Kaldrek had been startled when Zylvia had asked him that question. He was not exactly surprised about her asking, just the timing was a little, well, he had not been expecting it right then.

When he had opened his mouth to try to answer her he had no idea what he was going to say. He knew what he wanted to say, but that word always refused to leave his lips.

It occurred to him that he could have just simply nodded or tried to say yes. Mentally, he started berating himself. Zylvia deserved to know how he felt. He was sure it was eating at her, not knowing.

He glanced at his lady out of the corner of his eye. She was smiling, looking for all the world to see, as if she was really happy. However, he noticed that there was a lingering look of disappointment on her face, especially in her eyes. It made him feel somewhat uncomfortable knowing that he was the cause.

After brooding on it for a while, Kaldrek realized that he had been tuning out the conversation. Feeling slightly abashed he pulled his focus on to the people around him. He could always try to figure out his issues later. His friends would probably appreciate it if he paid attention to what they were saying.

"....do you think before we get to meet the child?" Zylvia had her hands clasped and hers eyes looked starry. Kaldrek found himself admiring the look. She seemed to be just about over her disappointment much to his relief.

"Well, I don't actually know for sure..." Fayre frowned, "I do not really know how long I have been pregnant."

"Should probably see a doctor about that," Kaldrek offered.

"Oh? Are you actually paying attention to what is going on?" His best friend laughed goodnaturedly.

"Well I am now, I may have been a bit out of it for a moment though."

"Which is totally normal," Zylvia cheerfully quipped, as she knocked his shoulder with hers gently.

Kaldrek smiled softly as his friends laughed over what his wife had just said. It had been a long time since being laughed at would upset him. He actually found himself somewhat enjoying them getting a kick out of his idiocies.

They continued talking the rest of the afternoon, mostly what would fall into small talk. Kaldrek paid attention to all of it after that.

When Jayesh decided it was time for dinner, Kaldrek offered his lady his arm. When she looped her arm through his, it made him feel rather content, as if she was completing him in some way.

They continued their conversation as they were eating. Admittedly, Kaldrek was getting distracted by watching the love of his life enjoy her food. Quite a bit of that conversation was a blur.

He forced himself to turn away from her, that way he could be more aware of what was going on. He could always admire her when they were alone.

As they talked, Kaldrek suddenly felt a weight on his shoulder. He glanced over and felt his lips curve up just seeing how she looked to be asleep on his shoulder.

He reached up the hand of the arm she was not leaning on and ruffled her hair.

"Your wife seems tired, you should probably go put her to bed." Jayesh gave him a bright grin. Fayre nodded in agreement.

"She has had a tiring day." Kaldrek s.h.i.+fted her into his arms as he carried her away, "Good night."

Arriving at their bedroom he changed her clothes for her, figuring she would not be that upset with him. Afterwards, he lay her on their bed and climbed in beside of her. He made sure they were under their covers, she seemed picky on this.

She stirred and suddenly her hands grabbed his s.h.i.+rt. "Did I fall asleep?"

Kaldrek gazed into those beautiful eyes of hers. "Yeah..."

"I see."

He found himself wanting to kiss her senselesss. To make her know just how much he wanted, nay, needed, her. He placed a gentle kiss on her nose. To think this wonderful woman was his, it was like some wondrous dream.

"Zylv," The serious note in his voice surprised him. She looked up at him with sleepy eyes, "Forgive me. I really am sorry. Give me a bit of time and I will do my best."
