Chapter 5
I should focus on my life rather than on Lie Wei. This was the case. After that day, I didn’t think much about that rainy night. Li Wei dropped an umbrella for me, but I didn’t put his words in my heart. He was teasing me.
The next day, I drew my comic. It showed roast rice cake, grilled brain, roasted leeks, and kebab. I hesitated but finally decided to spend some money to treat myself. I picked the key and went out to buy a barbecue in my coral velvet pajamas.
It was good to live alone. You can do whatever you want without asking for someone’s permission. The location of this building in Li Wei was odd. No one brings delivery here. It takes about half an hour to walk to the nearest barbecue shop. The place is uphill. The path was made of stone steps. One floor of the building made one layer. My comics were unfinished. I stepped on the stone ladder, thinking about my plot.
“Oh!” a voice came from the corner.
An old road lamp hanging on the wire swayed leaving a light and dark shadow alternatively on the ground. There stood a child stand quietly facing the old wall. His shadow like an antique pendulum moved with the lamp. As the street lights shook, he sat on the ground. I am a comic book author who lacked imagination, but I am an author.
When I saw the child, my mind filtered 10,000 ghost stories. I scared myself out of cold sweat. I heard the low screeching sound of the street lamp and made countless mental struggles. Only when I saw the small school emblem tag on his school uniform, my mind settled. It was a student of a nearby elementary school.
My realistic angry local mind took control by forcing me to stop that imaginary train of thoughts. Yes, I have lived in non-human areas for long. I have seen all kinds of non-human beings, but I have never heard them mention things like illusory ghosts.
Control your thoughts.
“Child, what are you doing here? Why don’t you go home? It’s late?”
I took a step closer to him and reached out to pat him. But before I touched his shoulder, he turned his head. A blue-purple face with closed eyes and a dense black color under the eyes. It was no different from the gloomy little ghost in movies. I gasped and stepped back. I missed a step and couldn’t stand still. The lights swayed again, and my eyes swept to the figure behind me.
A woman staring at me!
