Chapter 15: Bad News

A day before, the Navy captured the Leader of the Red Feather Pirates and the rest of the gang. There were 55 pirates captured some found in-land the rest off-sh.o.r.e, and 26 pirates died during their resistance. Their s.h.i.+p which was found 50km from the harbor and their weapons such as guns and knives were all confiscated. Unfortunately, a lot of people died during the fight between the pirates and the Navy.

The young man, Dylan is wearing a black uniform. He is looking at the mourning ceremony held in the middle of the City Plaza. He felt guilty because he is partly responsible for the death of those Civilians.

Once more he remembered his speech in the Elite Camp graduation.

'I, Dylan of the World Navy! Promise to bring peace to the land and carry the burdens of the sea.'

Watching the people in the plaza as they cry and mourn made Dylan's heart tighten. He thought to himself, "Is this my promise? I was not even able to save those people. Where is the peace I promised? I can only see grieving in what I have done."

He did not voice out what he said but it is evident in his eyes which is serious and is holding guilt. His subordinates saw this and tried to talk to him but he just replied with grat.i.tude and a smile.

After returning to his office, he sat on his chair and leaned backward. He looked at the ceiling letting his mind wander as he rests.

Knock, knock, knock.

He heard the door being knocked which snapped him back from being in a daze. He looked at the door and properly sat on his chair. Lastly, he responded with, "Come in."

The door opened and a man with a large build came in wearing a blue uniform. On his sleeves is the designed symbol that indicates the wearers. On it is 3 bars stacked on top of each other and a triangle on top. It is the mark of a Captain.

The Dylan saw the Captain and stood up then saluted. The captain smiled and said, "Carry on."

The captain strolled silently towards the table and sat on a chair. Then he looked at the young officer and smiled.

"Are you not going to serve me a coffee?"

Dylan heard it and nodded, he walked outside and returned with a coffee in hand.

"I am sorry Captain, it has been a while since you visited."

"Yes, I know. Are you not familiar with current rank right? It has been 3 months since you became an Ensign. To my surprise, you were a.s.signed here not from a promotion but a demotion that time."

Dylan just smiled as he heard the Captain. He knows that the Captain means no ill and just remembered his embarra.s.sing past.

The captain looked at the wall near the door and saw a rope on the wall which is hanging by a nail.

"It seems that you are still using the rope."

"No, I do not."

The Captain looked at the smiling Dylan and said, "Hey Kid, do not lie to me. I know you are still the same one who got lost in this Building! And also I just saw you use it before you go into your room!"

Dylan was embarra.s.sed. He uses the rope to find the right way to his room. Since he has no sense of direction this is the right way to avoid getting lost. The rope acts as the trail to where he should go. The other end is tied into his room and the other end and is carried by him all around.

"Thank you, captain."

"No need."

Dylan remembered that the first time he was a.s.signed to the East Bay City Headquarters, he got lost. It was the Captain who saved him that time and also the one who recommended the use of a rope.

"So, let's get back to business."

The captain took a sip from his cup and looked at Dylan.

"I have good news and bad news, what do you want to go first?"

Dylan looked at the Captain seriously and said, "Bad news."

Dylan is the kind of man who would like to hear what is bad first to make amends. So he chose to hear the bad news first also not to spoil the good news.

"Figures. Dylan, there is two news for that, first, it is about your latest case and next, it is about the Red Feather Pirates."

The captain narrated what happened and the news to Dylan. The latest case Dylan handle was somehow messy. All in all, there are lots of infrastructures destroyed during the fight and Dylan is held accountable to that. The cost would be deducted from the Credits Dylan has or it would become demerits.

"Wait, I only destroyed 2 buildings. Where did the 4th come from."

"No, it really was 5, counting all of the infrastructures destroyed even the ones caused by Lusha. Do you remember destroying any tower?"

Actually, the 2 other structures that were destroyed when Dylan played defensive, shouldn't be counted because it was not his fault. It was Lusha who destroyed them.

Dylan remembered a tower he used as a footstool to forcefully reverse his direction. But he was dissatisfied as it was already obsolete and no one uses it. It was a building in the Ghost town.

"They are stingy."

"Yes, I know. They should actually be thankful because the area should have been already demolished but now they are even seeking for compensation from the Navy."

Both of the Naval officers commented on the City officials' action.

Dylan changed the topis and said, "What's the other bad news?"

The Captain turned serious and said, "Lusha and his crews were killed inside the HQ before we can even interrogate them. I'm afraid there is a large ent.i.ty behind this. Especially you are involved so be careful."

Hearing this Dylan was stunned. Aren't they held inside the HQ? Know one noticed the killer? he thought.

Dylan remembered the noisy girl and said, "How about the girl?"

The Captain did not show any negative expression and just said, "She is being confined. Actually, I was there when she was about to be abducted. I think it was the same intruder who killed the Red Feathers and who tried to take that girl."

Outside, a man whose arm is bleeding rested on the mountain near the HQ. He is the one who wore white Garments and the one who witnessed and knows how Lusha was defeated.

"Bad luck. Tsk... Interesting, is that man really a Reigon? if he was then why is he working in the navy here?... I should report this to the Master."

The man remembered Dylan as he defeated Lusha and saved his subordinates almost simultaneously. His power seemed to be slightly similar to the power the Captain stopped him from completing his plan today. The Captain is someone who holds the powerful name Reigon and surely someone who inherited its bloodline.
