The soldiers of Haradur city quickly stripped the surrendered bandits of their weapons and armors. The bandits had their hands and feet tied, and were tossed to the ground.

By the time that was done, the fire quickly began to die down.

It could not be help, as the amount of oil that the Zefer family was able to procure was limited, even though they tried to get as much as possible.

The bandits who saw this felt tricked! If they had resisted for a bit longer, and waited for the fire to wear out, if they knew the fire would end this quickly, they would have been able to escape! Instead, they are now tied up like wild deers caught by hunters.

Naturally, this enraged many of them, and caused them to curse... which immediately granted them a beating from the soldiers.

...

Now that the battle is over, the citizens finally have the time to grieve.

Almost all of the adult men among them have died. The wives whom have lost their husbands, the mother whom have lost their sons, and the children whom have lost their fathers, cried at their corpses. This depressing mood is likely going to last for a long time to come.

After finding out that the bandits whom had survived were all captured, many of the citizens kept calling for the bandits to be executed.

...

And good for them! The evening of the same day, at the city square under the setting sun, their city's little lord, Seth Zefer, hosted a public execution!

The bandits did not expect, that even after they had surrendered, they would still be killed! This was different from what they were promised!

But no matter how much they cursed or begged, they were not able to change their fates.

Seth had no intentions of keeping the promises he's made to villains. In his view, they are not worth that much.

Even if he keeps them alive, their evil personalities will not change. Even if they do change, that will not erase their crimes, nor would it erase the scars they've left behind on their victims.

There were too many bandits for them all to be executed one by one in one evening. Thus, Seth had arranged for the bandits to get executed 10 at a time.

The soldiers would bring the tied-up bandits up a wooden platform, and then force them to their knees. Like that, the 10 bandits sitting in a row, can get a good view of the hate-filled citizens glaring at them from below.

Then, the citizens would be allowed to come up, 10 at a time, pick up a sword, and stab it into a bandit. Each citizen can stab at one bandit each time they come up. Whether they kill the bandit or not, is up to them. Every time a bandit on the platform died, another one would be brought up to take his place.

The bandits whom died to just one stab were lucky. Those who were unlucky enough to get stabbed several times before they died, suffered the most. Due to the fact that the large majority of the city's survivors are females with weak arms, the latter scenario was the one that happened the most.

Oddly enough, there was one bandit who was neither cursing nor begging. Instead, he was crying out for his dog...

The number of bandits put up for execution totaled more than the number of citizens whom had survived. Thus, after every citizen had gotten to go on-stage once to stabbed a bandit, the cycle restarted, and any citizens whom were still dissatisfied, could go up again! This would happen until all the bandits died.

Watching such a fun event from a position where he could view it all, Seth was all smiles.

...

That night, after Seth had gotten home, still covered in dust, Nala pulled him into a bath. Seth tried to get the little girl to bathe together with him... But unfortunately, he was refused, not because the girl was too embarra.s.sed, but because Seth would make the bathwater dirty...

Speaking of Nala, after she had exited her combat state earlier today after the bandits had all ran away, she freaked out.

She could not believe that she was the one who caused all those bent, flattened, and distorted corpses in the city square. She immediately ran to her mother to hug her and hide her eyes away from those traumatizing sights.

Compared to when she was carrying out an emotionless slaughter, this timid version of her was like a completely different person.

...

The next day, loud rumbling sounds came from outside the city walls. The sleepy soldiers whom were stationed to patrol the walls were jolted awake by the sound.

They saw puffs of blacks smoke rising up into the air, and dust being sent up from a row of large vehicles that look to be entirely made of metal. They are like metal boxes with cannons sticking out of their fronts. They travel as fast as galloping horses, despite being far heavier than them. They are tanks.

Around the tanks are other metal cars, except that these cars were not built with weapons attached, but instead, seemed to have been built just to carry the men riding in them. They are jeeps, shaped like trucks, but smaller and better-looking.

These are the reinforcements that were sent from the immortal city that Haradur city is subordinate to, having come with enough force to decimate a large bandit gang.

...

After the azure clothed men drove into the city, they were surprised that there wasn't any battle going on. Everything laid in ruins, but there are still people moving about, although those people are just women and children. It seems that they've arrived too late?

The bandits have probably already pillaged this place and stolen all the valuables. It looks like this city won't be able to offer much in taxes this year. ...These were their thoughts as they traveled through the city.

Just as surprising was the man who had come to receive them, Merab Zefer, the current city lord of Haradur city.

Last year, they used to receive taxes from all 3 of the major families that were ruling this city. After learning that Merab Zefer had taken over this city more than a month ago, they knew that this year, they would receive all those taxes from him.

But when they saw that this city had been turned to ruins, they thought that this man would probably be dead, or long gone, having escaped with his life. Unexpectedly, he is here now. Did he come back after the pillage?

It didn't look like it. Merab Zefer appeared to be badly injured, but at the same time, he also looked quite vigorous.

Both sides sat down and had a discussion. They spoke of various things, including what had happened with the bandits, how much damage was done to the city, how much money was used up or stolen, et cetera.

Everything would have gone fine if it was not for the overseer who didn't do anything but watch during the entire battle with the bandits, suddenly popping up during the discussion and yapping off his mouth.

He told his friends from the immortal city, everything that Merab Zefer did not want them to know, including the fact that the Zefer family's soldiers had use martial skills, and that 2 of the children of the Zefer family had used magic!

...

BAM!

In the largest hall on the first floor of the Zefer family mansion, the leader of the Bandit Subjugation Force sent out by that immortal city, was slammed against a wall by a large hand made out of marble sand.

"How dare you! Do you want to die!?" The overseer of the city shouted. He drew out his sword and pointed it at the culprit who sent his superior slamming against wall.

Holding his hand out, gripping at the air in the direction of the hand of sand, Seth sneered. "Speak for yourself. You people say I broke the laws by using magic? I don't recall there being any such laws. The transcendent cities only ever specified the requirements to build each level of city, and not any restrictions on what the residents of a city can or can not cultivate!"

"Transcendent cities?" The overseer was dumbfounded. What Seth had said aligned with what he knew, except, as far as he knows, weren't those specifics pa.s.sed down from the celestial cities? What are transcendent cities? "You're speaking nonsense! Anything that the rulers of an immortal city says, you mere serfs in your mortal cities must obey!"

At this moment, the subjugation force leader tore himself out of the marble sand hand with brute force. He yelled, "Impudent brat!", before charging at Seth with the intent to kill!

Seth frowned, and then sighed. "I still haven't recovered much of my magic energy after yesterday's battle. That makes my spells look so brittle."

Unlike what occurs in games, magic energy does not automatically recover. A magic cultivator is required to sit down and cultivate to restore his magic energy. Raising your level just makes it slightly easier to restore. There is also the option to use certain elixirs made to recover magic energy.

Seth prepared himself to dodge.

But it turned out he did not need to.

Before the subjugation force leader's fist could reach Seth, another hand reached out and blocked it. The loud impact of a fist striking against a palm sounded out within the hall.

Merab Zefer was pushed back, but not by much. His shoes only skid backwards a few feet before stopping.

"1st level escaping fatality!" The subjugation force leader shouted. He never expected the leader of this mere mortal city to suddenly break through to the 3rd stage.

Although the subjugation force leader is a shorter and thinner person than Merab Zefer, he is still a martial cultivator at the 3rd level of the escaping fatality stage. To be able to stop him, the strength of this Merab Zefer must not be much lower than his own.

The subjugation force leader then bellowed, "Are you rebelling!?".

Merab Zefer frowned. He had no desire at all to fight against a ruling force of an immortal city. There wouldn't be any chance to win!

However, before Merab Zefer could say anything, Seth grinned and gave an answer. "He isn't, but I am!"

His hand took the shape of a knife and stabbed at the subjugation force leader's abdomen.

The subjugation force leader reflexively back away, but he was still one step too slow. Seth's hand stabbed through his abdominal armor and into his flesh. It didn't go all the way through, but as Seth sliced up with his hand, it was as if a saber had cut into the subjugation force leader's chest from bottom to top! Blood immediately flew out!

"b.a.s.t.a.r.d, I'll kill you!" The subjugation force leader roared.

"I'll kill you first!" Seth yelled, as he rushed after his foe. The other men dressed in azure have also started to move, preparing to attack Seth with their leader.

Suddenly, Seth felt a tug at his back as he was lifted up by the scruff of his s.h.i.+rt.

There was a deep frown on Merab Zefer's face as he lifted up his son with one hand. He could feel that things are going really bad. Maybe he should just turn over his son to avert the coming disaster?

Meanwhile, Seth was sending a telepathic message to his kitty Gelard, who was lazing in his room. "Take Nala and Irene and get out of here. We are fleeing this city!"

"We're fleeing again? Kitty will pack his bags." Apparently, Gelard is already quite used to this. He started retrieving all the recreational things that he had hidden under Seth's bed, while also pulling out from his pouch, a large sack that a pair of human children can be stuffed into...

The subjugation force leader was glaring murderously at Seth, who was being held back by Merab Zefer. "I won't forgive you! Men, kill off everyone in this mansion!"

Just as the other men dressed in azure were about to carry out those orders...

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

A door leading to the hall opened, and in walked an old man who appears to be about 55 years old. "...Am I disturbing something?"

"Old man Liao? What are you doing here?" Seth asked, immediately recognizing the doctor of the best clinic in the city.

"Elder Liao of the Savant Snake Alchemic School!" The subjugation force leader shouted. It seems that he too, recognized the sudden intruder.

"Elder Vetam of the Azure Reaper Martial School? What are you doing here? Forget it. I don't care." Old doctor Liao waved away and disregarded the subjugation force leader named Vetam. He then turned to look at Seth with a friendly gaze, not caring at all about Seth being hanged from the scruff of his s.h.i.+rt. "Young Seth, I came here today with an offer for you. Do you want to join my Savant Snake Alchemic School?"

"Yes!" Seth accepted the offer right away.

At least now, it appears that he can avoid going on the run...
