First Story - Let Me Listen to Your Lingering Regrets Part 5.1
Taking control of the ball from the midfield, he magnificently broke through two people's defenses from the opposing team. Then he pa.s.sed the ball to his team's forward who has been on the attacking stance. Afterwards, he received it back swiftly, positioned himself accordingly and directly aimed for the goal. The opponent's goalie could do nothing but watch the ball's trajectory.
Goal!
That makes it his third goal.
"Yuji's pretty cool, isn't he?"
Watching the game atop the school roof, I heaved a sigh. Even though he just scored a goal, he didn't look the least bit happy. He just silently went back to continue the practice match.
What a cool att.i.tude for a pa.s.sionate play. On one side of the field, a group of girls are huddled together, cheering for him. They must be members of his fanclub.
Suddenly, he looked up from the field.
"Man, he's so young compared to me." Senpai uttered. I decided not to humor him a response and instead straightened my fluttering hair in the wind.
"Being surrounded by so many girls, Yuji can practically take his pick. I wonder if he ever felt something for s.h.i.+on."
"s.h.i.+on did say they got along well, didn't she. Her case is a bit different. What's important is to know if s.h.i.+on is special to Yuji."
"Good point." I nodded in agreement. s.h.i.+on mentioned that the three of them were on good terms. There's a high chance.
The opposing team received a foul and Yuji's team gained a free kick. He wasn't fazed by the wall made by the opponent and directly aimed for the goal.
The ball slightly missed the goal, but it was an amazing, bullet-like shot.
“Nice play!"
Senpai groaned. "But… he played without hesitation."
"He's a great player! No doubt he's popular."
"That's not what I mean." He shook his head. “But, I don't like him.”
"Senpai, are you possibly jealous?"
"Why should I be jealous of a kid? After all, I have the charm of an adult. It's that charming masculinity that goes with age."
"Aren't you already an old man? Just how old are you?"
"I'm still young." He said dejectedly.
"It's taboo to talk about age, right?"
The sound of a whistle rang, and someone who looked like the coach announced the end of the match. Looking at the time, it was already around 6 pm. The twilight sky is slowly transitioning into the blue night.
"This might be bad news for s.h.i.+on." Senpai muttered to himself.
"What do you mean?" I asked curiously.
"I said he played without hesitation, didn't I? It's only been one month since s.h.i.+on died. If the girl he had feelings for died, how can he play with such composure?”
I was momentarily speechless. That was true.
"But well, that's just my conjecture. Like you said, he might just be a great player. And he could be focusing on soccer in order to forget s.h.i.+on. It's too early to say. Now then, how about we get in touch with him?"
"Okay…" I answered with my chest bursting with worry.
