+p, or in the local league, pay their coaches well; so they could bring out the best in the players.

Before I forget, I must let you know that your mentor or coach is not your friend. He is just what you called him; Mentor, period. He can sometimes advise or instruct you to do something(s) that seemingly sounds illogical (this is common in most mentor-protégé relations.h.i.+ps).

Obey the advice, and you will definitely reap the benefits as you go along the way; disobey them because you couldn't rationalise the thoughts, and be ready to face the 'music', which only you will dance to.

This brings me to what one of my great mentors instructed me to do some time ago. Though it sounded foolish initially, but because I knew the rule guiding the relations.h.i.+p, I obeyed. And the lesson I learnt has produced businesses as well as better income and lifestyle for me. Sharing some of the lessons is the essence of this great book you are reading.
