Chapter 572: Whose Son Is He?
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
The elderly also needed attention.
As children grew up, they would have their own matters to attend to. Filial piety seemed to have become a responsibility whether they like it or not. Very few people would really care about the likes and dislikes of the elderly… Although Grandma Bai was well-taken care of by Nanny Li, she was not much different from the other old people.
She was lonely and needed company.
As well as the attention of her family.
It was only a piece of tofu and Grandma Bai now adored Xiang Wan.
She looked at Xiang Wan, again and again. “I need to remember this la.s.s. I mustn’t forget you.”
“It’s okay to forget me!” Xiang Wan smiled at her with a wink.
“Why?” Grandma Bai felt amused.
“So that everytime when I come back, you will be happy because your grandson has gotten a girlfriend!”
“Hahahaha…”
Grandma Bai laughed in joy.
Xiang Wan on the other hand, happened to catch a glimpse of Bai Muxuan’s expression.
Maybe her words came in contact with a soft spot of his, for he actually looked over.
“Am I right to say that, Grandma? Everytime I introduce myself, you will be happy once again. Moreover, you seemed to be really glad. It’s simply because it’s the first time!”
“Yes, yes, yes! I’m really happy!”
The corners of Bai Muxuan’s lips lifted upwards, he looked down slowly and even his eyes were smiling.
Bai Muchuan also noticed that and looked at Xiang Wan with appreciation. “Teacher Xiang, you’re really observant.”
For a woman that he was in love with, of course she would be pleasing in his eyes.
In front of so many people, he was generous in his praise.
Xiang Wan blinked to indicate that she accepted his praise…
Thud! Bai Lu was suddenly unhappy.
She slammed her mug on the table so heavily that some of the beverage inside the mug splattered outside.
Everyone looked over at her.
“I’m full.”
She got up, and walked away.
“Bai Lu!”
Bai Musi called her name.
“What?” The young girl was fuming.
“I should be the one to ask you that.” Bai Musi was not in a good mood recently. She felt a splitting headache whenever her daughter threw a tantrum. “Finish the food in your bowl.”
“I can’t eat anymore. I’m already full of anger!” Bai Lu refused to comply.
“It’s the Reunion Dinner, you have to sit back down even if you’re already full.”
“I won’t—” The young girl looked at her mom stubbornly at her spot, refusing to budge.
Both mother and daughter were locked in a standoff.
Grandma Bai decided to step in.
“Which family did this girl come from? If she finds our food here not to her appet.i.te, then just don’t come to eat. Let her go, let her go…”
“…”
This was really an awkward situation!
Which family did this girl come from…
Bai Lu pursed her lips a few times and her tears came out in the next second.
“I’m an extra in this family.”
After shouting that, she had originally wanted to go upstairs. But when no one said anything to keep her, she suddenly ran out of the house…
“This girl is really…” Bai Musi stood up from her seat, also fuming a little, but she felt somewhat guilty to her family. “She’s a wilful child, I’ll go check her out. Please continue without me…”
Before Bai Musi left the dining table, Grandma Bai showed her displeasure.
“She’s no longer young anymore. A teenager is not a kid.”
“…” Bai Musi puffed a sigh. She politely excused herself with her dad, Bai Zhenhua then changed her shoes to look for her daughter.
The number of people at the dining table was thus reduced.
Grandma Bai was lively and couldn’t stop talking to Bai Muchuan. She would also talk to Xiang Wan and Bai Muxuan, whom she mistook as ‘a good-looking grandson from another family’. However, she pretty much ignored Bai Zhenhua and Zhu Xueyan.
Bai Zhenhua stayed quiet while Zhu Xueyan had a lot of pent-up anger.
Due to that, n.o.body was really comfortable in that kind of atmosphere.
After they finished eating their Reunion Dinner, Bai Muchuan helped Grandma Bai back to her bedroom and put her to bed. The world finally felt peaceful.
It was late at night and the environment was tranquil.
The weather was cold like water.
Xiang Wan and Bai Muchuan were still very much wide-awake. They didn’t feel like sleeping at all.
The two of them stood on the balcony on the second floor. They were watching the night sky above the city. Soon, fireworks bloomed in the sky once the clock struck midnight. Both of them were feeling relaxed and calm…
“Are you tired?”
“I’m not tired. It’s New Year now, I’m very happy.”
“Happy New Year.”
“Happy New Year!”
The surroundings were quiet.
The two of them embraced each other on the dark balcony.
It was full of warmth and Xiang Wan felt peaceful.
No one spoke a word.
They stayed like that for warmth and enjoyed the rare quiet in their fast-paced life…
A good while later, Bai Muchuan patted her head gently. “Little Xiang Wan, it’s been tough on you recently.”
Xiang Wan shook her head slightly. “It’s not tough. I like it.”
Bai Muchuan laughed and hugged her tighter. “So do you want to stay with me forever?”
Mm? Forever sounds very mushy.
Xiang Wan chuckled. “Of course.”
Bai Muchuan lifted her chin, his eyes were half-lidded as he looked at the sparkle in hers. His thumb stroked her lips, and he used a bewitching tone to speak. “Once the case is over, let’s have a wedding, shall we?”
Eh?
Xiang Wan was slightly surprised.
“Even if this case is over, there will still be new cases right?” She sounded a little upset. “You’ll always be busy.”
Hur! Bai Muchuan let out a laugh. “And you say you didn’t blame me, it’s not tiring, it’s not tough… See? You do have some complaints.”
He kissed her lips like a chick pecking its food, refusing to let her go… Until Xiang Wan felt that she couldn’t stand it anymore and took the initiative to kiss him, but he was faster and took her lips. Their lips intertwined together and their breath gradually hastened.
“… Little Xiang Wan.”
“Mm?”
“You haven’t agreed?”
“Mm.”
“Come on, say something.”
The man who was waiting somewhat anxiously for an answer, his gaze seemed especially bright.
When Xiang Wan looked at him, her heartbeat started to race.
Sometimes, when one falls in love, even though they have been together for a long time, things still never become dull and boring. She knew that she was very much charmed by him.
“Alright.” They were still looking at each other. Xiang Wan made a pinky promise to him by locking her little finger with his. “Let’s get married.”
Bai Muchuan did not move.
He just looked at her, his gaze gradually became pa.s.sionate.
Xiang Wan’s face started to feel hot when he looked at her like that.
“Why are you looking at me like this? It feels strange!”
Bai Muchuan seemed to gaze at her for a century, when he suddenly pulled her to him and hugged her tightly. He placed her hand on his heart so she could feel his racing heartbeat.
There was a breeze blowing outside…
The two of them were still hugging each other, as if they were one…
Until they heard some intermittent sounds of quarreling coming from downstairs.
“You’re still unwilling to admit it?…
“Illegitimate child…
“That woman… Father… Cheng Weiji…
“You men… just can’t wait to betray your wives…
“I’m about to go crazy… Just give me an answer…
“Is he your son, or Cheng Weiji’s?…”
