You become very suspicious.
"Are you sure, uncle George? That is a lot of money."
George smiles.
It is a lot of money, but he has a good feeling about this movie. Your little demo has not only show him that you have a good grasp of cinematography, it also give him an indication of your hardwork and dedication. The music matches the scene very nice, nearly putting him on the edge of his seat as he watches the footage.
He doubts that he could do any better with the limited resource you currently have at your disposal.
Of course, George doesn't know that you has cheated a little. Your power allows you to know which emotion you want to convey in the footage through music.
"I thought you would be excited, knowing that you will be able to direct this movie?"
You nod. "I am. I am. I'm just a bit curious that's all. My mum didn't put you up to this, did she?"
The elephant is out, and George chokes on his tea at your accusation. It was spot on. He immediately recalls the conversation he has with your mother. That was a couple of days before.
He didn't tell you about it, however.
"Why don't we have dinner? I'm sure you are starving."
George offers. You have no reason to refuse. It has been a very long time since you sit down and have dinner with him. As he has changed the subject, you didn't bother to pursuit. Instead, you talk to him about other things, such as filming techniques.
You also take a peek at his skillsets as he sits across you at the dinner table. The table blocks half of the body, otherwise, you wouldn't be so bold.
You eventually bid George farewell and ready to be on your way.
"Lucasfilm will handles the production and distribution. You don't need to worry about that. All you need to worry about is the casting and directing the movie. As for the filming crew, I afraid, I cannot help you with that."
George tells you when you are at the door. A film crew is very important, and you have some idea of whom should be on your team.
"You're not going tell whether my mother has a hand in this or not, aren't you?"
"I think you already know the answer to that. You are a smart young man. Your mother loves you very much, and even though she does not believe in your dream, she still wants you to succeed. Or fail."
George pauses for a moment. "In any case, you are not the one who has the most to lose in this."
You understand his word very clearly.
It is not George Lucas that has invested in your movie. It is your mother. As she doesn't have 10 milions dollar on hand, she must have put up the house up as collateral. Maybe her company as well.
It is a very high stake. Your mother will lose everything if your movie failed.
You know that you cannot fail.
With that in mind, you left his manor and returning home. You ponder if you should confront your mother about this.
As you head home, several powerful figures are talking about your screenplay in a large office. They are ones who has absolute controls of Warner Bros.
"I think this script has certain operability."
The one who had spoken this was Jim Robinson. He is someone you had talk to before. He had given you the time when you approached him. He is interested in your screenplay. He was even willing to buy it off you for a thousand bucks.
Unfortunately, your strong desire to direct it yourself has cause the deal to fall through.
"If you focus on the actions and the pa.s.sengers' fear, it will be a very thrilling movie. Not to mention profitable."
"Jim." Barry Meyer raises his hand to stop Jim from talking further.
He then looks at the man next to him. "What about you? What do you think about the script?"
The man thought seriously with his palm rests on his chin. "Let's look at it like this. He has been abandoned by the CAA. You know what that mean. Besides, it is never wise to spend a millions of dollar in a screenplay from a person without any experience or qualification."
Having said that, the man specifically emphasized. "Also, do not forget. He also ask for the position of the director! Such audaucity! Who does he thinks he is? For someone like that, I wouldn't give it a second thought."
The remark is directed at Jim Robinson. Jim didn't have anything to say as the head of the company has already made their decision. Arguing over this matter will only put him at a disadvantage.
"I see." CEO Barry considers it for a few minutes. The screenplay has only brought to his attention thanked to Jim Robinson, the head of editorial department. However, other than it being cheaper to produce, it doesn't have anything that stands out amongst the countless scripts being handed in every day.
Whlie he wants to dimiss it completely, he has to consider Jim in mind as well.
"Buy the copyright for a couple of hundreds and put this script in the archive. In a few years time, we can produce it cheaply ourselfves."
