But, he was disappointed. He wasn’t able to spot them in days. Themother and daughter were like comets in the sky, a flash, then disappearedwithout a trace.

Even though he wasn’t able to locate them, he wasn’t particularlyworried. He saw clearly the other day that they were with the doctor from theclinic. If he really couldn’t find the mother and daughter, all he had to dowas to go to the clinic and ask the doctor.

That would be the last resort, he didn’t want to just go to theirplace and offend them before he could find out more about their background. Fornow he could only wait for them to show up.

Day after day pa.s.sed and he still hasn’t seen them!

Not only were those at the House of Ning started to get anxious, the innkeeper was also getting anxious. After he had sent over all the mythicalanimals last time, his master had sent his men there in the hope to get intouch with the mother and daughter.

Under the antic.i.p.ations of these two family of people, the Cheng’smother and daughter have yet to reappear, like they have disappeared into thinair.

Two months had pa.s.sed and Old Man Ning was impatient. He didn’twant to miss out on the precious goods. They were very valuable to him. Lookingat the one in front of him, he said, “Ko Yang, was there really no other way tolocate the mother and daughter?”

“Well…” Ko Yang hesitated. He never told his master that thedoctor at the clinic should know where they live.

Old Man Ning frowned, “What’s wrong? Something that you can’tshare?”

“Master, it’s not that I couldn’t share. I just didn’t think thiswill be a good approach!” Ko Yang told Old Man Ning every details along withhis thoughts.

After he had finished listening, Old Man Ning nodded, “I agree, ifwe find out where they live through Doctor Xu, we risk offending them. Afterall, we are the ones with the request. Give it a few more days, if we stilldon’t see them at the marketplace, we will have to go to Doctor Xu.”

Inside the courtyard of the inn, two middle-aged men in poshbrocade gowns stared at the innkeeper in an unfriendly manner. One of them saidin a deep voice, “Innkeeper Zhu, you’ve been working for the family for a longtime now. How could you possibly mess this one up?”

“Deacon Bai, it wasn’t that I didn’t want to ask, it’s the factthat they didn’t want to divulge. They sold me all of their mythical animals, Ican’t possibly interrogate them after that. I don’t want to chase them away!”explained Innkeeper Zhu with a frown on his face.

Before Deacon Bai could respond, the other man next to him saidcoldly, “You didn’t ask them, now they are not showing up. How are you going tofind them again? What are you going to say to the master? I am telling you now,if you don’t figure this one out, you won’t be here for much longer. You canplan on going back to your hometown as a cleaning person!”

“Deacon Lin, this….” Innkeeper Zhu didn’t know what to say.

Deacon Bai patted his shoulder gently and said, “Innkeeper Zhu,you better hope they show up in the next few days. If they don’t show up, we’vegot problems!”

“Deacon Bai, I really don’t know when they will come again!”

“That’s why I said you should pray for them to show up!”

“I…ugh….”

Innkeeper Zhu left the courtyard with his head lowered and feelingdefeated. He was praying for them to show up soon; otherwise, he livelihoodwould be in grave danger.

“Dad, let’s go into the mountain!” requested Cheng Xiao Xiao afterbreakfast.

Cheng Biyuan paused for a second. He knew his daughter wouldn’thave brought that up for no reason, so he replied, “Okay, I’ll go into themountains with you today!”
