(Morgana's POV)
"Where are we going?"
"I don't know. My lord said we can go anywhere we like." I answered Karla's question as we walked down the hall. There were paintings on the ceiling, statues on every turn, and gold ornamentals everywhere. To be honest, it's my first time being on Asgard as well.
"Finn said don't call him 'My lord'."
"Be quiet. It's okay as long as he's not around."
Karla made a face that says she doesn't agree but I ignored her.
"I follow My lord and call his name in front of him, but I would not do so if he's not around. It is hard to call the name of the one you respected and followed all your life, which also happens to be your Master. Me calling him 'My lord' whenever he's not around isn't disobedience; it is out of respect and admiration for his glorious being..." I started blabbering that I failed to notice Karla wasn't even listening anymore.
We walked on for another ten minutes before seeing a pa.s.sageway out. As soon as we saw the sun outside, Karla made a break for it. She was saying that she was getting bored with the decorations inside the palace as she flew out.
I agreed with her. There was nothing fun seeing the repeated glorification of Odin and his family. Something about conquering the nine realms and bringing peace. Isn't that just colonization? They call it 'peace' when My lord and Odin just did the same thing. Hypocrites.
As I came closer to the outside, I started to hear faint grunts and battle cries. I already have a guess in mind.
"It's a training ground?"
Sure enough, what Karla said was true. The pa.s.sageway led us both to what seems like a training ground for the Einherjar. We watched as they exchanged blows and pointers. It shows that they are quite trained and coordinated, but also...
"They are so weak..." Karla disappointedly rested her chin on her hands.
It was also true. They may have Asgardian physique that made them stronger, faster, and more durable than your average soldier, but that's it. I can't see anything special about them that can compete with My lord's army of enhanced undead.
"Be careful with your mouth, little girl." A woman wearing armor suddenly appeared out of nowhere. She had a proud expression as she spoke to Karla.
"But it's true though?" Karla tilted her head in confusion. This girl always speaks out whatever's on her mind.
"All of these men are warriors hailed as the strongest in their worlds. They died protecting their loved ones, home country, and the rest of their beloved things. Additionally, they are further strengthened here in Asgard. Tell me, is that your definition of weak?" The warrior woman was noticeably agitated. She was starting to get p.i.s.sed.
"Karla, that's enough. Don't cause unnecessary trouble for My lord." I stopped Karla as she was starting to answer back as well.
"But I am just saying the truth..." Karla said in dissatisfaction.
Well, if the warrior woman was the one that initiated the squabble, I would tell her to not back down as it is a shame to My lord. However, Karla is in the wrong this time despite saying what's on her mind.
As I and Karla turned to leave, the warrior woman suddenly spoke. "Little girl. How about I teach you what's weak and what's strong?"
Karla halted her steps.
"Lady Sif is fighting..."
"Who's fighting Lady Sif? That little girl?"
"By Odin's beard… Are you serious?"
The Einherjar who stopped training chattered nonstop. From them, I realized that the warrior woman's name is Lady Sif. She was supposedly a comrade of Thor who went on many adventures with him. Sif was one of the finest warriors of Asgard, or so I've heard.
"Miss, do you really want to fight me?" Karla said in a slightly mocking but polite tone.
"Yes, of course. Get ready." Sif pulled out a training sword from her waist. "I'll teach you some manners so you learn to respect others."
As her words resounded, she dashed towards Karla. It only took her no more than a second to close the 10-meters distance between them. Her sword blurred as she mercilessly brought it down aiming for Karla's head.
I think Karla didn't expect her speed at all as she was fl.u.s.tered for a moment, before she crossed her arms to protect her head. She might be thinking that she can block it because it was just a weak weapon. That is a wrong judgment.
Just as I thought, the sword attack from Sif is just a feint. Instead, Sif went for the unguarded left leg of Karla. Her balance was disrupted. And as a result, she fell on her back.
The Einherjar cheered for Sif as she leaned the sword to her shoulder.
"First rule of the battle: Never underestimate your opponent." Sif offered her other free hand to Karla. "Get up."
Karla took it and dusted her bottom. Her playing face was gone, replaced with a serious one. Although Karla is just a little girl, she still has a sense of humiliation. I think she didn't like the fact that the Einherjar cheered for Sif.
For the next few minutes, that scene repeatedly occurred. Sif would always expose and attack Karla's blindspots. After that, she would exploit Karla's weaknesses and point it out to her. Karla would get knocked down, she would be helped by Sif, they would continue, and then she would get knocked down again.
Being a little girl, you would expect Karla to explode by now. However, it was the opposite. With the crowd against her favor and her opponent having much more fighting experience than her, Karla was instead fired up. Her eyes birthed fire as her resolve to knock down Sif intensified.
Their fight continued, and Karla's blindspots and weak points became fewer and fewer. This is my intention as to why I didn't stop them from fighting.
Karla is like a water tank full of water. The water represents her power; which, right now, is overflowing. She got her powers without working hard for it. That's why she doesn't have any knowledge as to where to put that strength efficiently. In short, she's like a water tank full of holes. She could easily get exploited by people with a better experience.
In order to seal up that hole, she needs to learn how to control her strength property. My lord and I have been worrying about this fact for so long. He cannot teach her because he said he's not that knowledgeable about close-combat fighting, neither am I. We're mages, after all; we use magic to fight.
Intentionally or not, that warrior Sif started to teach her about the basics. She said it was to show Karla how wrong she was, but I think that's not the only reason. I don't know her real reason behind her actions, but as long as it benefits us, I would allow it with open arms.
