I gulped down my nerves as I fiddled with my Albert Chain.

Leinard heaved a deep sigh as he took a seat at one of the lounges and gestured for me to sit on the lounge opposite.

I eased into the seat, so we both faced each other. My heart beats were beyond stupid and crazy with persistent urges to be by his side. I held my place; kept a poker face and cool mind as much as possible. I felt certain Leinard was looking at me with business in mind and nothing more.

"Firstly, thank you. I can not express how grateful I am for what you did for us and the Labyrinth." Leinard cordially bowed his head to me.

"Colonel! No, it's the least I could've done." I awkwardly acknowledged his thanks.

"I need to ask you. When we were in the Primary Core..." Leinard paused, pressing his lips together as he searched for the rest of the words. "How did you break me from the ego links?"

I blushed as the memories of being Charlese flooded my mind. He had no recollection of this?

Leinard frowned. "You've done something to your mind. I can't read into it."

"What?!" I blurted, a bit annoyed and on the defence. "Why does everyone want to see into my b.l.o.o.d.y mind?! Am I a fricken crystal ball?!"

I gasped and reigned in my outburst with an apologise. "Sorry."

"No. You have every right to apologise. We've been taking you too lightly."

I felt uncomfortable by his words, especially about having been taken lightly. I couldn't help feel nervous about what he felt for me now, and with the Power of Null within me.

_"I may not be able to delve further into your mind. I sense your apprehension from your body signs."_ Leinard spoke in my mind, his voice soothing my tension.

He sat more upright, so his grey eyes could bore into mine.

_"Forget about it. You don't need to answer. Breaking me out of them is enough for me. I want you to know. No matter what happens, I am always on your side. You have my unconditional support."_ His voice continued to soothe the tension from my mind.

I sighed, feeling a bliss ease my heart flutters.

"Famine, I li..." Leinard was interrupted by War's untimely intrusion.

"Famisto," War paused when he noticed Leinard. "Did I b.u.t.t into something?"

"No." Leinard answered aloud.

_"Yes"_, he said in his mind at the same time.

I slammed a palm to my forehead with a sigh. "War can mind speak too."

_"Oh, right."_ Leinard sighed.

War chuckled. He relayed an instruction he had received from that Grandpa Smithsonian about having a Council to be called soon.

Leinard stood.

"We'll talk again." He flashed me a friendly smile.

I returned his gestures.

Leinard left the drawing room, heading down towards the ground floor. I was left standing next to War.

"What?!" I frowned at War's smug grin.

"Come on yah git!"

I cursed when he pulled me into a head lock and dragged me out of the drawing room towards the second floor this way. We fought on our way up to the balcony. I was finally released from his practice fights when we entered the sleeping quarter's lounge room.

War led me to the door that connected to the way into the library area and its vast walls of books that ran up to the top of the high glossy white ceiling. I saw some of the others gathered around the far-end seating area of dark leather lounges, chairs and low coffee table underneath the balcony that was connected by the two single-sized wrought iron staircases.

Death was playing a familiar melody on the baby grand piano before the stained-gla.s.s window depicting angels and demons.

"Is this c.o.c.ktail hour?" I joked when I approached Death.

Death stopped his playing. "Well, it was just sitting there. So, why not?"

I glanced to the others seated who were dressed the typical knight's uniform of patchwork overcoat and navy-blue suit. I noticed that Trix, Wilfred, Lita and Jensen were missing.

"Where's the others?" I asked Ryoko who was sharpening her koto sword with a block.

"Work,"she answered without looking up. "Saku and I are on late sentry."

"The Admiral asked us to gather you guys here and wait." Saku said, thinking nothing of the order.

I frowned and glanced to Death wondering if he was thinking the same thing.

"So, basically, you're told to hang about with us." I tested Saku and Ryoko.

Neither answered my question.

_"Famisto. It's obvious we're being minded."_ War confirmed in my mind.

I sighed. It was like that.

Death returned to his playing of the piano, keying out a ditty melody. War found some fun in baiting Saku into a judo match on the polished wooden floor.

I sat next to Ryoko who was still focused on sharpening her sword.
