At the pathway to the Inor Mountain Ranges, thousands of people a.s.sembled with their swords, waiting to be deemed skilled enough to be a part of the Mystical Blade Sect. A sect renown for raising talented individuals and for their extremely powerful figureheads. The figureheads were the Blademasters, Sword Sages, and Sword Saints. They were the apex of the elite in the entire Continent and few ent.i.ties could hope to contend with them.

For entrants, their ability could grant them one of the 5 situations. The first was to be disqualified for inadequacy and to retake the test in the half decade. The second was to become a Squire Rank by barely meeting the requirements. Those that met requirements obtained Swordsman Rank while those that exceeded the requirements attained Knight Rank. If they were truly exceptional than they would skip Swordwielder Rank and were given the Blademaster Rank. Less than 20 people achieved this result though.

The Mystical Blade Sect has existed for 2500 years and survived the creation and downfall of numerous powerful empires. Many emperors have emptied entire gold mines just to entice Blademasters to join their cause, let alone Sword Sages.

The reason for this is due to their peerless strength. Blademasters had the ability to take on a hundred average warriors by themselves while Sword Sages were known to be able to turn the tide of wars. The exalted Sword Saint however, was capable of taking on entire armies which made it fortunate that they usually remained neutral when it came to politics.

The current Mystical Blade Sect only had 4 Sword Sages and 2 Sword Saints which would be considered its greatest achievement if one of the Sword Sages didn't achieve their position through cronyism.

___

Once again, he was beaten and pummeled and broken and crippled. A pitiful existence that tried to achieve his dream. To become the Sword G.o.d.

What made it so much worse was that he had both the intellect and ability to go far. Before his trauma set in, he could even compete with 2 Sword Sages at the same time. After the incident, his hand trembled when he tried to wield a blade and he could only unleash his true ability when under an unbearable and agonizing rage.

He still remembered the incident like it was yesterday. The hard, scaly monstrosity which his blade was unable to slice no matter what. It didn't even need to deflect a single slash but was able to take it as if it was being attacked by pangs of itching instead of a blade.

Without the ability to defeat the creature with oddly cunning eyes, he was pummeled and beaten in a similar manner to how the bullies in his childhood used to. With broken teeth and swollen face, he would stare up desperately from the streets of the slums and pray to the Sword G.o.d. When he had managed to become a Swordwielder, he did not spare them as adults and embarked on a journey of justice to save those that reminded him of himself.

His first and only true disciple was one such person. She was an orphan in a country ravaged by war but had enough beauty to be noticed. Enslaved by the enemies of her country, she had already matured and was prepared to become a s.e.x slave or sold to a brothel. Both were the same to her as she would be ravaged thoroughly by whatever foul pervert eyed her. She had already lost all hope but made eye contact with an aloof man that seemed to be untarnished by war and l.u.s.t.

The eyes which seemed to have surrendered but still retained a bit of life had fascinated him so he decided to free her. He tried purchasing her at first but the b.a.s.t.a.r.ds wanted to defile her before doing so which caused him to mercilessly bring forth judgement.

He then imparted his knowledge onto her and the two began to travel together. To his surprise, she flourished physically in both ways. She became a country toppling beauty and had the ability of a starting Sword Sage. He then happened upon the incident and became inept. Due to this, he decided not to meet her again as he felt too ashamed. He thought she probably would feel betrayed but she would be able to handle it as she was a formidable person.

After wandering listlessly for a long time, he became disheveled to the point that everyone would think that he came from the slums and was not a Sword Sage of the Mystical Blade Sect. He collapsed on the streets and was helped by a gentle young lady of aristocratic descent. He had taken shelter in their manor for a while. Upon seeing that his benefactor was being troubled and about to be beaten for unjust debts, he went berserk and ma.s.sacred the creditors. Realizing what he had just done, he listened to her family's pleas for him to leave. He had accidentally made their situation worse and he could only look back for a moment to see her firm but sorrowful eyes.

Finally, he returned to the Mystical Blade Sect where he had already been promoted to Sword Sage by his cold-hearted rival the Sword Saintess. Somehow aware of his situation, a female Swordwielder blackmailed him to become her lover and if not, she would use his weakness to ruin the Sword Saintess. The Sword Saintess' interactions with him became cold and tense to the point where they could no longer communicate. He then found out that the forced lover cuckolded him and so he tried to seek justice. His trauma inhibited his ability and the Blademaster who was bedding his "lover" had beaten him until he no longer had the will to live.

Having lost power, people, and the drive to persevere, he decided to end it all.

"System, this synopsis is way too long. How can you call this brief?", Atlas said after receiving the briefing.

"...This should suffice then"

[Quest a.s.signed:

Objective: Hone your Skills through Combat

Reward: 0/70000 Points]

Intrigued by the changes in how Quests worked, Atlas asked, "System, what happened to the Ranked Quests?"

"Only Quests Ranked B+ and above will be distributed from now on so specification of Ranks would be redundant and therefore removed"

Without the System explaining the quirk with the Reward, he could already tell that the Reward given corresponded with the completion rate of the Quest. Excited to hone his skills through combat, he wanted to find some challenging foes. However, he knew at the moment he would be unable.

a.s.sessing his new vessel, he felt emaciated and even broken as both hands were completely crushed. Angered at the fact that he had to deal with another impaired ident.i.ty, he swore to destroy the d.a.m.ned couple that dared provoke him. Not willing to wait months, he decided to use the System.

[Vitality B+ Upgraded to Vitality (-7500)]

Through the usage of Blood Manipulation, Vitality , and Minor Healing, the broken body was completely repaired in less than a week.

Finally stepping out of the cave, he inhaled deeply before starting the search for the two scheming adulterers.

Before he could do so though, two Sect members blocked his way.

"We finally found you, Sword Sage Guren. How could you disregard your disciple?", the older of the two said in an accusatory tone that revealed he only wanted to demean Guren with the disciple as an excuse.

"Exactly, you don't deserve the Sword Sage Rank. As you have not given me any pointers, don't you think you should demote your Rank?", the supposed disciple demanded.

He had a disciple? Wasn't his only disciple that girl?

He then understood that it must've been a rule enforced by the sect and grimaced.

A disciple this arrogant towards their teacher should be eliminated immediately.

Remembering his Quest, Atlas' lips curved upward into a wide grin. He then took out the Sharp Knife and began to taunt them.

"For people like you, I only need a kitchen knife to win"

Their two faces immediately darkened upon hearing that. As users of the sword, they doubted that anyone would remain calm upon hearing that kind of provocation.

The Sword Sage had already intended on humiliating Guren so he then shouted, "Unlike you, I'm an actual Sword Sage" before aiming to wound Guren.
